The EGA on that Yamaha's gas tank told me everything I needed to know. Many crayons were eaten during the construction of that bike. Never change Devil Dogs, never change...
I loved this series, it was one of the things I loved about your channel. I haven't watched much since I got my bike, but I check in every so often. Glad to see it coming back!
My 1st bike was A 79 CB750K With extended shocks and forks for a much taller person than I. I rode it home in the rain at night. I am surprised I am still alive lol. 20 odd years later been thru 2 more. Got a 01 sabre 1100 now. Had her 10 years
The Versys 650 is loveable for exactly the reason you guys hate it. It's not much to look at or very interesting to talk about, it just works. Hauls stuff for trips or commuting, rips corners, and is as fast as it needs to be for the street.
@@wizardmoto if only they would drop the newer 399cc in there and make a Versys 400. If they did they'd have to add more to the new Versys 650 than just a TFT dash and LED headlights
I started on a 78 Honda cb550. Told the guy who sold it to me that i knew how to ride a motorcycle, and learned how to ride on the way home haha. Thank God for RU-vid.
I built one of those four stroke bike kits before, it’s was tons of fun and when 40 mph (which on a bike that you put together is terrifying). The only downsides were I had to take the engine off for oil changes and it would eat clutches
4:30 - My buddy upgraded from a 1972 Yamaha TX-500 to a new 1979 Honda CB-750F, which was really nice & fast. This CB-750K was Hondas Paleolithic "Custom" cruiser that would do @120mph.
The Moto Guzzi made me happy, I'd like to own one some day. I don't have a motorcycle yet, I'm 17 and looking to get one, I would just like a decent standard or possibly sportbike to start on, but around me there's only cruisers and dirt bikes for sale
after hearing the nickname for the Africa twin, I had a brainwave: I just got a Yamaha R7, and I'm going to call it "Sportacus". it works on so many levels. "sometimes, my genius, it generates gravity." -Jeremy Clarkson
I seen the lights in the background of the picture of bike #1 and realized that my city does that every year. Then thought I recognized the building, sure as shit that picture was taken like 1.5 miles from my house. What a small world, holy fuck.
The first one hit me kinda funny... I am actually half watching and listening/laughing to this while I work on my first bike. I'm 27 and just got a 1992 honda nighthawk 750 for $400. I have my phone sitting on the right foot peg, and my Bluetooth speaker hanging on the oil dipstick just next to it, while I drop the oil pan to actually pull the motor out of the frame. I work in a race engine shop that builds for pulling trucks/tractors and drag cars, so I want to do a factory spec rebuild with shit like factory bores and original cam lobe profiles. It's got 40,000 miles on it, so it's definitely a project. RIDE SAFE GUYS
I have a Suzuki GSX750F(SportTourer) with a heavily modded GSXR750 bottom end with an extra gear, this is a "LongThrow" gear that lets me ride all day at highway speeds without turning to jelly, running a GSX750F top end on carbs that is Jetted & Ported, it is a true sleeper with nothing visible on the outside & it catches absofuckinlutly everybody out, I'm running Bridgstones that allow me to wear out my knee sliders just like on my SportBikes, I sell the old ones to Trendies that want to look "Legit", it really is the best of both worlds, shit loads of fun for hours & hours & no back pain, plus the police think I'm just some old guy on a plodder so they pretty much leave me alone, what a result.
It looks like that guy is trying to turn his versys 650 into a ninja 650. Edit: actually, probably a z650. I'm not sure exactly what he did for 4k (suspension, maybe?🤔) but it looks like he bought a sport tourer, because he wanted to say he had an adv, then made it slightly more of a naked bike.🤷
29:45 looks like a 66cc. I know for a fact it's a grubee Skyhawk engine kit. Hands down one of the best bike engine kits out there. Only thing I do not like is that Boost pipe. It's a fake expansion chamber pipe that doesn't do anything more than grabbing the original muffler from it, gutting it and taking the cap off. It is nice myscore for it 6/10. Would he give an 8 if it was a real yz80 expansion chamber pipe. Also you can customize your own bike engine more with a g2 Reed valve, 700lb clutch (because its a friction clutch) high compression head, a real yz80 would be better, felt faker gas frame and to top it off a vm18 mikuni carburetor.
I started on a 1982 Yammy XS 1100 Midnight special - The rare one with the black and gold. Still have it in the garage. The electrical NEVER really worked properly.
Looks to me like he liquor-cycled a jack shaft as well. Most of these bikes are direct-drive to the rear chain, not through the pedal cassette. It’s also got some go-fast bits on it and the exhaust has given me a 2nd degree burn on my leg when I put one down. I can’t look at melting cheese from pizza commercials the same.
