When you realize that things never get easier, you just get stronger, that’s when you become an adult. Great loss teaches you this. You never get over that loss, it never gets easier to feel, you begin to learn how to deal with it.
Its a great thing to remember. Things dont get easier you get better it just takes effort. Were all bad when we start but we learn and we grow things in life will sometimes feel like its too difficult to get through but its how we survive that makes us who we are.
@@subutai8458 Sometimes in life, things do get easier, or safer or predictable, but then you get bored and instead of being happy, you become more miserable than you were when things were tough...
I’m sorry but this isn’t really that deep, it’s the most surface level philosophy possible. It’s not wrong, but it’s been said a million times by a million different people
@@seth8580 same as your needless reply. Difference is his statement isn't something I expected from Mr.Carr but I always expect replies from the Karens like yours.
@@FeralRabbit Jimmy Carr went to Cambridge bro, he’s a smart guy. He’s always been like this out of interviews. The problem is that it’s extremely easy to say “money doesn’t matter” or “having things doesn’t make you happy” when you have a shit tonne of it already. I do like him as a comedian but hearing this from someone as privileged as Jimmy Carr makes it ring hollow. He’s just speaking in empty platitudes really so I don’t know why the comments are praising him so heavily.
@@seth8580 seeing as I know nothing of his BG except that he is comedian I find it strange that a stranger would be so bothered by someone receiving a compliment. It's as if you're lacking something or broken inside. Did he pick on you as a child or heckle you?
@@FeralRabbit It’s not that I just don’t like the idea of celebrities being showered with praise just for acting like human beings. I’m pretty sure this interview is promoting a book he wrote, he’s literally trying to sell you something while saying this stuff.
Most comedians have a decent understanding of psychology, and are very good at articulating it. You have to be good at this to be funny in the first place, you have to understand what makes people want to laugh.
It's not recent, Jimmy has always been exceptionally intelligent. You just don't see it frequently because his onstage comic persona is all most people see.
Yeah, but "you don't get self-esteem from the six-pack you get at the gym, you get it from being the kind of person who goes to the gym every day" So it's actually about the person you were before you started the journey.
Partly true, he is narrowing it down to just the money aspect. You can have a trust fund and still have a strong, interesting and resilient character. How? Illness for instance, going through health issues is probably one of the most illuminating ways of discovering who you truly are.
It reminded of one of the greatest quotes I have ever read: “And once the storm is over you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” Kafka on the shore
I’ve actually been through a pretty rough storm in a small boat in the gulf of Alaska. I can really relate to this quote. It quite literally changed me as a human.
Jimmy is awesome.. Love him or hate him he is smart & when he is serious its worth listening to.. Comedians have that way of thinking through observation..
Damn. Jimmy, dude is alot more thoughtful than I imagined. I do think it’s fun to have money, not for buying things…but having experiences and helping to lighten the load on those around. That being said, the gym analogy is spot on.
Profoundly true... We forget It's not journey, nor the destination... but who you become as you participate. When I was working on my Master's Degree in Computer Science, my thesis advisor asked me what was the product of my research and work... I answered a lot of things, but he then said while that might be all true, the biggest result is that you are the product of the work you're doing. That was 1992, I learned more than what I was researching... I learned a truth about life.
Not true. Very, very few comedians are actually intelligent. Jimmy Carr being one, George Carlin being another and few more. Emphasis on the word 'few' and not many
It’s so interesting to see the facial expressions and voice of a comedian who isn’t behind a microphone. Like all entertainers, they are actors, playing a part.
@@broadbandtogod Poor analogy, it would be more on topic to point out the fact the games you enjoy playing wouldn't be fun, interesting, or even memorable if the game started with 100% completion/platinum trophy etc... It's the progress that compels you, not the final outcome of the progress (in a game or life).
@@broadbandtogodyour analogy is poor. Why don’t you get them the game then complete all the levels then hand to them, so they have all the loot and max characters. They won’t love that, that’s this whole video is about. Games are a great example of this, you find things hard but if you love it enough you will try over and over and over again till you win.
