Omg! Yes! My last job last year ended and I was looking before the job closed and i did and I only applied to two jobs and the last year and one didn’t reply back or I got an interview and didn’t get the job. Now am I financially stable? yes because I do get disability benefits. Plus I would be looking for a part time anyways because I don’t want to lose my benefits just in case. Plus I had bad experiences at my last job so that’s probably a factor why I am not actively looking. I am more happy unemployed then I was employed.

There are SO MANY fake job listings right now - and there are so many repeat job listings. Positions posted by the company, and then reposted by temp agencies trying to fill those roles. I've been searching since Sept 2023 (layoff) and its been rough and every day I have to give myself similar pep talks. This video is extremely well-timed, thank you.

I’ve noticed the same here in Ireland. Same jobs posted over and over. Wasted my time over weeks prepping for hours for 5 rounds of interviews. 2 rounds were business cases. By the 5th one I was exhausted. Glad I was rejected. Rather than being disappointed I am now glad about every rejection, always feels like I dodged a bullet.

I lost my executive job end of 2022...As of today I'm 110 applications done, 3 interviews, 1 unacceptable offer. Ran into many junk jobs, scams, and sales pitches for career courses on some of these applications done. I'm 50, so its even harder for us as we're looked at as "untrainable" or over qualified. We had to sell our home and now live in an RV. Just know GenX like me some of us are hurting too, it's not all Millennials and Gen Z. This isn't my first experience of this, I was laid off in 2008, and now going through it all over again. After all these years I am finding most careers and corporate life and its fickle culture unfulfilling. It seems I have always been sacrificing for someone else to benefit, now I feel like it needs to be my turn.

Fellow gen x here. Had an amazing career in Finance and was lucky to survive 2008. I took a break after I had my daughter. I still worked (for free) helping out my husband’s family‘s business and now juggle two freelance jobs (barely- adding up to anything). Despite 15 years of work experience, I have only gotten entry level interviews paying little over the minimum wage. After 3-5 rounds of interviews, successful assessments and case studies I’ve never received an offer since I started trying last year. Also, with minimum wage and my two side jobs I still can’t afford rent in Dublin. I’ve been considering an RV, too. All the best to you!

I am in my 40's, have been layed off 5 times in my career so far. The crazy thing is that this time is much much much difficult to find a job that matches my level or even lower level. 1. too much fake job posting 2. the video interview span for 4-6 weeks too long and really stressful , anyone think i am old (40) will say no and no result.

First off, let's debunk the myth that being jobless means lazing around in pajamas until noon. Sure, there might be a Netflix binge or two (because who can resist a good series?), but most folks I know hit the ground running. It's not just about browsing job boards anymore; it's about crafting the perfect resume, tailoring cover letters, and practicing for interviews like you're prepping for the Super Bowl halftime show. And let's talk about time management-it becomes this delicate dance between applying for jobs, networking like a pro, and maybe squeezing in a shower somewhere (because first impressions still count, right?). There's this constant juggle between staying motivated and not burning out. It's a full-time gig with overtime potential, minus the paycheck. Plus, the emotional rollercoaster is real. One day you're high-fiving yourself for acing an interview, and the next you're hitting "refresh" on your inbox, hoping for a response that never comes. Rejection letters become a twisted form of email sport-how many can you collect in a week? And let's not forget the unsolicited advice from well-meaning friends and family. "Have you tried LinkedIn?" Yes, Karen, I've tried LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, carrier pigeons-any method short of smoke signals. It's a jungle out there. Now, don't get me wrong; there are moments of hope and even humor amidst the chaos. You discover hidden talents like negotiating with bill collectors or turning leftover spaghetti into five-star cuisine. And every rejection letter is a badge of resilience, reminding you that you're one step closer to that dream job. But here's the kicker: to sustain this hustle, you need the financial fortitude of a champion. Savings aren't just for rainy days; they're for thunderstorms, hurricanes, and the occasional economic downturn. Because let's face it, job hunting without a safety net is like tightrope walking without a safety harness-possible, but nerve-wracking. So, the next time someone asks what you're up to and you say "job hunting," don't let them brush it off as a leisurely pastime. It's a full-blown adventure, complete with highs, lows, and the occasional cliffhanger. And if you're doing it with grace and determination, pat yourself on the back-you're already winning.

Described it better than I ever could. One can't possibly understand this unless they've experienced it themselves. It's easy to judge others for bearing the 'unemployed' label and blame them for the position they're in but the truth is that I highly doubt a great deal of unemployed individuals did anything to deserve this safe for existing in a system that treats humans like another commodity to either keep or discard. The emotional weight of all of this is tormenting. Every action, every step forward feels futile. It's like a big test of one's self identity, confidence, skills and distress tolerance. I wish everyone good luck and a great life. You are not your job or what you earn, there is beauty in everything.

when times are hard, and the longer you are on the job market, you will certainly feel desperate to get any job. I did the same, I was impatient and accepted a job I thought would be easy bc I just wanted to be employed. But only THREE days into the job I realised what a completely wrong fit it was and I knew I'd be miserable if I kept up with it. I had to quit and then it was back in the unemployment arena. It's been almost 9 months but I'm def more picky and want to get a job that won't mentally wreck me. I'm one of the lucky ones that I can wait and be unemployed for a longer period, but if you're in a tight spot and need any job, I hope that you find something good!

