You want to know the Holden Trailblazer towing capacity, and the Isuzu MU-X towing capacity, and which of these two is the "best SUV for towing caravan". Okay, you might actually have better grammar than that, but we know you've been searching for this test. So here it is!

Very surprised by his comments on steering and suspension. We test drove both vehicles back to back and the Trailblazer was a much nicer vehicle to drive. We purchased the Trailblazer and towed a car trailer with a car on it from Brisbane to Newcastle and back, averaged 10.4lt/100km over 1800km. Steering feel and suspension ride was excellent. Absolutely love the Trailblazer!

We have the previous model MUX LST in 2wd. and with the old 5 sp auto. Average fuel consumption unloaded is more like 8.9 l/100km and towing a loaded double horse float (admittedly lower in weight than the test) around 16 l/100km. Almost four years and 160,000 kms later and it still pulls and tows exactly the same as the day we bought it. Yes the engine is a touch noisier than the Holden and the torque figures on paper are lower but the engines and gearboxes are built for long life and in real world driving it just works.

Isuzu every Day of the Week. Bit of an unfair Comparison though. The MU-X was just Pulling the Jayco. Whilst the Trailblazer was dragging Holden's Survival Prospects in Australia along with it...

Are those fuel towing figures normal average?, I tow a 22ft (non pop up )Sterling with my 3 tonne tow 2011 short wheel base Prado and the only time I had such high fuel usage was up North driving between Port Hedland and Broome into head winds, 20/21 Litres per 100 k/s and with no wind good or bad about 15 litres, my very best ever was heading East from Norseman across the Nullabor (tail wind) 12.7 litres

pointless complaining about gears hunting when you can simply put it into sport select and make it stay in a gear suitable for a climb etc, that's how you should be driving. Keep the engine in its best torque band for the speed.

I think anybody who will be towing a bigger styled van would have the suspension changed anyway so it puts both of them on par with each other. Then it comes down to what you like. For me I loved my Holden for the interior and power BUT I do find the izuzu is related with reliability and if Holden can get on par with that it would be a real good tow car.

The other thing is the amount of lemon 2.8 colarados and trailblazers there are is horrific, the Isuzu is the better option not only is it real life more efficient than the Colorado (after doing 5 separate test with me and my mates we came to the conclusion) but it has a lot more left in the tank power wise... The 4jj1 motor is well know in the desiel industry for the being by far the best motor for big power but it is also a bigger and a lot more beeffer motor that is tuned to be understressed (it does have a terrible throttle tune..)and last a life time.

So we do a fuel comparison and the Trailblazer "easily wins that" and then you forget to mention the MU-X only has a tiny 65 litre tank where as the Trailblazer has a 76 litre tank i.e. pretty much 17% more fuel. Hmm I guess if you don't mind stopping to fuel up regularly then go with the MU-X but if you want to get to your destination while it's still daylight you should consider the Trailblazer.

I agree the Isuzu should always be the preferred tow vehicle, it is what Isuzu build for. I am a little surprised by your assessment on fuel economy. Comparing D-Max vs Colorado the D-Max consistently comes out ahead. I drive a manual D-Max, full of tools no trailer always get between 7.2 to 7.5 L per 100 Km, when towing work trailer get 10 -13 L per 100 km. Mates Colorado get 9.5L per 100 Km at best unladen. Yes Holdens quicker of the mark but that is not what these vehicles should be judged on. Isuzu better warranty, servicing etc. As for noise I always here reviewers comment on this, usually not what I experience. Isuzu is called loud but better than most out there, to me Holden, Mitsubishi, Ford all sound more agricultural.

We have a Chevy TB LT model 4x2, best SUV we had so far. No other SUV can catch it on traffic breakaway. Pull and acceleration rate is always a beast mode, and it will literally push you back in your seat. Tow something heavy and the suspension can assure you the weight will not throw your passengers up when you drive thru bumps and pot holes. it is just hard enough to control the downward weight of the load on bumps. too soft suspensions will make the MuX with Towed load turn into a jumping jack on long uneven terrain. we had montero, fortuner, everest, MuX and this TB is the latest. With Chevy TB, we rarely go over 2000 rpm to maintain a speed of 120-140kph even with a towed load.

the GM version has awful electric steering which as Matt explained has a centre dead spot as its not switch on while off centre it's eve worse as it's switched on and over geared, the Isuzu version has speed speed sensitive hydraulic power steering so as slower parking speeds it's heavier but once moving does lighten up and provide excellent road feel however it will load up more around bends (making it heavy) but the feedback you get allows the driver more confidence to push on, the other key difference is suspension tuning, GM have gone for a stiffer set up as a compromise for on-road use whereas Isuzu have gone softer for off-road and towing which explains why the M-UX feel like a boat on-road in terms of suspension tune. The GM version has better engine and transmission and better interior presentation, as for fuel economy it really comes down to how hard the driver presses on and with that the Isuzu will use more as it has to work harder to get the same levels from it as the GM version, which one is better? look at the compromise and work it out from that and as such the Trailblazer is the better of the two as its less compromised for overall use.

They use to be parted ways. Not sure when. I think around 2016? The trail blazer engine is some Italian thing ... but made in Thailand like almost everything else

I think Isuzu MuX came out like that in the Philippines on 2014 while the Trailblazer already have that appearance since 2011. so i think it is proper to state that Isuzu MuX is just a re-badged Trailblazer. Isuzu MuX was first launched in Thailand on late 2013, launched by Isuzu and General Motors, who markets Chevrolet and Holden.

Jei Cee Tee wrong, mux was designed 1st but trailblazer was released 1st in the market, does not matter because this 2 are twin, they have one designer and under general motors, today Isuzu is not part of General motors,Trailblazer and isuzu alterra but alterra is not popular to philippines compare to montero and fortuner, the mu-x is also alterra but isuzu change its name.

Wrong do more research, the Isuzu has a top reliability record, so what your saying is a BMW X5 would be better quality than your landcruiser because it’s dearer again
