The (male) British Eurosport commentators said they think Scott Moir has the best job in the world, getting to dance with Tessa. I have to say I agree!
I was there tonight and saw it live! It was fantastic! They totally deserved gold, and if Canada hadn't gotten one already (Chan), they would take it. But in the end we see another example of dirty play from ISU
@Haley452 I've been a figure skating fan for 30 years. I've seen programs that when you first watch them, they take your breath away. Fans/insiders remember them for years to come. They become classics, and therefore, masterpieces. Bolero was one of them. When V/M skated Mahler, they created their own Bolero. I can't imagine what you can "hate" about Mahler. It was superbly skated, made difficult look easy and expressed emotions beautifully. D/W execute their programs well but V/M live them.
In watching this exciting skate, I see a more equal distribution of movement and skillset between partner's. I see that it helped Tessa so much, but never took away from the dynamic vision of the couple. In fact, in my amateur eyes it just ramped everything up.
what a delight to watch. such a sublime and wonderful pair on the ice. They are Sexy and Hot and look just the way they move is breathtaking..........a Gold performance really in my opinion. Tessa and Scott........you rock
They are so a golden team , like Tessa's dress ! A complex program with so much personnality in it. I hope they will continue for another year to see them in person in Québec city for the Grand Prix Final :D
I love it... though it felt more like an exhibition piece than a competition piece. The curve lift at 2:50 is AMAAAAAZING!! Olympic Champions and for good reason!
@allapol1 I agree. And this is from someone who adores Meryl and Charlie.... but they just don't give life to their choreography like these two do (they do it with all sorts of themes, too). I am truly happy for Meryl and Charlie because they deserved it. They had more polish. They have to learn to not be so dissociated from the dance, though. When you see these two dance, you believe in whatever they're trying to portray instead of just seeing the choreography.
WTF they are GOLD, davis and white shouldn't think they actually are better than them yet, they need to remember that virtue and moir were out of competition for months, she had a surgery, so they will be back, this was their first competition since surgery so no wonder they beat them, they are still amazing and got silver, but they are GOLD
@allapol1 That is SO true. Davis/White are very good technically, but that's about it. They could never do what Tessa/Scott do. Like one commentator said - you can surely say that these two are a phenomenon on ice. And my God, how HOT were they here?!?! They could melt the ice with eyes alone, never mind the sexy moves :)) I just wish they had more time to refine this program. Oh well... To me it's masterpiece anyway. I hope next year they are back to where they belong - on TOP!
Fascinating to watch this in 2020 and compare this to their 2018 Olympic SD. The Russian style of ice dance is at odds with the Latin dances, especially the rhumba IMHO as an entirely amateur fan.
@librasnob Absolutely, I agree. T/S haven't really been at their 100% for the past 3 seasons, since Tessa had her first surgery in 2008. Even in 2009/10, when they skated a full season, she was in pain the whole time, as per T/S book and interviews. Despite all of this, D/W have had a hard time keeping up. And THAT is a fact, not an excuse.
@SusannahE i guess we should also keep in mind that theyve been out of competition for a year (not counting the four continents competition, of which they had to withdraw from)
Amazing! Pure dance, so much energy - this is what a FD should be. It had everything & deserved the Gold. Still, happy for M&C to finally win a Worlds. Dance judging quite dicy - who were the judges? They obviously didn't reward anything inovative (ie the Eleanor Rigby skate) which was way better than the Shibitanis.
i must say tho to get a score of 107 for a free dance on your first time competing it all season is absolutly amazing this year even davis and whites didnt get scores that high on there free skate when they competed it the first few times and even going into worlds they only had a season best of like 103 or something and the same for tessa and scott last year. basically what im saying is that if tessa and scott had been able to skate this year that program would have broken so many records
meryl and charlie may have had the edge today but they are not better than tessa and scott. they could have never pulled off a masterpiece like mahler. they are simply good technicians and had more mileage this season but as complete package, tessa and scott will always be superior.
@PMFrancisUrquhart Are you talking about 3 championships in a row, 2 out of which V/M missed half or more of the season due to surgery? You can't ignore the fact that in 2009 and 2011 they didn't have full season leading into the world championship. In 2010 they lost free skate by a very small margin because Scott made a mistake on twizzles. Kudos to V/M for actually skating at the post-Olympic worlds because many champions choose to skip it.
I stated that my comment was addressed to a few of those on this board who "snipe at Meryl and Charlie" and can't accept that Meryl and Charlie often deserve Gold. This is a rivalry we can all enjoy. We can show the same class and mutual admiration the skaters have. Those who snipe at Meryl and Charlie and make excuses just need the occasional wake-up call with facts. Don Cherry says making excuses and whining is not the Canadian way, no?
this program could've been amazing, it's just too bad that they didn't have time to tune up the finer details..wonder whether they'll keep this for next season..simply retool a few things, like the last lift.
@allapol1 with all your respect, it's completely a matter of taste - for example I hated Mahler just as much as you can hate a skating program. On the other hand you can say Tessa and Scott could have never pulled off a masterpiece like D/W's Samson and Dalilah. Both teams are totally different in terms of style, but that makes their rivalry even more exciting to watch.
Those of you who snipe at Meryl and Charlie need to be reminded: THIS IS THE THIRD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FREE DANCE IN A ROW IN WHICH THEY HAVE BEATEN VIRTUE AND MOIR. IT WAS NO FLUKE. You might very well think I will call you pathetic; I couldn't possibly comment.
.... "c'era un po' di scetticità?" Scetticità????????????? Ma la rai dove li va a prendere i commentatori? Non sanno nemmeno l'italiano....... Pazzesco lo diciamo noi a sentire commenti come questo: che livello. Sono capace anche io di dire che questi due fenomeni sono di un altro pianeta, basta avere due occhi e un cervello..... Non ho parole..
