💯 Right... There are some rare albums that don't have a bad song. Breakfast in America. Floyd and dark side. Fleetwood Mac rumours and to be fair tango too.. I would even go as far as songs from the big chair by tears for fears.. There's a few out there..
@@artcranston154 Rick Wakeman is a total ledge.. I know he's a Brentford fan and chairman. But he's got a soft spot for my team and newly crowned premier League champions Manchester city. Top bloke and genius .. And a mate of God.. Sorry..I meant Bowie..😁🙏
Supertramp did come out of that progressive rock stable but also incorporated jazz and a few other things. They were a really good group with some tremendous songs like this one.
This song is for every individual born Male or Female as it is about losing the innocence and Freedom we have as children and how that is stripped from us as we grow in a world that "TEACHES " us to be LOGICAL.
It makes me so sad that you had never heard of the genius that is Supertramp, but so happy that now you know and can jump into their amazing catalog. This is one of those bands that reactor after reactor discovers, and can't understand why they aren't better known.
I am a hard-core rocker through and through. Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Van Halen and ZZ Top are my favorites. However, although 1984, eliminator, Back in black and Led Zeppelin four are my favorite albums of all time, surprisingly breakfast in America is in my top 10 along with Hall & Oates as my guilty pleasure. You like what you like I guess. #SorryNotSorry🤷🏼♂️
One of my favorite bands of all time. And this album, seriously every song is good. I have it on vinyl. I listen to it frequently. Beautiful is an underestimation.
I prefer the earlier material from Crime of the Century, Crisis what Crisis, Even in the quietest Moments albums, less commercial. But Breakfast is still a good album.
You two have just stumbled upon one of the greatest, most underrated bands ever. I fell in love with them as a youth in the 70's. They are worth the rabbit hole for sure...100%
@@j.h.3777 people, who have never listened to them...they are an underrated band, if you put them out there with other big names of the time. They sometimes are forgotten. Just because YOU don't know anyone, doesn't make it so...
I agree !! Actually, they should be giving a first listen to virtually all studio versions first. For one thing, studio versions have more understandable lyrics. I don't know who keeps suggesting these LIVE performances (?)
Supertramp is such an underrated band!! I can't think of a single song that I don't like! Thank you so much for doing this song! Do your selves a huge favor and dive deep into the greatness! 💚
The guy singing is Roger Hodgson who wrote the lyrics which is about his personal experience of being sent away to a boarding school as a very young boy. My personal favourites by them are Goodbye Stranger and Rudy but all their tunes are a great listen.
You can't categorize them with just one song. They are like Pink Floyd, amazing instrumentation and deep lyrics, but their own unique style. There are many good songs.
Not that this wasn't a good live performance. But one of the things with Supertramp, and especially that album Breakfast In America, is the production on the songs is really really good. And there's a lot of little things with this song that they didn't recreate live. In general, if you haven't heard a song before by an artist or band, you should always do the album version first. Unless most people tell you that the live version is the way to go, the studio version should really be your first listen to get a feel for the song and the band.
They started as progressive rock, at this point in their career and this song, it's more pop rock. With lots of extras, like the horns & whistles. Crime of the Century is a "desert island" album, one of those with no bad songs. Listen to it in order, starting with School, followed by Bloody Well Right, and the rest. (Yes, Roger really did NOT appreciate being sent away to school.)
@@christinerobinson9372 People think of "Crime of the Century" as their first album, and it was their first BIG album, with their "classic" band lineup, but they had two prior. A self-titled one, and Indelibly Stamped. "Crime" is a perfect gem; the prior two have some good songs but are a bit uneven. I discovered them as a wee teen, when my sister & her hubs went to see Pink Floyd, and Supertramp was their opening act. I recommend listening to them the way we did, back in the day; the entire first side, a pause, then the second side. Sooo good with headphones.
They are one of the premiere Progressive Rock bands. Hit anything from the "Crime of the Century" or "Even In The Quietest Moments" albums to see why...
Supertramp were an English rock band formed in London, England in mid 1969. They had so many great songs in the 70's-80's such as "The Logical Song", "Breakfast In America", "Goodbye Stranger", "Take The Long Way Home", "Dreamer" "Give A Little Bit", "It's Raining Again", "Bloody Well Right", "My Kind Of Lady", "Cannonball", "I'm Beggin' You", "You Win, I Lose" etc.
In 1974 Supertramp released an album that should easily be in 90% of 70's music lovers top ten desert island albums. It should be listened to front to back, much like most Pink Floyd and Zeppelin albums. If you don't agree with me then that might be the crime of the century. Asia and BJ, you guys are all right. I enjoy your reactions very much because you concentrate on my favorite era/period of music, 1965-1980's. Cheers from the canadian Queen nut.
In college, late seventies, I splurged for two mobile fidelity sounds labs master pressing LPs - Dark Side of the Moon and Crime of the Century. Definitely agree with you.
Great reaction guys! These guys are uber talented musicians, songwriters and lyricists. Check out Bloody Well Right. Big hit and a personal fav. Cheers!!
I hope you listen to the recorded version of this one as well. Thanks for the reminder, I haven’t listened to Supertramp in a while…I am heading to my Spotify playlist!
