@@chukwujames1146 He didn't "lose stand up battles" to Woodley. If it was truly a striking battle then Wonderboy would have most likely picked Woodley apart handily; but the fact is that he had to be much more methodical and limited with his striking in order to avoid a takedown because even when the fight doesn't actually go to the ground, the wrestling element is a massive strategic asset in a fight like that. Saying Wonderboy lost a striking battle to a wrestler is like saying Woodley couldn't outwrestle a karate guy just because he wasn't able to get Wonderboy to the ground and keep him there; if there was no striking allowed, Woodley would have been able to freely pursue and secure the takedown, but those were mma fights, not wrestling or kickboxing.

Coming from the guy who made the same mistake of using a karate style and getting caught whilst his hands were low too. Let's hope that he doesn't make the same mistake again. Whittaker refused to work on his Romero flaws (low hands, exiting in an ultra vulnerable way), let's hope that Wonderboy isn't the same.

@@ChrisDynamo that was not a mistake it was a flaw, if it is a mistake to fight in your own style than everyone would not get the results they do in the ufc.

Adesanya learned how to use his reach sometime between his last fight and this one. He got hit so much by Gastelum and he learned he can't afford to risk taking so much damage, and he genuinely impressed everyone by not being nearly as hittable as he usually is.

Absolutely. I'm a big fan of Whittaker but he had a terrible gameplan going into this fight. I also hope he uses his wrestling next time.

What wrestling? Whittaker averages 0.37 takedowns per 15 minutes of action. Dude only has 4 take down in ufc career.

@hamad dashti IKR! Like props to Izzy i guess, but Gastellum and Robert both decided to just stand and swing away at one of the best strikers in the world. Izzy is not hype train but would be nice to see a UFC champions grappling and ground game. I think Romero could take him if he went into wrestle with Izzy an not stand there an bang.

@@mattno9834 he usually is the one defending takedowns because he fought a bunch of wrestlers and grappling specialists. But his offensive wrestling is also quite good and should be used against a guy like izzy.

What else could he have done? and don't parrot Rob's wrestling like a bunch of other people who know nothing of fighting. Whittaker had a serious reach deficit and had to get close enough to get connect. The genius of Adesanya is that he encouraged Whittaker to do it. Stood well within range to settle Whittaker in.
