@@TitaniumTurbinedude I used to get home as a kid and watch that, I was maybe 11 recording it on the box TV 😂 There was something awesome about *The heat of Detroit* compared to my outback Australian standard.
@@FidgetyGuy Autism: "allow me to introduce myself" But jokes aside, these people definitely aren't as intellectually efficient as they try to make it seem.
Who cares, it’s entertaining television and it being not entirely real doesn’t change anything unless you’re a kid. Anyone with a brain should’ve known already
All reality TV shows are fake. I used to work at a body shop that restored cars for the Wheeler Dealer car show. During filming, the guy from the show would start doing the work then they would cut the filming and my helper would actually do the work. When he was done, the guy from the show (Mike) would go back out and start doing the work, and they would start filming again, although the work was already finished. That way it looked like he did all the work. Same with the painting.
Totally believable that all these experts are just sitting around doing nothing, waiting for the pawn shop to call to fly down there and give their expert opinion.
my favorite thing is when they'll look a small mark or symbol and be like "oh that was manufactured in 1820 and is one of 10 others made" and then they make a 20k deal on it off someones opinion
well the show does stage it like it's later in the day or maybe later in the week, so it's not implied they dropped what they where doing to rush over.
If you really believe what you just commented, You’re a clueless individual! Of course you’re not just sulking around waiting for the pawn shop to call. It’s set up days in advance. SMH
Rick is his attorney. Judge he may sit for a while. He takes alot of space in a jail cell. Best i can do is a get out of jail free card from monopoly and 5 cents. We are taking a risk
I don’t know much about Nevada criminal law or the court system. Tell you what, I’m gonna have a buddy of mine come down and appraise Chumlee of what his options are.
I remember when they used to put five episodes of pawn Stars and then five episodes of American Pickers right behind each other. One day I was watching it and somebody brought in a civil war belt with initials on it and a bullet stuck in it and Rick said it was fake and then two episodes later on American pickers they found it in a garage. 🤣
The only reality show on TV that almost announces that it's fake but nobody cares. The back stories and information behind all the random items is what makes it. Oh, and Rebecca too.
well yeah. they'd otherwise be too busy, so they actually keep them there in their cages and feed them through a tube. otherwise they'd get out and youd never see them again.
When all your local pawn stores only have garbage , a few pieces of jewelry and a few guns at best , mostly stolen power tools and withdrawling addicts
You're exactly right I live in Vegas and no other pawn shop has anything worth any real money. It's all junk nobody wants. You won't find anything rare or collectable.
What is withdrawling? Thats funny you hahe been in them enough to know the exact crowd they attract. Maybe stop looking fown on people who have problems or diseases kaybe try to help them hot shot
Agree. I loved this show when I was younger. You learn a lot and it's entertaining. Who cares about the fine details. It's meant to entertain us and it does. Stop trying to find things to complain about. Go enjoy life.
Yeah Rick, Chumlee and Corey always said it's staged. People act like they were trying to lie lol. They said only the negotiations are real during the show, but they know what's coming in to know if it's worth making an episode for. They even said somewhere that the producers reach out to people with intresting ebay listings for people to learn about the item. Like when pokemon go was popular, they hit up that charizard guy through an ebay listing. They don't seem to hide it. And I agree, I still like watching it despite that though.
I'm shocked. I thought for sure there were just random cameras on the wall filming everything in real time and magically sending the images to my TV. (rolling my eyes)
You’re saying this, but these shows also air in Europe, and we don’t really the same type of pawn shops at all, so I think it’s widely believed as true in Europe
I feel like this was a known thing... I've actually been on the show (well, my dad was the item seller, I was in the background)... They film like three takes with different dialogue in a fake store, then splice together the different takes based on what they want to use and boom, episode material... What is really funny about it is that because of them using bits from each take, I teleport in the background a lot. They basically flew us out there and offered us a room in a casino hotel, but we opted to stay elsewhere since we had a preferred casino/hotel. It was a bit wild seeing the shoot play out, we were maybe in there filming for like an hour, max. The funniest bit was the "Expert" is already there and the "door" they enter is a fake door with a big white paper behind it. But yes, it is absolutely a scripted show.
I knew this since season 2... I visited the shop multiple times. one time they were filming and as they were talking to the "seller", I peeked at the pile of papers he was reading. it was a SCRIPT.
