Wow!!!! I tried making this simple change on Saturday and shot 5 under my handicap. The different mind set even helped my putting. Thanks for the tip it was my best Christmas present this year.
Shawn! I just stumbled across this video after golfing (and struggling at golfing) for 3 years. This setup allowed me to use my baseball swing that I used to hit a lot of home runs with and added 40+ yards per club, INSTANTLY! Thank you!!!! This makes the swing finally make sense!
Right on! This is the way to bring out the athlete! Pure flow to your targets! When you eventually get to our premium channel at Wisdom in Golf Premium.com, you will get my life’s work on what to stay focused on to continue evolving in the right direction!
Stumbled across your videos a few years ago. I've never seen an instructor try to break down and simplify a swing, making it visually realatable to an individual's swing. Keep up the great work Shawn.
I just wanted to thank you Shawn, I can't golf often because I'm always in pain. Mostly my legs and back for the last 42 years but arthritis is now a factor. I went to play a round the other day after trying to hit at the range. I was hitting way before the ball or topping it and couldn't get any timing in my swing and was leaving my clubface way open. Yesterday I went back to the range with the goal of finally trying your way, I made my grip strong and after 3 balls I was hitting my 9 iron around 160 carry when I really went after it and it was going straight. I hit my 7 iron to 205 once. My 3wood went 260 carry and dead straight. I need to figure out the video feature on the swingcaddy my kids got for me a couple years ago so I can take some vids to post to show people that I works. I have never been able to hit straight because my arms wanted to it it like I would a baseball bat but my brain said no hit it like the golf guys on youtube say. I'm glad I found your channel but wish I would have followed your advice a long time ago. I hurt myself but it was worth it to have some fun at the range with all the young "in shape guys" watching and old fat guy slam a 3 wood past their drivers. You made a 57 year old disabled guys year
Shawn I just started learning to play golf last summer. My natural grip is the same as Sav’s and when my buddy I play with saw my grip he was like you need to fix your grip. So I tried lol. Watched hours of videos on RU-vid and this only made my grip worse. Until I watched a video with someone saying to swing YOUR swing. So that’s what I did, went back to swinging MY swing and things clicked for me. I didn’t come across your videos until the fall but I’m glad I have they are incredibly helpful. Also I think it’s great that you use a sledge hammer as a training aide…I swung a sledge hammer for a living for about five years and I’m pretty sure that’s where my grip comes from. You cannot fight your bodies mechanics when swinging an 8 pound hammer for day in and day out. You would instantly hurt yourself. IMO the conventional swing mechanics if golf being taught are some of the most unnatural feeling body movements I’ve ever tried to force myself to do. Keep up the awesome work and thank you Shawn, Sav, and Mu, you guys are awesome!
Yeah man! You are absolutely spot on in your comment and let’s finally turn the tide on all those neutral grip-face square thinkers out there who are far more worries about how you look than actual functionality, power and consistent accuracy of the swing!
Was at the range yesterday and thought this was a phenomenon because my shots were straight across all of my clubs. Found this video from a club review and not only validates what i stumbled on but teaches the correct technique, this is awesome🎉 thank you 😊
Watched your video yesterday. Played 18 today and for the first time in 2 years I felt like I was hitting the sweet spot on the ball. Score aside, I was very satisfied with my game today. The hammer drill worked very well for me. Thank you, and keep these videos coming. I really enjoy them and they are very helpful. James
I'm not one for "miracle" cures but decided to try this today in the golf simulator. I am 67 years of age and had been hitting my 8 iron on average 125-130 yards. After trying this hand adjustment and pushing hips slightly more to the left, I ripped the same club 148 yards without altering any other swing components. Each shot was consistent and straight even without any noticeable increase in clubhead speed but the smash factor was 1.48. Look forward to trying on the course next week. Thanks
Listening to this week's podcast and how thinking wrecks the game. 2 Saturday's ago I was playing in the weekend big game at my course. I shot a 35 on front 9 after birdie on the 9th hole. The first time I even thought about my score was when that birdie putt dropped. We head to 10 tee and all I can think about is my score and I promptly hit my drive about 30 yards out of bounds on #10.
