Like David Tobin mentioned, foam is to prevent it from being a total loss. A half submerged boat is easier to spot then a person bobbing in the water. Just gut it completely to the side walls and hull. You will have a clean slate at that point to create what you want. The stringers can be replaced with Aluminum Stringers like they use in Aluminum boats. You could also use the Aluminum Stringers from pontoon boats. Brad you are about to become good friends with the Marine Grade Epoxy Resin Products.
@@jerrodbuffington4929 .....it is all in perspective of the angle from which we view it from. Would I tackle such a chore ? Not in a million years. Brad is a content creator for RU-vid it is now a Tax Right off because it is directly related to his business. The video will generate viewers, viewed video generate traffic to him, that in turn adds up to revenue dollars for advertising. It is ripple effect for money to be made by all parties. Sponsors need people to show case their products, so viewers will buy said products. No better advertising than "my friend" had great success with that. Most of the tools can be rented out. The rental fee is tax deferment as a cost for running a business. Similar to doing a lease for work equipment instead of buying it out right with cash, tax charge off.
@@davidhudson190 i doubt those tools could be rented out.. still you make a great point im that it makes content for his channel. Im happy for him of that was the goal. My friendly advice would be to just buy a boat somewhat together already. Like there is a guy that takes small plain aluminum boats and does DIY custom work and makes them look and function awesome. I would recommend that over what Brad has gotten into on this project. This is such a specialized trade/skill to possess. If I wanted to see someone suffer I would definitly recommend trying to fix a rotten fiberglass boat. Between the trailer the motor and the other odd scrap metals he could probly get half or more of his money back. I wasn't trying to be an asshole.. I know a little about that stuff and that task is a huge thing to take on. Good luck either way.
@@BeardedBrad92 I tackled something very similar. Ground out the rotten transom on a 19' bass boat, same for the rotten stringers. Went back with Douglas fir plank for the stringers and Marine grade Douglas fir 3/4 plywood doubled for the transom. Glassed it all in. Transom looked like a table top when I was done (from the inside) LOT of work but the actual cost was around a grand for the materials.
Yes Sir, I’d takeout the bow to the transom all the way down to the hull. Start from shell out reenforce the transom and put a tiller drive on it. Leave it all open and ice chests for seating and live wells. Good luck man.👍
@@BeardedBrad92 that way you can put rod holders down the side and same a lot of room for two in the boat. With proper reenforcement you can put rod holders for trolling or set flatlines. You do what you want but I think you’ll enjoy more open floor plan. I’ll follow along on the journey of the ship “POS”.😜
Gonna be interesting to see what you find once you get it cleaned out. Maybe just some seats and paddles after you clean it out and use it like a canoe. Haha
Brad, Congratulations on your subscriber count! You may not know much about boats...... But you will after this project. As I tell my kids. Education is expensive. The lessons that cost the most or cause the most pain will be the lessons we remember.
Ha Brad . Generally speaking chopper gun built boats from that era have the hull stringers captured in fiberglass cloth and resin . If the fiberglass was not damaged your stringers will be in good condition . Marine grade plywood ( expensive ) and lots of caulking will make you a nice floor .Pull the old flotation crap out and replace with block foam to fit . Been there done that . Basic wiring system with a pull start engine will make your life a lot simpler . Good luck ..
That foam will come out with a some 40 grit sandpaper on a rotary or a wire wheel on a drill. Then vacuum it out. I have enough coosa and 1808 fiberglass to make your stringers. I made my floor out of divinycell but you can use R4 foam sheets from home depot and epoxy which will double as your flotation. Get one sheet of divinycell/coosa/marine plywood to make your bulkheads then you can use R4 for your deck cap. Great content btw.
I have an aluminum boat sort of in this condition I've been working on, getting all the wet foam out was not to bad but I do plan on redoing the foam after I redo the floor. Sealing all my rivets is next job but now its too cold to do that. Good luck all the rebuild.
Hi Brad I was worried that the stringers were totally rotted the foam was put there by the manufacturer to aid in flotation it will not be easy to remove be very careful not to damage the hull while removing the foam.
Make sure you take a very hard look at the transom too. With the floors being that rotten, the transom will probably need redone also. Good luck. Little boats like that are fun projects. I have done 2 similar to that one.
Mark your stringer locations with red or yellow lumber crayon on upper edge of interior walls. Then get rid of everything in side; foam rotten wood any wires. Once every thing is cleaned out pull strings at the floor level you want. Use card board to trace your stringers outline at the string locations. You have a lot of work ahead of you.
Bro. Clicked new video, see that you hit 20k subscribers! Way to get it my brother! I'm just starting out. Love all the videos and content. Also, love how the console was secure and attached very well to the floor 😂
@@BeardedBrad92 just because someone dis agrees and tries to advise an alternate path doesn't mean we(I) are being negative. I wish you the best either way.
Great Job Brad!!! Keep it up and you will still have a nice rebuilt boat that you can say, I built this boat myself, and be proud of what you've accomplished!!! Freddy really needs to get hands dirty next time. lol
Brad, looks like a cool project and an appropriate boat name...good luck. If that were my boat I would have gave you case of beer just to take it away.
Great to see the wreck become more of a wreck but once she is stripped down to bare Hull then you can make her your own and to suit your needs. You can add a live well, a tank for holding your catch and storage for kit.
Eugene was Freddy's bubba in prison! Lol ....And yeah send Freddy with Eugene out on the boat in the local pond. On a windy day with only one paddle lol
OMG! I've done a few boats but, never as bad as yours. Buddy and I will come over with tannerite, LR, and a GoPro to get you more likes than you can ever possibly get tryin to fish out of that tub. Love your channel brother!!!