I went out to Vegas at the height of the show and actually parked in the Old man's spot. I had to move my car and also has to wait to go in because they were recording a show. I went in and it looks exactly like it does on the show but seemed a lot smaller. I asked if any of the guys were around but they wasnt just the old man. I begged the cashier to ask him to come out and i would give him 20 bucks and buy an Old Man pawn stars shirt. He came out, shook my hand and signed my shirt i just bought. He was really nice and I still have that shirt.
There is always the cardboard cut out of Rick in the back you could have taken a photo with… Pretty cool meeting Old Man. 👍 He’s got his own silver coin too.
What's funny is, the big black security guy was sitting at the door and wanted to see my receipt and I showed him my signed shirt and he said " I dont care, the Old Man signs a lot of things". So, I tried to seduce him with " Hey, man, I see you on TV it's great to meet you" and he just rudely replied " Yeah, well, I still gotta job to do so where's the receipt"? It hurt my feelings cause he was rude and I was just giddy to meet him. He didn't care at all about his celebrity status 😂
@@itsconsolefix Life can get mundane and boring for some, people need things to do besides twiddling their thumbs. Pawn Stars is a fun and entertaining outlet as it deals with cool items and real world transactions (although it’s a scripted show). It’s funner than starring out a window of a hotel, or walking around people watching in Vegas. It’s a destination. Why hate on it?
Not always it started in britan and was pure quality with a show called castaway theres other but thats the main one castaway where people had to live on a remote scottish island for a year then the americans copied the show which was a huge success but quickly realised if they try make them into stars they will make money and now we have reality tv shows that are staged on both sides of the pond where scenes are acted out its garbage and none of them are worth watching .
It’s not all fake. My mom used to have to take loans out on her wedding ring to pay the bills many times and the old man would take care of her and say “ let me take care of this young lady” ( even though she was in her early 50s). He also gave her the greatest loan out of every shop in vegas. Truly a classic business man❤
I bought my engagement ring at their pawn shop. A few years later I took it into my local coin store to have it appraised and the first thing the guy said when he looked through the loop was “damn that’s a nice rock!”
@@Unkown6678It’s important to note that the old man supposedly opened the shop decades ago, so it would make sense it was an actual pawn shop strictly before going into the show bussiness. You could tell old man actually did like to help people at times
Yep they all are mostly.. they’re fkn pricks.. I’ve met only one here near me where the owner is actually pretty cool… he’s all about money but isn’t a prick about it..
@@wizardkhat Many of them probably take advantage of people strapped for cash and rip them off, you only get like 10-20% of the value of what you pawn. Not that I’m complaining I rarely have to pawn shit because I work.
I figured this out in 2010 when my family went to Vegas to visit family. We showed up here and the front is really really nice, and the rest is just a greasy Las Vegas pawn shop.
Same. I did buy a polo from the gift shop. Tried to negotiate the price, even though I bet they get that all the time. The st louis ribs next door were decent
I've been in the shop once. It's super small and cramped. 20 people in it would be a fire hazard. There's a huge line outside the door and you're allowed like 10 minutes in there before they tell you to F. O.
Dead give away is the expert somehow being able to show up 5 minutes after a 'random shopper' stops by with some super rare item. As if they have the guy living next door lol
My husband and I have been binge watching lately. We have a good laugh, especially when Cory, Rick and Chum go on and on like they really know the history behind an item, and it always sounds acted
I could believe Rick knows his shit about history. Man reads a lot of books. Cory, can kinda see it, although skeptical about some of what he says on the show. But Chum on the other hand, he seems like the type of person with a lot of niche useless information.
@@joshtoyfrom what I’ve heard, chum certainly does have some somewhat niche interests, like I remember sneaker collecting was one of his things, though that’s hardly all that niche nowadays anyway, more hipster or something.. but actually it seemed like he was a lot smarter than how he’s cast on the show, he’s no Cambridge scholar but he definitely is smart and a good businessman while the character he plays is clearly very much the “doofus” of the show; I suspect he was more than happy to play the part though seeing how far it got him. Too bad about the SA charges though. He’s likable but SA isn’t a good look..
It is not acted, it is prepared. The objects are real, the customers are real, but the show is planed and prepared and only certain objects make it to the show.
@@GhostSenshi true. The pawn shop is essentially a gift shop for the stores merchandise lol. Cool to say you've been there , but hardly worth going out of your way.
