I watch Liga MX (Mexico) a lot, there’s a lot of fights but referees don’t bother allowing players to calm down, red card if there was intentional grab/punch/kick.

@@ISTSoccer I wish I could be at some of these games, the best we have here in AZ is the Phoenix Rising who are great but not a good local mens league that I've been able to find.

as a former player I really appreciated a referee who would take control early and give out some yellows if things were getting rough and tense. Experienced a lot of matches where things were getting out of hand early and the ref just let it go and think to myself "we are going to have one of those matches tonight".

Yes, I ref the younger kids games (U10) and this does not really occur much if not at all. The biggest issue in this age are the crazy soccer moms...

Exactly. However, media loves to victimize refs and vilify players because every once in a while a ref gets attacked. Don't get me wrong, physically attacking or verbally abusing a ref is never ok. Still, in 20+ years of playing and watching football, I have never seen a Ref get physically attacked. On the other hand, I have seen way too much horrendous refing leading to escalating matches and injuries. Yes, refing at the amateur level is hard, but a few idiots taking it way too far fall back on millions of players just trying to have a good time and playing a decent match.

Yup, it is ridiculous. I managed an indoor soccer facility for 10 years and I saw some crazy stuff. Worst one I saw was when two guys kicked each other in the shin and broke their legs in half. It was gruesome.

i had gotten a red in summer soccer in high school and the guy didn’t have a red card he just told me off the field
