Down to cam removal and adjustment. Using the Bentley manual for reference.
These videos are not a how to but instead just documentation of the steps I did to diagnose and repair a problem I was having with my personal Isuzu rodeo. Use as reference as needed.

hey man, ive had mine for 2 years in the garage. finally save enough for a remanufactured motor 3500 bucks....(5.3 chevys are 2700) a real kick in the pants but it will run for a long time :)

I don’t think have anything extra for that motor. I was just looking at some remanufactured engines for another vehicle. Would be nice to have that reliability of all fresh everything.

IV changed the valve cover gaskets on both sides-i can't believe that I had to take off the brake pedal and brake booster just to get to the back bottom bolt-while I'm doing all of this-the one job that I think a will hate the most is doing the T-stat-do you have a video on that?

I don’t have a video on that just yet. It is a pain to change. The little coolant manifold has to come off. Couple painstaking items make it time consuming.

Hi, Great videos you’re making! I’ve got a question. I was trying to change the front cam-plugs so i removed the first cam-caps on both sides without putting in the 5mm to lock up the cam gears. I haven’t remove the timing belt when i took them off, i don’t remember hearing the spring-loaded cam gears popped…am I ok or i just messed it up?
@r1beef88
@r1beef88 Год назад
Hey there. No you haven’t messed them up so to say. They don’t rotate too much and are easily reset. It’s clear as the teeth aren’t aligned Front to back. Using any tool that can grab the cog and twisting it back till the screw goes in will fix that right up. There isn’t that much tension in the spring. 👍. It only rotates a tooth or even just a half tooth.

Great video series, but you went from a timing belt replacement and then to a can shaft synchronization and then stopped, didn't finish up the timing belt replacement and went to series 6, said itr was all done and moved to another Isuzu, what gives?

Im currently about to replace the cam plugs and cam seals, what would you say is not neccesary in these vids to do and anything i should do? Thanks in advance!

If your just doing the seals and plugs then you only need expose the cams. It’s been a while but, you need to get the coil over plugs off, any brackets on the valve covers. I think you’ll need to remove the brake booster, it’s easier to access the bolts and remove the drivers valve cover. Focus on the necessities, The covers can be removed with little else removed off engine. And easily access the cams. Don’t over goop the edges when reinstalling the valve covers. It will cause the new plugs to pop out. Only use enough to do job on edges specified. Less is more 👍.

Looks good ,the bolts you used to lock the cam should be exactly the same on both sides,from valve cover mating area on head to those bolts you used to lock the cams,if it's half an inch on the left it should be half an inch on the right.

So what was the outcome? Did you figure out the correct position of the cams? The ending was unclear. Did you also check the lash adjustment?
@r1beef88
@r1beef88 Год назад
I have released part 6 which is a wrap up and first start video. Outcome was a success. The engine ran beautifully and smoothly and didn’t leak a drip or burn and oil. I didn’t check any lash adjustments because this engine is a hydraulic lifter motor and I believe those are self adjusting on this engine anyway. As far as I can tell the issues were due to a faulty cheap new timing belt tensioner and the new paper gasket that failed in the intake manifold. The clocking I was worried about didn’t seem to be an issue. Possibly it wasn’t clocking properly due to the lifter being not fully pumped up with oil and the engine didn’t run much after rebuild. Until after these videos.

@@r1beef88 that engine is not hydraulic lifter, the shim sits down in the lifter bucket cap and they come in several thicknesses they are solid lifters its hard to find those shims locally for me found service sets on ebay for several hundred..
