While we didn't hear all that much from Vincent, that bit in the beginning, you can just feel how incredibly happy he is to share the podium with "freaking Nathan Chen and Yuzuru Hanyu." It was so cute!

Yuzuru is a fighter. He has a hard time overcome his emotions! I think if it was not in Japan, he would have less pressure as he pulled off at the Olympic! I hope Yuzuru will spend time doing Advertising, teaching ! He has the charisma and looks that very attractive not just skating but I am sure love to see him skate!

@@laurenkho2584 Its definitely less pressure on home ice. Also he has been in so many competitions and nothing will gave him more pressure than the 2018 olympics. Maybe Nathan is just better technically.(Which he is) But yuzuru is stronger in presentation but Technical is what matter most now.

Have been watching the WFSC 2019 and observed the following: (1) The best possible audience (number, support & applause) who is supportive to all the skaters. That speaks volume of the Japanese people. (2) The incredible Winnie the Pooh Shower of adoration. (3) One of the best if not the strongest performance from NC. He is unbeatable at that moment. (4) YH going all out to give his best...Respect!...but no one can beat aging & injuries. (4) The gratitude and positiveness from all three top competitors (especially VC) during the interview. They are champions because of that. Sportsmanship is central to any sports. The championship is only slightly marred by the so called fans that felt the need to attack others in order to call to attention the value of the skater they support. He doesn't need it. He is a performer legend already. But he is human and not a god. He is aging and injured. As it is, he did fantastic! Let's be gracious like HY. Stop pressuring him as it is so unhealthy.

The respect that nathan has on yuzuru is amazing, this is what we call senior junior relationship in sports. No matter what, u hv to hv a senior to look up, so that u can improve. Yuzu looked up from patrick chan to improve his skating quality. This is truly what we call sportsmanship.

There are people who twist his word and misinterpret his interview in English and drive him like a weird person, so I'll translate a few. He was asked by a Chinese reporter about the Beijing Olympics and said, "i have no plans for next season. I need to see the condition of my ankle.(twice same area) I want to take the time to think about it."He says "I really believe that the Olympics is a wonderful thing I think it really should be the goal that all of us as athletes as figure skaters should aim for and think a true champion can say something at the top of the Olympics. so I am looking forward to finding out who will become the champion in Beijing" .his thought of the Olympics because of the question about the Olympics. In a broadcast interview ahead of the press conference, Hanyu said, "Even if I cleaned Short and Free, I couldn't win Nathan. I clearly lost." Then Japanese reporter asked literally "you(yuzu) told that even if you both clean, you did not win over Nathan. Then I think the next weapon is 4A", "if i could see your 4A in my lifetime? I really want to see it". It's a very rude question. This is a pressing question for him. Japanese media put pressure on Yuzu to win even after olympics gold. If he wins second place, they writes in the newspaper that it is a crushing defeat. The reporter first asked to him " if I could see 4A when I was alive?" So Yuzu replied, "I'll make sure to jump before Mrs. Nomichi? dies. In a game. It's meaningless if i don't jump in a game." Why are you making him look like a weirdo when the reporter asked that question first?

Yuzu haters really like to read his words strictly with a magnifying glass! Why he couldn’t talk about his injury since it was a fact that he still took painkillers in that competition? Why he couldn’t fight back while the reporter asked a rude question? Why he should be perfect every minute even if he was certainly not in a good mood? Before he is a 2 times Olympic champion, he is also a human being! Not even mentioned he was continuously underscored by ISU judges in the past 4 years

Haters try so hard to belittle Yuzu in order to promote Nathan! We all know how ISU had changed the rules and scoring system in order to let Nathan won in every competition. I am glad Yuzu still insists on his skating style with artistry even though ISU only care about quads nowadays. That’s the reason why Yuzu still have so many fans even though he didn’t win .And his fanbase even had increased a lot after Beijing winter Olympic

Each one of them has amazing character. They are kind, respectful and hardworking athletes. Been a Yuzu fan for many years but RESPECT and GREAT ADMIRATION to both Nathan and Vincent. 😇 Yuzu is one of a kind. Nathan is out of this world. And Vincent is catching up to the top. Also, I get so irritated with people disrespecting Nathan's achievement just because they think their defending Yuzu. Nathan stormed into the seniors scene using his athleticism but knew he had to imrprove. He improved a lot. His personality and "artistry" shows in his two latest seasons. He is so different from Yuzu and because of that figure skating is evolving further. Stop the madness and just enjoy their performances as fans and audience. 💖

