Dramatic footage of crowd responding to young Jews protesting Netanyahu for occupation, settlements, loyalty oath etc.. police protect the protestors. www.YoungJewish... www.JewishVoice...
I am SO proud of these young people! Greatly outnumbered, they stand up, one by one, to protest that Judaism is being betrayed by those who most loudly use its name to "justify" their inhumane treatment of the Palestinians, to "justify" the silencing of dissent, to "justify" their adoption of tactics and politics once used against them! It would have been easier - and safer - for them to have protested all at the same time. By doing it one at a time, they showed great courage and integrity.
This makes me so proud to see these people speak truth to power, especially when all the forces are against them as they do it. Dang, I think I'm about to cry here. It is in this spirit, a spirit that I am sure combines the best of wanting to secure a homeland for the Jewish people with a sense of integrated commitment to human rights and needs that builds a sound, substantive policy (and respect) for the state of Israel and its inhabitants. I have no words for how brave these individuals are
This was not an attempt to provide an alternative viewpoint but a deliberate attempt to start an angry confrontation-- as such they illustrated Netanyahu's points far better than anything he said. Having read their statements elsewhere, they're just angry and ill-informed. If the YJP activists were interested in real debate they could be working with J Street or Brit Tzadek v'Shalom: two Jewish organizations attempt to advance an Israeli-Palestinian through thoughtful advocacy.
my hats off to these brave Young Jews. I remember a time when Young Whites in South Africa also took a stand against Apartheid and declared that their freedom is premised on the fact that other South Africans enjoy freedom. and that they were not willing to legitimise injustice. Of the many organisations, the End Conscription Campaign will forever stand out, as these youngsters were starring imprisonment in the face and yet took a stand. It takes a few to move the larger society. STAND FIRM!!!!
What is up with this rude behavior? Why ruin other people's events? Its just ugly behavior. What on earth is accomplished? Just in case you didnt notice, all you did was solidify the crowd against any possible good ideas that you might have brought to the table in a reasonable way. Through your extremist behavior, you cement a wall against you. Why is that not clear to you?
I am utterly floored by the courage of these people. Amazing stand for human rights. They will be remembered as the heroes of this struggle when Apartheid Israel fades into history.
I applaud you...BRAVO " No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots. "
One by one, protesters are attacked by the audience members as they raise their voices and hold up their banners - before the uniformed security officers can get to them. Yet, even though the protesters, exercising their right to free speech, have been assaulted in plain view of security officers -it is the protesters,... and not their assailants, who are taken into custody and arrested. The address is allowed to continue after the crowd has repeatedly turned violent and destructive.
that's a great way to disrupt the people in gov't who delegitimize the enormous number of intelligent, peace loving people who are fed up with the system and ... grat job!
@topchoices You can have an opinion as a responsible human being living on this planet...What do human rights mean for mankind, if nobody is allowed to comment how they are respected or not ?
No matter which side you're on (jews or palestinians) this sort of action is the *enemy* of democracy. People as well as leaders should be allowed to speak without dissenters shouting them down and trying to silence them simply for publicity. ... I say to the Jews that did this, shame on you and I would say the same to Palestinians or any other group if they did the same to their leadership. These tactics should not stand.
What is this so-called "occupation?" Individual Jews & Jewish agencies BOUGHT land in the Holy Land to join other Jews in what was then a rather desolate country. Other land was given to them by the British (who owned it) & later by the UN partition plan. Other areas were won in conflicts & wars that they never even started - or because Arabs fled at the urging of their leaders while Arab countries sought to "drive the Jews into the sea." Well the Arabs lost so now you cry for them as victims?
Many in my family(my husband was) are Jewish. I am so sorry that these problems continue to be faced by people whose greeting is Shalom. Whitenightf3 said it best and I wish good for all. Sometimes feel I have no right to comment as I am not Jewish.
They remind me of the White Rose Society in Nazi Germany, primarily composed of young Germans, they spoke out and carried out civil disobedience against the Nazis. Hopefully this effort will meet with greater success than the White Rosers.