I totally relate to this! I took a job that seemed great on paper, but definitely had red flags that I brushed off. I was soo desperate to get out of my unemployment hole, but long story short, the job was not a fit and took a huge toll on my mental (and even physical) health. It's scary to take a risk to leave a job considering not only this terrible job market, but also starting over again in your search. BUT because of that experience, I am too being picky/selective and extremely cautious of red flags! I'm now protective over my mental health and work-life balance, as everyone should be. I'm so proud of you prioritizing yourself and wellbeing! Thank you for sharing your experience and sending love your way!

I did that also, unemployment ran out after a contract job ended and I was desperate, so I accepted a customer service position. I applied for an accounting position and a recruiter reached out and asked if would interview for customer service in the same company, 100% remote, and I could apply for other positions after six months. I knew it would be longer than six months but that was fine, so I accepted the position. Now two years later I find out that customer service management doesn’t let their employees move to other departments, and will do anything to keep them, including sabotaging them by bad mouthing them, and placing them into ‘performance management.’ Being remote I didn’t know about this, I saw reviews on Indeed and Glassdoor from employees who had experienced it. I’ve never seen this before, I’m over it all, done with the drama, so I decided to retire next year and am counting down! I’ll be preparing all year so I’m ready.

I graduated last December and still haven't been able to get my foot through the door. Thankfully, I have a support system to where I dont have to immediately find just anything, but it is just extremely discouraging not being able to start living the life I want to live and the constant anxiety of the longer I'm unemployed the harder it will be to find something. Not to mention comparing myself to friends who are doing better. I am of course so happy for them and proud, but I also can't help but feel left behind. Just the other day I had a huge breakdown home alone because I'm on month 4 and just feel helpless. This video was very peaceful. Though our situations aren't exactly same, it was still very relatable 🩷. Thank you 💕✨️!

I've been there! It's scary to feel left behind or even starting over in your career. But your time will come! I'm 100% sure of it. There's soo much self discovery and lessons to be learned during a job search/unemployment. This time is perfect to reflect on what makes you you, and what brings you joy, career aside. And as someone who struggles with imposter syndrome, one of my favorite quotes is "comparison is the thief of joy". Keep focusing on and appreciating YOU. I'm rooting for you

I got fired in September 2022 from a 7 year banking career. At this point I had been studying computer science part time at a local institute of technology for almost 2 years. So I doubled up on the course load and amassed a tremendous amount of knowledge. I also worked out every morning, ate healthy, and blocked off time during the day to apply for jobs. Completing multiple CS programs built up my confidence because I obtained new software development skills and knowledge, even if I was unemployed. The software developer job market right now is hard, but objectively speaking, I am more valuable than I was before because I now have more tradeable and marketable hard and soft skills.

I struggle with this still, but it always helped a bit to know that your time will come and if you keep your head up, keep putting in the time to apply for jobs, you'll get there. One thing, depending where and how you're applying, is that sometimes recruiters will use a screening tool before they look at resumes... if you REALLY like a job you're applying for, take the extra time to edit your resume to include words in the job posting/description. Often, it helps get your resume seen and short listed. Good luck!!!

I’m retiring next year at 62, my work life has been a journey, I was with a company for 17 years, began entry level moved up over the years, got my Business degree and Project Management certified, then I was laid off. Talk about losing your identity, I felt so lost and undecided on what to do, and where to go. I worked a few jobs, meanwhile my old company called me back as contract, worked that for two years and saw my company had become a shell of what it once was. So many people were laid off or had quit. The corporate world has changed so much, for the worst, glad I’ll be putting it behind me. Good video.

Such a helpful video. The job market right now is so bad. I'm in Toronto, Canada, and have been looking to find a job for months with very little luck. I remember just a few years ago (when I had even less experience), it was SO much easier, or you could at least actually get interviews back then!! It's crickets right now. Yes I do hope there's a shift soon, although on the bright side, with the time being unemployed it 's helped me begin a new side hustle and I'm so grateful for it, because now it's actually starting to pay off (and cover my rent). There really are so many lessons to be learnt being unemployed. Subbed :)

Toronto's job market is in dire straights right now, unemployment 7.2% and climbing. Most job postings are fake, and many lower level positions are going to the hordes of "new immigrants" being brought in. I wish you the best of luck.

When I’m working class and barely any savings. I’ve been urgently looking for a job due to bills. The only good thing is I’m with my family but even my family don’t make much either. I feel like not panicking means it’s a privilege, you may have plenty of savings and it’s easy to take the mind off of things. I help my family out and I want to make sure I have a job to support my family out. I did try to keep myself distracted by learning to code or watching tutorials.