Awesome athletes! It's great that they have so much respect for each other. I wish the media (especially that in North America) was more responsible and respectful of the athletes to portray them as they are, instead of saying hurtful things about any of them or attempt to paint a misleading picture of figure skating in order to pit them against one another. Specifically with regards to US media, there is no need to rewrite figure skating history to work in your favor or to discredit Hanyu's past achievements to raise your own athletes. As you can see, Nathan has proved with his talent and merits alone that he is a fantastic skater and doesn't need journalists to unnecessarily add fuel to the fire. I have even been very disappointed by some past skater's comments misrepresenting a lot of what has happened here...they of all people should know not to say disrespectful things about these guys, no matter where they're standing on the podium. All of them should take a page from Nathan, Yuzu and Vincent's books and be decent, respectful human beings instead of writing biased and misinformed pieces in order to drum up business or interest in the sport.

Nathan Chen fans in the comments section acting like toddlers. Seriously, you can be a big fan of a skater without bringing another one down. Naming Yuzuru all these bad things now that Nathan was on top these years doesn’t mean that Yuzuru isn’t the GOAT. Are we seriously going to forget just like that what Yuzuru achieved all these years and how he changed the sport in every positive way. It also seems that Nathan Chen fans don’t allow any human emotions. Like seriously, Yuzuru had showed that he has great sportsmanship throughout the years of him competing, he is upset one time and they suddenly call him all these bad names without obviously not knowing a lot about him. Not to mention he has been underscored by the ISU since 2018 and even his coaches noticed. Yuzuru also has more pressure of winning bc his expectations got higher by him winning gold so many times. Furthermore, Yuzuru is just different than Nathan and that’s not a bad thing. Just bc Yuzuru is way harder on himself doesn’t mean that he is “crazy” or some nonsense. He is allowed to feel this way and it makes sense. It’s just sad that people have to put someone down in order to put others like Nathan on a pedestal.

In terms of jumps he kinda does though, not really in anything else. Nathen in particular has the quad lutz and flip which are very high base value jumps and he has the textbook take off and height, and in terms of artistry he will gradually get better and better as he grows and learns like every skater would. Yuzuru really needs that quad lutz back that he did once in competition last season. He was injured months before but hopefully he gets back to health and does it again. Also please be positive like Yuzuru probablly wants us to be and dont hate on any skaters. Yuzuru is behind in terms of quantity in his jumps and will need to catch up, even Shoma has done quad flips, he needs to get back to health and catch up.

@@rosevaliant Well, I never said it's a good think that Vincent is there either. In my opinion, other skaters deserve it more but we know how inaccurate the judges are in their "judging" (if you can even call it that). Actually, he doesn't. A correct flip is supposed to only have a slight inside edge but Shoma has a really deep one. He over-rotates the entry, pre-rotates up to 180°-270° (1/2 - 3/4), uses the full blade instead of just the toe and sometimes misses over 90° on the landing, too.

It's pretty obvious Yuzuru was having a difficult time with the silver medal. IMO, he should learn to appreciate the sport a little more rather than always being so obsessed with trying to beat a rival(or being the first guy to do a 4A). I don't think it's very healthy for his mentality. He should take a page from Nathan and learn to relax just a little bit. Might actually help him perform better. His comment about being disappointed with his silver...is it just me or did Nathan seem a bit uncomfortable as the camera was panning past him? It was kind of an awkward moment. I'm also trying to not think badly of him in regards to the comment about how you can only be a true champion when you've been on top of the podium at the Olympics. Knowing how much Nathan struggled at the last Olympics, it was probably an insensitive thing to say. Maybe it wasn't his intention to slight anyone but, right before that statement, he did mention that he's already won the Olympic gold twice. That was probably a little awkward for Nathan too. If Yuzuru truly believes a gold at the Olympics to be the pinnicle, why is he so upset about the silver here at Worlds then? He should be happy with his two Olympic gold medals and just enjoy the moment. But, OMG, Vincent...lol. I love how positive he was and how happy he was about being up there with "FREAKIN' Nathan Chen and Yuzuru Hanyu", lol. He's so adorable! And Nathan's comment about how fortunate it was that the Pooh Bears were on one side of the rink was rather funny. So proud of our American guys ^^

I surely hope the translator made some kind of error; because it really sounded like Yuzu just shit all over Nathan Chen when he said you can't truly call yourself a champion until you've stood the top of the podium at the Olympics (which is bullshit btw)! Yuzu seems like a nice person so I'm gonna believe he meant no disrespect. And as for The Olympics, if you go back and watch it again you'll see that Shoma Uno really won that competition!!