@@broadbandtogodfor a lot of games this isn’t even far from the truth. Some games are just that good but many times if you really want a game that has been teased. The immediate joy of getting it is often a higher high than how you will feel throughout the game
So true, I coveted an AMG GTS as my dream car. I saved, worked overtime, took on extra responsibilities at work. Finally I bought the car. It’s an amazing car, but 6 months later I look at it on the drive, nothings changed and my life hasn’t gotten any better. It just showed me how motivated I can be when I want something. I should apply that process to more meaningful things.
Apply that process to whatever you want. What makes you say you "should" apply that process to more "meaningful" things? What makes you happy? What do you think is good and what do you want to do? If it's meaningful to you, or if it's meaningful to someone else, then it's meaningful enough.
@@gunyukwunnyand that easily leads you to vanity. If you only think about what's meaningful to you then you'll fall into the pit of self centeredness. True meaning lies beyond ourselves...
it's not even philosophy we need. You need to work on our ability to reflect on ourselves. We have forgotten to do it, or more precisely, we forgot it on purpose because it's uncomfortable. That discomfort, that's the price you pay for your greatest moments. There's only one person you should aim at exceeding. Yourself. You'll never succeed but you can become more than you can imagine.
Waking up more and more every day, I love it. I love my life. I love who I am. It’s the first time in a long time that I actually said those words I love me.
Seeing these type of comments are so amazing for me. Seeing people that love themselves. That's why i created this channel to help people to love themselves. Thanks for the comment man
Brilliant. “Comedians” are geniuses that disguise themselves as an average person to make the rest of us feel like we’re hanging out with someone like our self.
The difference between an intelligent person and an idiot is that an intelligent person realizes that by saying the same thing in different ways they'll get a different response 🙏🏻
I’ve met very rich people in my life and they were very happy. Happier than me in any case. Even though they had been born rich. They were not tortured and they were not miserable.
@@elg7365 I'm going to agree. Everyone has some kind of struggle. He talks about trust fund kid inherits money. What if that kid inherited it because his whole family is dead and he's alone. I do agree with him, but he doesn't expand his own thesis to it's full extent.
Good comedians have a very good handle on how things really are, because they have their fingers on the pulse of society. Generally, they are extremely skilled at honest, often brutal, assessment and articulating what it is they see and feel. We should probably pay attention,
So true!! I've always appreciated the old idiom "It's the journey not the destination". This is true because of the way we experience life. Every experience has polar opposites like "up and down" or "left and right". Each of those polar opposites exist because of each other. You can't experience "up" without it's relation to "down". You can't experience "left" without automatically acknowledging "right". The same goes for "love and fear" or "life and death". And in this video it shows overcoming struggle to achieve success. Without the experience of struggle the experience of success is impossible. Our level of appreciation is greatly increased when we overcome obstacles to our desires.
Since I've seen and listened to Jimmy do these type of podcasts - and realised how wise he is about Life - I really do think he should diversify and take up the baton and make more of this wisdom because he makes so much sense.
Being a trust fund kid might not induce happiness, but it certainly helps to prevent SO MANY of the miseries that those without go through. Keeping the wolves from the door is priority number one. 😊
@cyruslad5462 that is true to fact , and I hate it , but most of the wolf's hunting them are in their own head , and the sad fact is , most of the good inherited money people self destruct because they know what happened to achieve that wealth , and the bad ones go on being assholes , that's what the culture breeds
So true. If your really successful in life you'll never see it. That's the memory you leave for the one's who knew you. They will share the stories of why you were who you were
Well said Jimmy ... an incredibly good perspective and clearly articulated. Self - Assignment ... that's so true ... we have been given free will to enable self-assignment to grow who we are as human beings. Love it.
He's right about stuff. I never had stuff growing up but now with a bit of success I am so much more grateful than if I had it already. Also, in my 50's I am at the pinnacle of my abilities and talent in most categories. Never stop improving. Shed every day.
I've never met anyone truly happy and living in separation from Christ. The happiest, kindest, most genuine people I've ever met spend every day on a journey to persue Christ and love others.
