-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 1 / 3
Is the insightful story of my family's unending ordeal caused by the European Schengen Tourist Visa granted to us in India by the Embassy of Slovakia.
For our holiday in East Europe - due to Appointments just not opening at Hungary, Austria or Czech Republic in the summer of 2022- we ended up applying via Slovakia.
The Slovaks issued a Schengen visa that was exactly from the Date of Arrival to the Date of Departure only- not even a day extra! On top of that, it was "Single Entry"
Also, the world's most unprofessional airline, Wizz Air preponed its flight- now landing 5 minutes before midnight of the day the Schengen visa was starting from!!
On the day of travel, first, we were not allowed by Indigo Airlines to board from New Delhi to Dubai - citing the invalidity of our visa even if for only 5 minutes until midnight.
Then, when somehow we managed to reach Dubai the same day - on Air India flight (fresh spot ticket booked) - we were denied to make transit from Arrival to Departure of Dubai Terminal 2, citing "Wizz Air is among the few airlines that do not allow any Transit passengers & transit baggage"
This was unheard of. The godforsaken unprofessional airline never even intimated us about this strange rule.
We didn't have UAE Transit Visa - hence could not exit Immigration to collect our baggage. Even wasted EUR 90 on "Marhaba Service" On Arrival visa- which is actually only for those India Passport Holders who also have a USA visa stamped - we didn't.
With baggage retrieval clearly out of question, had to reach the Wizz Air boarding gate for Dubai - Budapest flight anyhow, leaving our baggage behind.
Once at the boarding gate somehow, a new, unexpected shocker slammed us. We were again denied boarding by Wizz Air - second time within 12 hours- citing "Schengen Visa is issued by Slovakia. So you must land in Slovakia only. You can not board the Dubai - Budapest (Hungary) flight"
Our counter argument- "Of what use is Schengen Visa for Schengen Euro Zone then? It is determined by the country you are spending most days in during your trip- not the port of entry!"
But the ignorant, arrogant Wizz Air (3rd party payroll) staff heard nothing & didn't let us board.
We spent the entire night- with our 4 year old daughter - requesting transfers between Dubai airport's Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 (without our bags). Pegasus Air officials said the same thing after checking out our visas - "you must land in Bratislava, Slovakia only - no other European city."
Then we thought of changing our holiday travel plan entirely. "Which countries allow Indian Passport holders to come in, without a pre-Visa?"
Thailand, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Russia, Serbia,... SERBIA!!
Serbia is a neighboring country to Hungary - just like Croatia, Austria & Slovakia are. Why not go to Belgrade (capital of Serbia) & then attempt entering Hungary via the land border (bus / train)?
So we booked spot tickets on FlyDubai airways from Dubai to Belgrade for 9am that morning.
FlyDubai staff assured to get our baggage to Belgrade (from Dubai T2) - provided we paid EUR 100 upon landing in Belgrade at the Lost & Found service of the airline counter.
But yet again, we were denied boarding - until we produce return tickets from Serbia to Dubai / New Delhi. So we booked the expensive (cancellable) return tickets as well from Serbia - in spite of the fact that Indian Passport Holders can stay visa-free in Serbia for 30 days straight!
What happens next? Does this never-ending ordeal for the family out on vacation even have a happy travel as per the original itinerary of visiting Budapest, Prague & Vienna?

2 Questions please - 1. Why did you tell indigo that your wizz flight was preponed?? You could have showed your old ticket only of landing on 25th. 2. Suppose indigo had allowed you to board, how were you planning on getting your luggage without uae visa? All these problems could have been solved by just taking a free 48 hour transit visa from before.
@Stories2Tell_
@Stories2Tell_ Год назад
Fair questions, @RG i. We had no inkling that Indigo would not let us board even the Delhi - Dubai flight, basis the time of landing of Dubai - Budapest flight; a difference of 5 mins before Visa start time just seemed inconsequential! ii. You are right, a Dubai transit visa taken a few days prior would've solved everything - but it was said that for less than 8 hours, Visa is not required. Also, there was no communication from Wizz Air that they do not allow baggage or passenger transits even within the Arrival & Departure of the same terminal (i.e. T2 of Dubai Airport in this case) - and one must cross immigration to collect baggage

2 times before also we have traveled to Europe - but after Covid19 - different & strange visa/immigration rules are being applied on travelers from South Asia Schengen entry was not like this before i.e. 1st entry only from the country that issued visa was no rule before. Even now it is actually not there- you will see in Ep. 2/3 & 3/3 of this series how we crossed into Hungary via Serbia through land border - without needing to go only to Slovakia first. So this torture in video 1/3 was the doing of airline officials in Dubai!!