It sounds like you're interpreting what he said in the worst way possible. He was asked his thoughts about the Olympics and he said that the Olympics is what every athlete aims for; in his mind, it is the highest honour. He did not even mention Nathan, I really don't think it was a slight against anyone. If you listen to his first answer, where he talks about working harder to catch up to Nathan, you can see he holds him in high esteem. But, pray tell, how is it that Shoma was supposed to have won the Olympics? He made multiple errors in the free. His jump technique leaves much to be desired.

I watched a Japanese documentary about 2019 WC, where Japanese reporters interviewed Hanyu right after the competition. Hanyu almost burst into tears. He said that losing games is like death to him. He looked very disheartened. In the documentary, the Japanese media also interviewed Evgeni Plushenko, asking him what advice he could give to Hanyu. Plushenko answered: what I regret most in my skating career is thinking of beating another skater again, always trying to beat him. Tbh, I could not bring myself to admire Hanyu after watching that Japanese documentary. He did not appear to take the loss very well. It's not very good sportsmanship.

50:07 "Only when you get to the top of [the Olympic podium] can you call yourself a true champion." Hanyu, having just gotten his ass kicked by Nathan by 22 points, has the audacity to say THAT with Nathan sitting right next to him in this press conference. He doesn't respect Nathan at ALL, and that comment was a resentful dig at Nathan because Hanyu was embarrassed about losing to Nathan in their first match-up since the Peyongchang Olympics. His comment was also an insult to ALL the other great skaters who won all the big championships except Olympic gold. Not champions? Don't think so. Oh, and by the way, Hanyu, I'm calling from the future. You'll also get your ass kicked by Nathan by 44 points at the 2019 GPF, 32 points at 2021 Worlds, and 49 points at the 2022 Olympics where Nathan will win gold. He will NEVER lose to you again. Enjoy the ride!

While I appreciate your comment, I don't think Hanyu disrespects Nathan at all...He was just stating a common conception. For figure skating, the highest medal is the Olympic Gold and any ambitious competitive skater often dream of getting an the Olympic Gold. Just like how people take the Oscars more seriously than the Emmys or Golden Globes. I think this what he was trying to say... Furthermore, Hanyu spoke in Japanese in this interview so there is also room for mistranslations. I don't know what kind of person Hanyu is in real life. However, based on what I have seen on other interviews, I can assure you that Hanyu always treats his fellow skaters with respect and kindness. The only person he underappreciates is himself. While Hanyu may have faults (cuz he's human), treating his competitors like shit ain't one of them.

@@stars7293 In the 34 years that I've been following figure skating, I don't know anyone who believes that unless you've won the Olympics, you're NOT a true champion. Then why do we have a World Champion? A Grand Prix Final Champion? A European Champion? A Skate America Champion, and so on? Michelle Kwan had a staggering career that included five World Championship titles (three more than Hanyu) but never won Olympic gold. Michelle not a champion? No way.That was a self-serving comment from Hanyu in a moment of embarrassment. Watch Hanyu's solo press conference in Beijing after the Olympic men's singles event. At the end of that press conference, a reporter asks him how he feels now that he's not the reigning Olympic Champion. As part of his response, Hanyu says, "I am the King of the Olympics. I'M the one with two Olympic gold medals. I'M the one with two consecutive titles." He was so insecure because of Nathan that he had to make up a silly title and assign it to himself in order to try and forget that he was just defeated by Nathan by 49.39 points. It was so disrespectful to Nathan to make such a comment, to try and elevate himself above the Olympic Champion with such a silly title. He only made himself look foolish because there are quite a few other male figure skaters, past and present, who have far better and more winning careers than Hanyu like Gillis Grafstrom of Sweden (three Olympic gold medals), Karl Shafer of Austria (two Olympic gold medals and seven consecutive World Championships), Dick Button of the U.S. (two Olympic gold medals and five consecutive World Championships). At the end of the 21-22 season, Hanyu's win rate in international competition is just 40% or only 4 out of every 10 competitions. He's won only 17 of 43 international competitions. In comparison, Nathan Chen has the highest win rate of any skater in the modern era (post-1970) of 73% or over 7 out of every 10 competitions. In his last 5 years, he lost just twice for a win rate of 88%, and in his last four years, he lost only once for a win rate of 92% with three undefeated seasons. Evgeny Plushenko had a win rate of 68% with two undefeated seasons, Alexei Yagudin had a 61% win rate with two undefeated seasons. Hanyu had no undefeated seasons. When Hanyu's second Olympic gold medal is put back into the context of the rest of his career, it's clear he's NOT the "King of the Olympics" or even "the greatest" of all time because lots of other skaters had much better and more winning careers. Being a TRUE champion is about far more that just winning one particular competition, even if it's the Olympics. I don't think anyone would say Sotnikova of Russia is "the greatest" ladies skater and a "true champion" just because the won Olympic gold in 2014. She doesn't even have a World title. No, being a true champion is about FAR more than the Olympics, even it you win it twice.