So before you hit the shot; you need to give yourself the best ground to plant the seed into right? What I need to focus on is where I want the ball to go and make a flight plan; then set up to match and focus on the feel of task to deliver into the flight plan that will activate the body properly. this is the latest series we are doing on premium! 👍👍
Happened on to your channel today. Very interesting, and it made a lot of sense. I am an avid senior golfer, and I am going to give this a try. When I was young, I had a strong grip and played well. After family and career, I started taking the game really seriously and I have a neutral grip, and a nine handicap. Your lesson goes against what is out there and most of what I have learned. But, I have to try it, and I will let you know. For my sake, I hope it's magic.
Haha; oh yes! 😀👍👌💪😀🫶 We have a splendid senior series on our premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com (only $9.95 per month) which is also a great overview of our teachings. Then you want to jump into the first video of the “consistency series” and then dive into the “release” videos (use the search box at the top right corner of the “list of videos by date” page) and then you dive into the “throw the club” and the “throwing series” which then begs to perfect your ability to predict how the ball gets into the way of your new power plant with “predict contact” and the “goldie locks series” and finally the “target confirmation series” Then send me a swing clip or 2 when you feel you have reached next level and I will point you to other series for deeper low single digit fun to get you into club champ contender status!
To all who are wondering about the slices and wrists. I used this drill today and found that I didn’t have to change my grip. Just swung down into the ball like I was using a hammer on it. As long as my body turned and I made a good follow through, the ball was struck well. It felt more natural than the things I’ve tried this year. You really have to get out and try it. You have to commit to the full hammer effect and feel. If you have a swing at all it should give you the desired effect.
Super video again , I’m working with a coach just now and he has me bowing my lead wrist , it is working a bit , gained 30yards extra carry , although it does hurt when hitting ball after ball at the range and end with 1 out of 5 being a big hook . I love your method but but struggle with brace tilt and closed club face
Hey Graham! We are so much better than you think! When you jit a big hook, what was the last thing going through your mind before you swung and what was the effort level on a scale of 1-10?
Makes so much sense and Sav's swing is amazing! Maybe it's been addressed before, but I'm really interested in her inside, over-the-top move in transition....what does she feel from the top down to make that move?
This is our Double Clutch move! Watch a baseball hitter when he or she commits to a pitch and throw the arms away from the body as they step into it; baseball pitchers and tennis players in a serve have exactly the same clutch system! If you see our “kinetic chain facilitation series” on our premium channel, you will see why this is one of our favourite series because you will jot get this info ANYWHERE ELSE!! All task based all done without thinking! We are built for this move!
Nice swing!! Teach talks about tour pros impact position ..what about pros grips.. I don’t know of one pro with that strong of a grip.. will be very hard to hit a fade with that grip.. hard draws and hooks hard to stop in mid to firm conditions.. but hitting it far yes for sure
hey Brian! that is because you are not looking for them and are being brainwashed by the youtubers and teachers who teach STATIC POSITIONS TO HIT AT THE GOLF BALL, instead of delivering actions to a target. see these names for strong grips and they are not all there! FRED COUPLES,PAUL AZINGER,WEBB SIMPSON,PATRICK CANTLAY, BUBBA WATSON, Sergio Garcia, Zack Johnson, Brant Snedeker, Shane lowery, Gary woodland, Matt Kuchar, Keegan Bradley, Kyle Stanley, Martin Laird, Paul Casey, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Terrell Hatton, Mark Leishman, Bernhard Langer, Joaquin Niemann, Ryan Palmer, Mike Weir, Jason Kokrack, Rory Sabatini, Lanto Griffin, Brendan Todd, Kevin Kisner, Danny Willett , Jason Day, Stewart Cink, hall of fame Judy Rankin, Kevin Streelman (very strong and fader) Thomas Pieters (solid strong) Kevin McCarthy (very strong)
I am amazed at the effortless power in Sav’s swing. I’m coming from the traditional mechanical setup and angles with a strong grip, but I struggle with solid consistent contact and speed/power. What are the speed producers in your swing method? Do you believe in the squat and post up idea to torque the ground? My go to swing model is Adam Scott. My swing looks similar but lacks speed/power. Can I keep that form and achieve power using your method or do I need to overhaul my entire swing. No disrespect intended, but your swing seems very upright and kind of “windmillish.” Thanks for your help!