Going on month 4 of being unemployment and I have never been in a more unstable situation, mental health at an all time low and no matter what I’ve tried there just seem to be no way out although have been going above and beyond to get even just a zero hour job to be able to pay the bills…and I’m so tired. But watching this made me feel a little bit less alone and actually motivated to look after myself more. Especially detaching my worth from my job situation is soo important. 🙏

I feel you! It's hard not to be hard on yourself when it feels like it's your fault, I've applied to over 70 jobs, only got a callback from 3 and just 1 interview, that I had today and I passed the next round! I feel so grateful becaus I have learned so much during the months that I've been out of a job and in all honestly I kinda needed the break, one of the hardest parts is to not feel guilty because I was relieved(? like huh that's weird, but honestly I'm excited because this position is a substancial salary increase for me and I have weeded out of offers that are not as good solely because I'm desperate. Also I'm fortunate enough that I can live with my parents because heaven knows what would be of me if not, fortunately latino parents always want you in their house so it's not expected to move, so I can actually save up if (when) I get this new job and create financial security for myself, so I am grateful.

this video brought me so much comfort as someone who got laid off a few months ago❤ I've been getting desperate to take any job at this point, and its infuriating how I've been ghosted, rejected, and a few times got an offer thats "unpaid", as someone who has had 4+ years of specialized experience in tech, I thought it wouldn't be so hard but it has been. since my situation at home isn't great, I'm just being so hard on myself, that I CRY everyday, this video came on my feed after I literally had a headache from crying so much, I just want to live on my own and have a job but its been hard to say the least, but watching this video I felt a sigh of relief, this was really validating and something I needed today so thank you, and good luck for all of us job searching, I hope whatever is best aligns soon ❤

I'm also on my third time being unemployed and I'm also 30. I have found this time around to be much harder than previous times and that is with getting more job interviews than ever before. I am fully aware that getting 1st or 2nd job interviews is better than others who are getting ignored. But it is also harder because you get more hope that this will be the one that likes you and you can start earning again. I've been unemployed for 7 months now, and if I hadn't done any job applications and just focused on learning new skills (work or hobbies) I would have way more to show for it than I have had with applying for jobs. I'm thinking of changing careers, I'm looking at apprenticeships just so I can get experience but I know I do not like merely working in digital space as in emails, I need to be physically doing tasks, not just organising. Any carpenters, manufacturing people, upholsters, horticulturists, lab technicians about to offer help, or advise to someone looking to change but with no idea where to start.

I don’t understand all these job postings now with incomplete details, like why? That’s a MUST for everyone’s sake! If the job posting has complete details, then the right candidates would apply and the hiring managers will save their time from scanning all the applicants only to find out that they do not meet the requirements they are looking for. Same goes with the candidates, they would apply thinking that they have a chance on that job only to get an instant reply that the company choose someone who closely met all the requirements. And then there’s this “entry level” and “open for fresh graduates” but prefers candidates who have at least 1 year of experience!

I recently found myself in a tough spot after getting laid off about a month ago. But I hustled hard and managed to snag a job within just 3.5 weeks, and get this-it's with one of the top 200 companies in the world! Here's how I did it, alongside the usual online applications (I am based in Melbourne Australia). I was no stranger to rejection-I must've applied to over 480 jobs. But I knew I had to do more than just submit resumes online. So, every day from Monday to Friday, I hit the pavement, knocking on doors at 8 to 12 companies. Of course, there's an art to it. Mondays, though? I learned the hard way not to bother anyone before 10:30 am. They're either in meetings or gearing up for the week. From 10:30 to 11:45 am, though, that's prime time for morning visits. Lunchtime? A no-go zone from 12 to 2 pm. People gotta eat, right? Afternoons pick up again from 2:30 to 4:30 pm-people are more receptive when they're not rushing to head home. Tuesdays to Thursdays? Pretty much the same deal: mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 am and afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. I found people are generally more open to chats during these times. Fridays, though, folks are itching to start their weekend early. After 4 pm, it's best not to bother them-they're mentally checked out. It took some trial and error, but this strategy paid off big time. Meeting people face-to-face, showing my enthusiasm, and being respectful of their time-it made all the difference. So, if you find yourself job hunting, don't underestimate the power of pounding the pavement. You might just land your dream job like I did!

I don't think Biden (or any politician anywhere around the world) has anything to do with the struggle of finding a job. We just live in a post-pandemic timeline, where global economy sufferred greatly, resulting in layoffs and job scarcity. And to really drive it home, getting a job nowadays is a lot like trying to pitch your mixtape, with your own brand name, rather than formally expressing your interest in candidacy. Sadly, the days of shoving a CV/Resume on the table are over to a degree. It is a shit reality we live in, but you can do it, I can do it, everyone else can. *EDIT* just for a record, I'm not American, but I do think both Republicans and Democrats are awful, and the country is in need of something new