@@L1623VP I did not know he answered the Beijing Olympic question that way. I think what Hanyu is lacking is EQ. No one answers a question like that unless you really don't like someone who just won a competition against you. If Nathan was the winner of the last Olympic he would not have answered the question that way. I think Hanyu truly does not like Nathan that much. I think in his mind he thinks he is the GOAT until Nathan, who he thinks is not as good as him, took that status from him by beating him so badly. He had been trying so hard to find excuses (injuries, asthma, the hole, trying 4A) for losing to Nathan in 4 years by over 35 points. Nathan is not just better in competition against Hanyu Nathan is in general more refine in communication and being more respectful to other skaters. He always says Hanyu is the best or Ilia is way better than I was when I was at his age, although both of those statements are not really true.
@L1623VP
@L1623VP Год назад
@@howardchan6167 Yes, Hanyu did answer that way. The video is still up on RU-vid. It happens near the end of his solo press conference. Since when does the skater in fourth place at any Olympics get his own press conference? Even so, it looked to be just the Japanese press contingent. It wasn't international, as far as I could tell. Near the end, a reporter asks Hanyu to respond to a comment he made before the Olympics about how, if he lost in Beijing, he was going to have a hard time accepting not being the Olympic champion anymore. Hanyu's response to him was, "Are you trying to make me cry?" No kidding. He then explains how he'll get through the pain of the loss by reminding himself, "I'M the one with two Olympic gold medals. I'M the King of the Olympics." He says it twice. People who compare themselves to others are often deeply insecure, which I'd long suspected Hanyu of being. With comments like he made at the 2019 Worlds press conference and after the 2022 Olympics, not to mention how Hanyu deliberately manipulated his fans' emotions in several ways to get bigger and bigger reactions out of them after skating and before Nathan took the ice, it's clear Hanyu never respected Nathan. This is why it always grated on me when Nathan would say such nice things about Hanyu, even calling him the GOAT because the sentiment was never returned. When the press would ask Hanyu what he thought about Nathan, he would reply with very generic comments about how good Nathan's jumps were. I was surprised during one press conference, it may have been after the 2019 GPF, that Hanyu actually admitted he was "jealous" of Nathan's abilities. I think that was only the beginning of what Hanyu REALLY felt about Nathan. While Nathan gave Hanyu too much credit and praise, including deferring to him as the GOAT (Fanyus LOVE to repeat that), I absolutely believe Nathan knew exactly where he stood with Hanyu, and that was head and shoulders above him. Nathan certainly knew he was far more technically advanced than Hanyu, could skate rings around him, had better stamina, and was equal in artistry across multiple styles, over a career of half as many years as Hanyu with a MUCH higher win rate. Nathan dominated his era; Hanyu didn't. While Nathan's personality as the humble champion was admirable and refreshing compared to the egocentric Hanyu, his humility could sometimes frustrate me, and that happened when he would lavish (undeserved) compliments on Hanyu while not really allowing himself to joyfully celebrate his own accomplishments. In the Kiss and Cry after several competitions, including at the Olympics, Raf had to grab Nathan's arm and raise it up in victory, celebrating what he'd just achieved. I even called out to my TV screen at the time, "Celebrate yourself, Nathan! You earned it! Look what you just did!" So, Nathan can't really believe some of the things he said about Hanyu. He's a smart guy. He knows the truth. Even so, I don't believe he was lying. I believe he said those things out of respect and good sportsmanship. I also suspected he might have put the GOAT label back on Hanyu so he wouldn't have to carry it and the pressure that goes with it into the 2022 Olympics, even though he (and LOTS of other people) have known for a long time that he (Nathan) was the real GOAT.

@@L1623VP Nathan is just a very unique skater. He never tried to find any excuses about why he did not win gold. He does not show drama when winning gold. I think that is his temperament. He praises his competitors excessively to give them some joy. He tries new (different) programs every new season (Short and Long) to keep challenging himself. That is amazing considering Hanyu milked a programs for at least two years. Vincent performed the same Long program for three years in a row. Even with all them Nathan is the most consistent performer with the most difficult programs in the history of figure skating. Scott Hamilton would agree. One thing that Fanyus always complaint about is that the judges or ISU favors the American skaters and therefore, Nathan's scores are highly inflated. Look at Ilia last season. His GOEs were low and his PCS was a disaster. Shoma won two World Championships (if Nathan was there Shoma would have no chance. Just look at the scores). Why wouldn't ISU inflate Ilia's scores if they want to please the US? All nonsense.
