The problem is newer trucks have so many emissions issues that down time and repairs costs even it out

My new Volvo 2023 with a turbo compound on dash 8.9 all miles 2.44 gear ratio I built it to run at 75 mph at 12.5 RPM . Fuel savings is everything but also you get to write it off and save on taxes ! Plus savings on maintenance and downtime a week you don’t work a week you don’t make money .

Moving variable costs, fuel in this example,.to a fixed cost of payments, should increase your return as it increases your risk. You gotta pay a payment whether you are trucking or not. Fuel only as you use it. Your mitigation of risk is that the payment truck is always running. For you, that's a good bet. For other drivers, maybe not.

Pre emission trucks are far superior when you factor the down time on newer trucks and those 2 hours investigations by those specialists in shops…just to hook a laptop 😂😂😂😂 Then comes the parts and expenses and DEF and so much involved in longer terms….. A pre emission truck can be fix just about anywhere…including in your driveway….if or when might brake down…usually not 😂😂😂😂. No DEF, No Special mechanics Nothing or nobody special etc And you can still average above 7 miles per gallon with nothing special…just average day. A Detroit 12.7 built before 2003 will usually give you easily a good 7.2-7.8 without anything SPECIAL….that is the beauty of a good old truck. N14 will offer almost identical…sometimes even better…and could run I heard 2 million miles before rebuild…not the same story with Detroit… Older CAT will pull the best and will beat everything in his class….but not that great in fuel saving and more money for repairs…still they are the best engine ever for power…like 3406 B C or even better E Just a turbo and few emissions parts in your truck will burn all your savings for the entire year😂😂😂😂

You can improve your aerodynamic by closing the gap between your tractor/trailer, add aero to the too of your cab, also add aero to your trailer like sides and tail as well. Use low rolling resistant drive tires to improve your mpg. Use fuel additive like EDT from Hot Shots Secret or 5007 power klenz to also improve your mpg. Avoid idling, and lastly lower your speeds. I would personally start with that because trust me you don’t want to finance now because interest rates are insanely high no matter how good your credit. I have great credit and I have no problem showing you my equipment payments. I promise you you’ll change your mind about financing now because I pay mortgage payment on interest every month.

Nice job on the 7.4 mpg in the W900 and well into the 8's on the 579. I've found in my cars I can get about 20% better fuel economy if I drove only 60 mph on the highway versus 75. A 20% difference in your truck would be near 6 mpg, which is a huge savings if you can do 7.4 mpg. Imagine the 579 if you drove it that slow.... I've always wanted to play the mpg game with a semi truck if I got bored with my desk job.

Fuel mileage is subjective for the fact if you run heavy all the time 80k and pull a lot of hills you won't get 7, 8 mpg even with and aero truck from what I've seen, and if you run empty alot that changes things and different types of trailers. The only way you can compare your mileage with the next guy is to have the exact same equipment and driving habits loaded miles same terrain so forth. Otherwise, in my opinion, you're beating a dead horse kinda like the correct oil topic 🙄

Everybody can have a good week or month. Also everybody lies including you. Only thing that I’ll accept is year over year IFTA. Not ur bs half loaded trip that one time.
@Roger_Rabbit_Adventures
@Roger_Rabbit_Adventures 3 месяца назад
Can agree with that, IFTA includes it all, idle time & everything. Last quarter my IFTA was 7.5mpg in a 2007 Volvo 780. It has the 2006 EPA engine w/EGR only -even though I don't like that
@vroor32

@@Roger_Rabbit_Adventures 100% agree with both y'all. My 99 12.7L gets 7.2 IFTA and I don't idle at all. Luckily I have 18spd and use both pyro & boost gauges to influence my driving behavior. All these other stuff is just fluff, so I'll stick to my tried, tested & true old iron

You’ve really got to factor a lot of things in for a hood. Be established in trucking, (meaning, don’t start out with one) ,low home bills, low trucking expenses such as payments and low trailer payments. My w9 was $1145 per month and trailer was $321. Granted I had it on a 7 year note for lower payments. I did pay it off early but it was low in case I had to crunch. $1145 is a heck of a lot easier to come up with fast vs. $3000+ 😎 I was in a T660 for over 3 years before I went to a w9. Just set yourself up well if you go with it 👊

9mpg is nuts on your truck engine is not accurate...more likely 7.5 - 8 when not on a heavy load, but sure it's greater than any old truck, a KW, etc

Have you ever had a conversation with Terry (rawze) about driving a cummins motor? Mr. haggai can put you in touch if not. 1650rpm is the sweet spot to get better fuel mileage and shifting higher too. I do 8 axle (32 Wheels) heavy haul in Michigan, lots of hills (600-900ft elevation change) - liquid sludge - 30K lb trailer, 11,000 gallons-13000 gallons product = 130,000 trailer weight, 2007 W9 aero with isx 15 cm870. 45K miles on fresh inframe and I've replaced everything new on the truck except the transmission, has a proper 600hp tune and no egr. 1.4 million on the truck. Total weight is 160,000 lbs I pull locally 20-60 miles runs loaded. Pulling empty 30K lh trailer back with 8 axles and I am averaging 4.7-5.3 mpg , longer runs more highway miles. I try not to get below 1600 and if I do I upshift to run it at 1800-20000. 3.55 gears, 18 speed. 1500 and lower is lugging a cumming motor, it's not a cat or detroit. I said all this to say you could be getting 7.5 out of the W9 with those little loads :) I used to drive 1300-1600 rpm (3.5-4mpg then) until he educated me for hours, that guy is a wealth of knowledge you've never heard before. He's an engineer and when I changed my driving style it really worked. I know I increase mpg as the motor breaks in but a co-contractor with a 2022 w9, no tune and drives no higher than 1700 rpm is getting 3.5-4 right now. Manufacturers will never tell you anything to your advantage because they need you to buy buy buy again. 10-12 with a new aero truck should be achievable even with PA like mountains, sticks only, auto's will always get lower because they don't let you rev high..

@@MakeCentsTrucking I'ver learned more from that guy in the 5 hrs I've spoken with him then I did in some of me engineering classes in college. I've followed his knowledge and it's been everything he's said. I'm learning how to tune these motors now because of him. I'd give it a try and see if it works for you too. The first question he asked me was, "who told you these are low rpm driver motors? " I had no answer.

This is faulty as heck. Most truckers don’t get close to 120,000 miles a year. Most guys take time off, take vacation along with the occasional breakdowns that absolutely happen. Most drivers are between 80-105k miles a year. Stop exaggerating numbers

So everyone bought new trucks and decided to operate for a cheaper price than. So now you have a new truck and istead of making more money you just kept the same money as before and passed the savings onto the shipper and broker. Correct?