Great to see some progress with the SS POS! Downer that it was worse than you thought though. I’m looking forward to the next instalment already! I’d love to see Freddy on the pond in it! Keep up the great work Brad and a massive congratulations on hitting 20K subscribers! Peace and love from the UK brother.
All that should disconnect from motor. If that guy comes back he'd probably want the steering and gear/throttle cables. Future reference. They're hard to come by
Talk about a missed opportunity. The answer was 250.00 when the guy asked how much for the boat. 50.00 profit would get us at least 2 Freddie challenges worth watching
Need a motor Brad? Do what I did. Check out marinas that do repair work. They usually have motors for a reasonable price used. Get the manual and you can do a lot of the main work yourself. I bought an aluminum boat years ago- cheap. Got out on the lake and it leaked out of every rivet in it!😂
I agree! Get rid of that folly and slap a coat of paint on the trailer, repack the hubs, etc. You should be able to get your money back (or most of it) and you come out of it with a free pair of shades...win-win!
I’m not laughing at you I’m laughing with you. I will say I think the comedic value and content you are getting out of the boat was worth the $200. The boat not half empty it’s half full Brad lol. Congrats on 20k
@@BeardedBrad92 just kidding. I hope everything turns out ok. Can not wait to see the finished product. If there is one . love your videos keep coming out with great content.
When you get to putting the new stringers in after getting the foam out you should coat the stringers and Tungoil really good and let them dry for about 72 hours before you do the install and that’ll help prevent more water damage
@@BeardedBrad92 Oh, I wasn't ragging on you. I really like what you're doing. Most of us don't have tens of thousands of dollars for a new boat. DIY is what most of us can hope for. I'm looking forward to watching the progress on this project.
Sorry for double comment. Don't know if wheel would actually turn motor, but look online. $300-$600 to replace. Someone may try to grease it up to try to get it working. Piece that connects it to motor worth money also. Throttle/gear control box and motor end connectors probably bring in fair money too.
@@BeardedBrad92 saw that.Ain't hating, learned hard way when threw a bunch of that studs away and then got free motor to put back and needed it all. Should have stole Brant'sbike to get back to you car
Its really simple.. you losen the stering from the motor and just pull everythig forward and its possible to fill the bottom with polyuretan foam then you cut it at the level you want the floor and just put fiberglass and polyester on top you need about 3 layers of 450g fiberglass for the floor if you do it that way. For further advise just ask.
@@BeardedBrad92 yes but you have to put a littie extra plastic on top to compensate, with strimgers and marinegrade plywood you only need one layer to seal.it
Congratulations on 20k Brad. I hope you are hungry. Make sure the transom is in good condition. I refloored my old boat and then found that the transom was rotten. I am going to make a fish structure in the lake where I live. Great video. You might get 50 for the motor.
My buddie was a great fisherman he had a 14 ft John boat and we filled the cooler almost Everytime. Guess what I'm saying is Bearded Brad is a awesome fisherman so as long as the boat floats and rolls down the water it will fill the freezer. These guys spend thousands on boats these days but it's the fisherman that really matters.
You should jack up the registration sticker and pull a new boat underneath it... lol... I get value of this as a youtube video series... but seriously.... toss the boat, refurbish the trailer and scope out a better hull to work on... maybe a sport boat that you cut the top off and turn into a fishing boat...
Congrats on 20k! Good luck on the ole SS POS! Look into Coosa board for your stringer and transom replacement, it's a little more pricey than wood, but you won't ever have to worry about rot again!
Oh, cool.... Hope it's just the floor and not the hull. Don't lose those screws or you'll find them with your tires. Looks like you need to gut it and start with a new floor.
boat should have a drain hole in the back....put the motor in the tilt up position and then lift the trailer tongue up to drain the water... if the drain is there and open it may take a while to drain and hopefully dry out the inside bottom of the boat good luck on the project
It's called work Brad dirt is part of the outdoor Life 😂 LMAO thanks for the update and just twist anything body's not too solid hey you quit picking on Freddy lol
If I had it I'd give it in a heartbeat but in the meantime anytime you want to come down and Port Orange I'd be more than happy to take you out anytime in my boat
Sorry about the rotten deck. Lots of work to do. Big question to ask, is it worth the time and money? Of course will continue to watch all your videos. Always enjoy them.
Hey Brad a good lighter, a half gallon of gas🔥🔥🔥and try again 😂 Since CMR and Brandt are in the market for another boat you ought to see if CMR would make you a deal on his boat
Aw man, next time you decide to demo lmk! I'll help ad I'm local lol. You actually probably could've sold the seats, console, steering wheel and helm, and the steering cable. All u had to do is undone the retainer on the other end of the cable and pull the retainer out, then spin the wheel and the cable walks itself right out of the helm lol. It was painful to watch but friggin funny
That's is what a total rebuild looks like! But hey in the real world of boats, which means bring one another thousand, you'll have lots of sweat equity before she's ready to fish. However and product you use dont use wood, theyve composite materials that won't rot. Take your time and do it right
redoing an old boat too....this a larson inboard boat......its a 4 cylinder but its about 4 ltrs in size so its huge....got mine gutted out too getting ready for interior....
brad....my boat interior from this guy that only does this for a living and nothing else......4000 dollars...my cuz tim dating this young lady in this nearby town where he is,I have him take 500 dollars now and then to him to pay for this...so far Ive got 2000 covered..got 2000 to go....LOL.....
Brad I hate to say it but I think Ron beat you on the cooking challenge just judging by how much of it he ate before he let Sarah try it. There is always next time. Lol