"I said, watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical a Liberal, oh fanatical, criminal Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're acceptable Respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable"
This came from the album Breakfast In America and to me it's in my top ten records since the day it came out. Goodbye Stranger and Take The Long Way Home might be the way to go next.
Supertramp seemed very innovative and different back in the day when they first came out. The whole "Breakfast In America" album was fire and most of my friends had it in their collections.
It sounds familiar because Scooter created a remix of it and it's definitely a throwback! You've definitely heard it!!! ♥️ Check out Scooters remix of this song.
I wonder if the lack of knowledge amongst American reactors is down to the way their radio stations operate. As a Brit, we used to have a main pop station, and others doing bits of evergreens, cookery chat etc, plus of course offshore 'pirate' radio. That meant we heard current hits frequently but also some older stuff mixed in now and then, so almost everyone grew up having heard the names of artists from 1950's onwards plus their biggest hits
Of course you heard the song before somewhere. It's a famous song. Studio version, as usual, is much better. You should always review the studio version of songs, because those are the versions everybody knows and loves, and the live versions are usually disappointing, because the studio sound is impossible to recreate live.
Prog Rock... at least to start, Roger Hodgson on vocals and keys. Brilliant writers and performers- I did see them on their Farewell Tour and they were mesmerizing. Peace from Canada- be safe.
Such a unique and innovative band, Their album Breakfast in America was released on March 29, 1979 and would a huge success, it topped the Billboard album charts for 6 weeks. You gotta take a listen to "Take the Long Way Home" and " Goodbye Stranger" two more great songs by Supertramp.
Supertramp was the first concert I ever saw. I was 10, Jarry Park, Montréal, 1979. I remember being mesmerized by the performance. Fast forward to November 2019, Roger Hodgson is the last concert I saw before the pandemic. He still sounded just as great as the first time I heard him 40 years prior. If I had to pick, I think I would have to go with Hide In Your Shell as my favourite song,.
Whenever I listen to Supertramp, I'm reminded of being 15 years old when my younger brother and I broke the windows of my mother's closets, listening to "Dreamer" at full volume. I don't think she ever forgot either.
dont stop on just this song , this group is awsome !! one of their best albums was called breakfast in america , and i hope you also listen to the studio version too , again this group is awesome , great reactions!!!
If I had to pick a genre to describe Supertramp, I'd say they are Progressive Rock/Pop. Very unique sound and they have a lot of amazing songs! Please react to their hit "Bloody Well Right" next. 😎 Here is the remastered version from the Deluxe edition of their Crime of the Century album: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--YAMbLHcS-8.html You won't regret it! This song rocks and has more of that great sax! 🎶🎷
Supertramp is a very special, unique group with many wonderful songs in their catalog. Please listen to their studio album version of this song. It's so incredibly well-produced and beautiful! Then check out the rest of the songs everyone recommended. It's definitely worthwhile!
Omg. This gives me so many memories from when I was a kid. My dad loved music. It was always party at our house with his friends, listening to this kind of music. So they all had a whiskey and rocking away 🤣🤣 I remember this song so much 😍 I even have a huge suitcase full with LP'S. If you call them LP? Thanks for å great reaction and giving me forgotten wonderful memories you guys ❤❤ He died at 52 and my mom at 51. But in those years I learned a lot about these oldies ❤
Noooooo no no... dudes... you broke *Reactor's Rule #2: Always do the studio version first* . ( Rule #1 is never pause a Jimmy Page or David Gilmour guitar solo. Ever.)
You are born open minded and innocent, but the modern world cannot function with people like that, so we are fed into a system that teaches us to be what we need to be for society (logical, cynical) but at the cost of loosing one's Self...
"Bloody Well Right" Studio version starts with the best electric piano solo. "Goodbye Stranger." Both of those songs have co-founder Rick Davies sing while Roger, who you saw in the logical song, plays guitar.
This is progressive rock. I would recommend that you listen to this song on the album. It's great to hear them live, but the album version is just perfect.
Also, the message is all about growing up, being taught to question, criticize, be skeptical -- which is actually a good thing -- but you lose the magic and the wonder of childhood.
Like others have said, vast vast catalogue, this was off their Breakfast in America Album and that was brilliant and like Off the Wall fro Pink Floyd showed their talent at its Zenith, that said Crime of the Century to the purist as others have mentioned is a Supertramps fans Woodstock, the title song is a masterpiece and would blow your mind if you listen to it next compared to this song, not because it’s better, everyone appreciates their fav for their reasons, but like many Supertramp songs albums it’s so different you wouldn’t think it was the same band let alone genre, categorising bands in this era is almost disingenuous to both their talent creativity and ability, don’t be like the corporate and executive vampires this music like a link Floyd and many others of that era set no boundaries, people do that. School, Fools Overture and the rest are incredible, dive in deep, appreciate also the instrumentals and other sounds they incorporate into their music, like in this song one of the engineers while producing the song was playing a early version of a game boy a BFL game and it makes that ringing chime sound, or the whistle that John Halliwell threw in there, he plays the Sax in this song, also often use a Clarinet among others, all are multi talented.
Supertramp were just different great lyrics great vocals unusual instruments for a band but just fantastic to listen to I still have their tracks on my MP3 listen to them at least once a week