Your third point doesn’t make any sense. If your first point of entry isn’t your main destination, that country won’t even issue you a visa at the first place and will ask you to get the visa from where you’re going to be staying the longest. What wizz airlines did here is bizarre. Lack of knowledge on the part of the official caused an horrible experience to the OP.
@SandeepBhagyawant
@SandeepBhagyawant 10 месяцев назад
@@rahuldwivedi4758 even though the Schengen rules say you can enter anywhere...border control is much easier if it’s the same as visa issuing country. Else the officers start grilling and it can become trouble or a bad experience. It’s fine with heavy traffic airports like Paris Frankfurt but not others, expect a rough ride.

Hello , with multiple entry Schengen visa, if I returned back to home country after week trip and then again, next month visit another country, then for every trip do I need to land in country which issued me a visa? Or is it just first time and in later months, again I can restart from home to visit another Schengen area ? Is this correct

What the wizz airlines(or whatever that name was) did was horrible and bizarre. How can the official not know the basic rule that it’s the country where you stay the longest issues the visa and even if you try to get the visa from the country where you’re entering first, they would have denied with the same reason and asked you to get it from the one where you’re staying the most?So what exactly happened after this? Did you manage to get any refund? Did you pursue?
@Stories2Tell_

They (Wizz Air) finally offered a refund that amounted to only INR 1300/-. I spat it back on their shameless faces.. don't need that. Will never travel with them again - and forever discourage any traveler from doing so!

@@Stories2Tell_ That’s like rubbing salt on wounds. Right decision on your part to not accept such a pity offer. I wish there were an easy way to book such airlines carriers in a court of law and made to be compensated appropriately. Here is my take on this, just read the description. Yu couldn't swing for any other schenghen country, apart from the mentioned list? Really? I have applied for Austrian student Visa, and still know the basic shit that Newly appointed EU countries like Solvenia, Slovakia, Romania etc have the rule that you must enter EU from that country itself. Did you really not know what transit visa is? And who TF books shit flight like Wizz air? Wizz & Ryan Air are know to be cheap flights, and you can carry only 1 carry on baggage, which has to be small. Did this family in all seriousness not do one bit of research? Also, dubai transit visa takes 2 days, and it is available online, it is an e-visa. You really couldnt get that either?

Appreciate you taking time out for a detailed comment to enrich the community😊 But back in April, May 2022 - immediately after the start of Russia Ukraine War & the first summer holidays post the '20 & '21 washout Covid years - there were actually NO vida slots available for any other Schengen countries!! Traveling to East Europe was coming out to be far more expensive than even West Europe (in the context of global happenings of 2022) - Wizz Air offered good budget travel option. But yea, never travel by Wizz Air. But above all, yes, it was a mistake to incorrectly assume no visa would be required to just move from the Arrival section of the same terminal in DXB to Departure of that same terminal in DXB!

All this only because you chose to book Wizz Air. There is no such rule regarding entry point to be the same as visa issuing country. I have traveled multiple times to Schengen area and landed at airports other than those who issued the visa. Low Cost Airlines like Wizz Air, Pegasus etc are notorious for this harassment, especially towards South Asians and I have been reading experiences for years. I don't know how you missed it. Never use low cost airlines for intercontinental travel. Bratislava doesn't even have much international connectivity and most people who travel to Slovakia land in another Schengen country. Most people from India travel to the Schengen area using Air France, KLM or Lufthansa and thus enter through France, the Netherlands or Germany regardless of who issued the visa.