@@Sniperboy5551 Yeah I was gonna say the creator of this short said "Chumlee arrested and charged with 20 counts including sex assault and possession of an illegal firearm....he pleaded guilty..." kinda sloppy to the point that Chumlee could actually sue. He didn't plead guilty to sexual assault. His career would be over.
@@canalesworks1247 Chumlee took a plea bargain, pleading guilty to a felony weapon charge and an attempted drug possession misdemeanor, avoiding jail time.
Honestly, still is one of my favourite show. Growing up, my whole family used to watch this show at dinner. That is one of my fondest memories. Old Man was my favourite character.
They used to film in the actual shop but ever since Pawn Stars got famous the producers decided shoot the series in a studio settings to avoid disrupting their business.
They still film in the shop. Nothing online says otherwise. The shop got super popular after the first season. They have a way to work around customers when it comes to filming. It’s largely set up. But it’s definitely shot on site.
They don’t shoot in the shop now. Perhaps early on but not for several years. It’s a set next to the shop. The studio is very different from the actual shop. Keep in mind the lighting and sound has to be right. Too chaotic to shoot in the general population, plus would interfere with business.
I went there in like 2012 and it happened to be a day they were filming. But like 70% of the store was sectioned off for them so you could only really see from afar. It was Rick and some dude selling a red box/book thing? The whole store just felt like a gift shop more than anything, just Pawn Stars merch all over the place lol
Seasons shot during COVID you can barely see any customer even employees are not that much and weirdest thing is how these experts come in like a regular day and interact with customer like it's nothing first I believed these were real episodes but since seasons during COVID were aired it made me believe they are fake or atleast what they show on TV
I knew someone that go on an episode of hardcore pawn with their collection. On the episode they negotiate and reach a sale, in real life he went home with his collection because he said they actually weren't interested in buying it just pretending to for the show.
Nah bro they actually buy the stuff in person when they buy it on the show, I was there when they were filming in 2004 only they were taking a break when I went in and it was more of a normal pawn shop experience for me with a few cameras around that weren't filming at that moment but yeah I sold Rick a ring great guy in real life
I went to the Wahlburgers in Las Vegas a few years back, but couldn’t get in due to security at both doors. Even the walk up bar was being guarded but you could still clearly see inside. I was confused because there were customers in there eating. Soon found out they were filming an episode of The Wahlbugers. Donny and Jenny were there, when they entered the building the director was trying to hype up the crowd to make it seem like there was a ton of people there cheering for them. In fact most people were just standing around confused as to what was going on. Donny and Jenny started serving drinks to the “customers” who I realized were all wearing “New Kids on the Block” tshirts. Then Boys 2 Men showed up and after about 20-30 mins, they all left. When I actually saw the episode later, they made it seem like they just popped in unannounced and hung out with the customers for a long time, debuting Jenny’s new brand of Vodka. It was kinda cool to see but it did open my eyes to the “reality” of reality tv.
I actually went here one day on a vacation, and it happened to be a day they were filming. I got to see Rick and Corey which was cool, but it was very obvious they don't work there, nor is it really a pawn shop. If anything it's a Pawn Stars Gift Shop with some expensive stuff you could potentially buy.
90% a pawn shops are thieves. They rob you and the owners are dirtbags! If you go into a pawnshop, whether you’re trying to buy an item or pawn an item, you will get ripped off. So do not go to a pawnshop unless you want to get ripped off!
I’ve also got hella good deals when the pawn shop owner was dumb. But that was before it was so easy to look up value on everything. Kinda like how good will charges out the ass for some objects now because someone googles them now.
"Hi I've got this 70 foot trebuchet up for grabs" "great I've a friend who's an expert in medieval huge trebuchets just right around the corner, I'll give him a call"
I was paid $120 plus a free lunch to be a part of the background on their Pawn Stars across America show. It was fun to be there and I did get to see some cool stuff.
I actually met Chum Lee at the shop in 2018. Everyone said you will never seen any of the guys there. Me and my Dad went and were looking around for about 5 mins the place is tiny lmao I took a picture with the cardboard cut out and we turn around to walk out and Chum Lee walks in the door. I got a quick pic with him and we left 😂 worth it.
The show was somewhat based on reality in its early days but that is long gone. Once Corey and Chum started speaking like Rick when talking about an obscure item I realized they just didn't care to hide it anymore. Most people tune in these days just to see really cool artifacts and the history behind them.
I went their shop in 2011 one time and old man and Chumlee were both there. I asked old man if I could get a balloon ride and he grumbled and face palmed.