upright and windmillish is exactly right and PROUD OF IT, just like Jack Nicklaus and Bubba Watson, 2 of the most powerful players in history! We get you there without thinking however. If you went to the premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com you would want to see these videos in this order: Lead hand release-lead hand release in the backswing-trail hand release-trail hand release in the backswing-TURBO CHARGE LEAD HAND RELEASE-TURBO CHARGE TRAIL HAND RELEASE-feet together drill-feet together back to feet apart-pumping up the swing-pumping up the volume-the throwing series- start with that and see how you do!
What is super important to understand is that you have a GRIP-CLUB RELATIONSHIP; the club face is just one part and the grip is the other 50%; they are tied at the hip! Closed face and neutral grip is the same as a square face and strong grip dynamically; she has a super strong grip with a slightly open club face to target line but square to the path and the arc; it looks open at address but it’s not. When she lets the swing go in the direction she wants to start the ball, the ball draws and that is because her grip is strong enough to begin with.
of course! you saw the flight didn’t you? started left of target and drew to the target. So many players on tour look like they have an over the top swing and hit draw with an inside out path on demand! Scotty Scheffler anyone?😝
The hands and arms have a very specific release pattern in all sports! Baseball hitting, hockey wrist shot, tennis serve etc…see “release shawn clement”
I understand the concept and agree, but how do you go from a fairly neutral grip to a strong one without the impending severe hook? Re-training your timing?
See “at the ball vs through the ball shawn clement” If you deliver AT THE BALL, you will close the face prematurely and hook; but if you deliver the action AT THE TARGET, where you want the ball to go, then you swing through the ball and the face closes later on!
I couldn't find a video entitled "Why your swing is so under powered". Could you please link it? Also, if we are using the strong grip demonstrated in the video, how the the club face be set at address? Square, opened, closed? Thanks
Hey Alex; I understand how the golf industry can have you brainwashed with the “must be like this” and the “be careful about that” and it’s much simpler than that: see “hit a honkin’ draw to hit straight shawn clement” and btw, you did find the underpowered video since you left a comment on it!😝😝 Everyone is different for how closed it should be; you simply deliver your task to target and see how it flies; then when you see a pattern, you make adjustments according to YOUR NEEDS.
Yes, she plays on the same tees as me and in the last round is outdriving my best by 5 to 10 yards consistently and hitting the same irons into the greens! 👍💪👊👌🫶
This looks good, only things is,if you don't hit a square shot,I could imagine a lot of push hooks. Controlling club face could be a nightmare . But yes, I will try next year 23. 👍
Priority 1-deliver to target Then adjust grip and club face so that it flies in the air the way you want to when you deliver in the direction you want to start the ball. We are adaptation machines! See “hit a honkin’ draw to hit straight shawn clement”
Hey guys - i totally understanding the setup and the main task of heading towards the target- i still find on occasion i hit behind the ball - please advise. warm regards Rodney
Hey Rodney! Man, we have so many videos to help you with that; a great tip is to search “hit ball first then ground shawn clement” or “take better divots shawn clement” or compress through the ball shawn clement” or “solid contact shawn clement” or “solid irons shawn clement” and you will be off to the races!
Honest question…You don’t think this makes you too wristy/handsy? Seems like the clubface would move a ton (all the way open to all the way closed through a small area at impact). I’m not a great golfer (8 handicap) so I am trying to learn more, scared to lose control(my strength in golf), but would love the power(my weakness). Been cutting those dandelions for years! Great info!
Hey Joel! Your human anatomy has a built in memory around all joints; there is a limited range of motion in all of them for a reason😝So you don’t fall around and slither like a snake all over the place. So once your grip is in place and you deliver your dandelion stem with full abandon in the direction you want to start the ball, just observe the flight! If you see a pattern of too much curving left or curving right, make the adjustment in the grip and club face (the grip is round for that reason) and then back to the task to target you go until you like what you see and just continue to get good and that task with freedom and abandon! The glue that golds it all together is the DIRECTION YOU SEND THE STEM OF DANDELION MUST BE STAYED WITH TO THE FINISH!!