I'm building a motorized bike that will do 90mph. Alloy wheels built in frame gas tank. Roided true stuffed 100cc 2stroke motor with all upgrades and new jackshaft kit
I was blown away to see an Yamaha XS750. I have it's even lesser known cousin the 74' TX500. I will admit, that XS is heavily modded. That gas tank is a crime
Fun watching you kids talk about bikes from the 80's like that was ancient history. Yes I am a fossil. I have been riding since before luck kept you from being a stain in your dad's beat off sock. Love the take on the 80's bikes that I remember as being new and high tech compared to what I started riding. Breaker points anyone? Keep up the good work.
I started on a ‘82 Suzuki GS550 and the carbs weren’t the best. I pretty much had a problem with them from the beginning but it still ran. It was also crashed prior to me getting it by my brother when he owned it so there’s that too. Now I have a ‘07 FZ6 and fuel injection is so much better
Any bike is an adventure bike just point it, twist the throttle and find some adventure. When my Sporty was sitting on the dirt hill with both tires spinning in the air it was an adventure getting it unstuck.
This may be a pretty stupid question considering that Yam already talked about this in the video, and also pinned it to the comments, but I wanted to know if there is some price or whatever to just gain access to the discord? I'm not from the US, so can't really participate in the giveaways and I would really want to join the discord because of some questions which can't even be answered by reading 10yo forums from the deepest corners of the dark web + also the opinions from fellow riders seem quite handy. (Btw, 5 bucks a month is still sometimes unreachable since I don't really have a stable job yet)
I laughed so damn hard because I bought my first bike less than a month ago and its a 1981 CB750K. Basically the exact same bike pictured but with the stock 4 into 4 exhaust. Im convinced every ‘81 for sale is mint because mine is perfect and only has 17k miles
I can't imagine what y all would say about my daily rider, Massimo Baja Warrior Minibike with a hotroodded Briggs and Stratton Vanguard Vtwin engine that accelerates a bit better than an 883 sportster from 20 to 60 and tops out at 78 mph thanks to its 32 tooth rear sprocket.
That XS-650 looks like an attempt at a Bonneville salt flats bike, like buddy's feet are supposed to go out the back or something. my back hurts looking at it.
Why do we have an issue with old bikes as first bikes? They’re great! Easy to ride, easy to work on, and they’re affordable. You’ll learn more about working on bikes from a simple older motorcycle than some brand new bike with a payment plan that you drop on the way out of the lot.
Hilarious seeing mods people do to bikes thinking they are making them better. Mods usually greatly devalue the bike no matter how much you think you are making it better 😂
Lol I have a still frame from video while riding my mini bike on a velodrome. I rolled the bike and all you see in the frame are my legs, boots and blue sky 😆
My first bike purchase was a’78 goldwing 1000…looked pretty much like this bike but had the flat four boxer. Almost same body panels. Mine was naked so it was almost identical to this design.
xs 650 and kz's are my favorites.💦🤤 i rock a 79cc 4 stroke phatmoto licker cycle. so much fun n no license or paper work. much better than a cheap bicycle with a 2 stroke.🍻
Those comments about fearing to loose a wheel when riding... I learnt to ride on a Zündapp K50 Mustang that I had restored myself. Tuned the shit out of ur and learned to do wheelies on it. One morning after having fixed a flat on the front tire, I popped a wheelie and the front wheel fell of. There's a steep if not instantaneous learning cure when it comes to figuring out how to stop while wheeling, whilst the front wheel was swinging side to side from the speedo and brake cables... My dad had helped put on the wheel, and didn't torque the axle clamps.🤦🏼♂️ Still have no idea how I managed not to dive on the nose (fork). 🤷
Why is he bold for starting on that CB750? Asking for...uuuuh a friend who just bought one off FB marketplace, has neither done the MSF nor told his mother yet lol.
I've ridden a lot of bikes throughout the years but never owned one. Last year I got a boom Vader on Amazon which is a grom clone. I've had it over 18 months and put 6k miles on it. I get made fun of a lot for it but whatever. I can pick it up and toss it in a trunk if I needed to. Would I like a different bigger bike, of course. Can I make a decision on one, absolutely not. Really looking at the MT line but damn that rebel keeps catching my eye.
I would like to speak in defense of the moto guzzi. Ducati made a "scrambler" lest we forget, and if I remember correctly it was just as terrible at actually doing scrambler stuff. It was supposedly too low for any real ground clearance and the tires were too streetlike to offer any real traction.
The banana pipe exhaust on my 2 stroke bicycle is constantly touching my leg and is warm at worst the only part of the exhaust that is really hot is the metal closest to the engine