Milo Lines is another RU-vid instructor that uses the baseball analogy and a strong grip, but advises a lot of rotation ie “swing around the corner” and has so much side bend with shoulder tilt. You and Sav’s swings are very upright with very little shoulder tilt. Do both methods work the same?
The question is, which one allows you to deliver through the ball and into the target with ease and efficiency the best? We are very confident in ours! 👍👌💪👊
1:00 and the acid test is the support at the top of the backswing! See all the lead hand videos on this like “stop destroying your golf glove shawn clement” and “how to sole your golf club properly shawn clement” and “fencing for power shawn clement” and “lead hand dominant shawn clement” SO MANY!!
It is more like a “grip-club” relationship; can have square face and very strong grip- closed face neutral-closed face strong like Ryan Fox and Ryan Moore; what ever it takes to get the ball to do what you want in the air when you release in that direction!
Hi Shawn, I have a strong grip ... which is causing the occasional miss to the left... hook and pull... driver in particular is very inconsistent because if. You are presenting an even stronger grip here in vid. How do you ensure hooks/pulls dont happen?
So many golfers are stuck HITTING AT THE BALL which causes a premature release of the club and causes hooks. We collect the ball from where it lies and we release the ball into the direction we want to start it and thus we deliver THROUGH THE BALL instead of “at” the ball. You want to confirm that you are through the ball first and then if you see a pattern of hooks, then your grip is too strong. Our premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com has these titles to help: -target confirmation series -stick your finish despite the ball series -unstoppable momentum series -throw the club series -kinetic chain facilitation series -The goldie-locks series ALL THROUGH FOCUSED WHILE PREDICTING THAT THE SET UP WILL TAKE CARE OF BALL CONTACT AND DIRECTION OF FLIGHT AND CURVATURE IN THE AIR
Love the content and the teachings…. Can you do a video and focus in slow motion the follow through after impact ? I’m a very visual learner and I need to see how the hands follow through after impact. I understand “throwing” the hands or club towards the target but I’m struggling with over rotating my hands and being too “ floppy”
Hey Nick! we did a whole series of videos with my swings in slow motion for both hitting shots and performing our all important tasks! See www.wisdomingolfpremium.com
How do you suggest taking your natural grip in the most effective and repeatable way? I think i understand the concept but everytime i try and take this grip i find i tend to grip it and the face is always slightly open. Is there a method that is best to achieve it every time?
Hi shawn Peter here from little one England. Great content. I've adopted the set up closing the face with driver not reaching for the ball then drop my shoulder to square clubface to target. But not getting much more than 220 yds. Irons straight also but 140 with 7 iron. There's something I'm not doing I know but can't put my finger on it. Any ideas would be appreciated. Peter
See all the “throwing the club shawn clement” videos and get to an open and safe field with some old steel shafted clubs and have a chuck fest!! Best thing you will ever do for your golf game!
OMG IM A SLICER BUT THAT STRONG GRIP IS SSSSOOOOOOOO FREAKIN UNCOMFORTABLE. savs palm on her left hand is like pointed almost to the sky i dont know if I could ever get comfy with that kind of grip
I don’t teach this grip to everyone; and it is not for everyone; that is HER GRIP, as well as dozens more on tour. Yours can be somewhere between neutral and that
See “predict solid contact and direction shawn clement” and “how to put the ball in the way of your swing shawn clement” On our premium channel, it’s the “predict contact” and the “goldie locks series” videos as well as the “fade fine tuning” and “draw fine tuning” together with “target confirmation series” videos
Ciao Shawn, I am effectively trying to use a really strong grip with four visible knuckles. I have a question for clarification. Should the left arm remain straight in relation with the shaft or should the club create a 15/20 degree angle to the right of the left arm? In the first case, I feel that my latissimus dorsi and left deltoid become toned... in the second case, everything is relaxed and the left grip slides a little more on the fingers than the initial umbrella grip with the hands very forward. Which of the two approaches should I focus on and work on? Thank you.f
Just search “tilt and side bend shawn clement” on you tube! Lots of important videos on that and also see “most important video on grip ever shawn clement”
I have been experimenting with the strong grip you teach. Do you need to swing more in to out to prevent everything going left. Also, does this promote a shallower angle of attack?
Hi Glenn! See “delofting through proper tilt shawn clement” an oldie but goodie; we have average -5 angle of attack on irons and +5 average on driver and + or - 1 with fairway woods and hybrids. Simply put: we adapt the task to the shot required for maximum shot efficiency. THE STRONG GRIP, ADJUSTED TO EACH INDIVIDUAL, IS WHAT ALLOWS YOU TO MOVE THROUGH THE BALL AND I TO THE FLIGHT PLAN SEAMLESSLY to make the ball the PRECISE INTERSECTION on the way to the destination and not THE destination itself; which would be utter chaos and the mess the vast majority of golfers are in and the fuel added to this chaos is a numpty teaching neutral grip and square face and telling you to go deeper with the wrist bow…
Strong grip all the way! Once you get used to tilted spine at setup, you'll be nutting it!. The most under rated basic in golf. It eliminates early extension and automatically makes the thing armatures need, space.
6 months into into golf. After changing my grip to strong I won 15 yards! sending my 9i now to 110 Yards ! thank you!!!! I still have a push, I think if I solve this I can get 10 yards more, any idea??
Hey Chris! Get on our premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com and see “lead hand release”, “trail hand release”, “release fine tuning”, Snap release polish”, “turbo charge the lead hand and trail hand release” and “important release update” to seal the deal. Then you will have more than what you bargained for!
@@golflessons thanks Shawn, actually I video myself. I do have a strong grip and start the swing with hammer position, but when I hit the ball I'm back to neutral grip. Is it normal? Or you still need to be in a hammer position also when you hit the ball? Is at address the grip good but the body position wrong? I don't get it
@@Chris-mr8qm means you are fidgeting at address; re-gripping before you start the swing; after you grip, hover the club just slightly above the ground and do not let it rest on the ground and then deliver your swing to the direction of flight.
Not to take anything away from Sav or anyone, but just curious why her 7 iron in this video is spinning in the high 3ks to low 4ks, seems low even for the strong lofted distance irons. Is this normal?
Hi Layne! This is not a big deal as when she plays, she is reacting to the environment and when she hits a high fade, the ball lands like a butterfly with sore feet; spin goes up to 5500-6000. We were just hitting stock draws here.
Yes, correct! Everyone is different; has a different level of release and the best way to find that is through out “goldilocks series” after you have understood and mastered the art of LETTING your anatomy release with the “release series” and the “throwing series” on our premium channel.
@@golflessons I took a lesson at Pelican Hill yesterday before on course lesson. The instructor told me, he believes my right hand needs to be strong (like your daughters). I immediately thought of you. Because I watched this video. I never hit my long irons and driver so well. It was weird because I didn't have to do anything my my wrists at impact (at least not consciously) like a hammer swing. Very happy to report this to you. One year in and finally feel like I can T up and play golf. The driver was my worst club by far slicing nightmare no matter what. I should of took your advice long ago, but I really needed it shown in person. My right hand at the top feels so nice with this grip. Does your daughter have the same grip for wedges? I didn't like the right hand super strong for anything smaller than PW.
She carried that 7 iron 176 yards because she's got no spin on the ball. Only 3878 RPM with a 7 iron?!?! I want my ball to stop on the green. Her angle of attack is way too shallow which is a big contributing factor to the low spin.
@@s1dest3p see angle of descent; very high; this is what the new modern irons do; higher flight with lower spin; our greens are very soft and receptive here in Canada; so we want less spin.
@@golflessons You were the one that made the video, why would I ask Google?! I think "hard" was the right decision for the title, "Impossible", great for clicks but a little far fetched, dont you think??
@@chrisb594 Hey Chris, too exhausting to split hairs with you here bud; google is the only game in town (they own youtube in case you didn’t know) and they lay down the law and force us creators to be creative with the words we use to not become irrelevant. I wish you could even get a glimpse of what we go through to get our word across. Our mission is to help as many golfers as possible enjoy their games, not exchange money to make videos.
Sav is beautiful maybe she could wear a shirt with lighter colored sleeves and or shoulders so we could see the tilts a little more clearer. For people who have trouble seeing them
