Everyone has advice, right? Here's what I learned: My friend Lori (up the road and our nearest neighbor) was on her tractor cutting grass. She felt something that felt like a little *pow* and then intense itching. Shortly after, she was vomiting. She figured spider bit. She dealt with the swelling, headaches, and icky feeling for over a week. She finally went in. Small copperhead bite. She watches what she is doing on her tractor and never saw it. snake bites and some spider bites will eat from the inside out. I hope you get it checked. Lori is still dealing with after-issues two years later.
Every one has its ups and downs. It just better with more ups and less downs. Life thoughts you what you can handle on more or less. Keep the ups going strong.
I am a retired nurse , I wish you would show it but I have taken care of a patient that got bit by Brown Recluse spider near her elbow which turned out to be a hospitalzation , and major problem..it happened so long ago I can't remember anymore detail as to what they did for her....I don't mean to disagree with Gary but Wolf Spiders don't bite not in Michigan anyway ..I could be wrong probaly I should google it before I say that.......And FYI Gumby saw a poisonous snake in his white Van the other day on the floor of the Van he shooed it away and lost track of where it went after that.....I googled snakes in Arkansas and it listed 15 different kinds and many were poisonous as a rattler would be..... Mel being that is on the ankle bone I would go have it lanced and whatever is in there drained out .....cuz you never want a bone infected cuz it travels and it takes @ 6 weeks IV therapy to stop a bone infection......
Soak your ankle in really warm water and epsom salt water. At least one cup of epsom salt to a bucket of water that comes over your ankle. Soak for 30 mins. Do it two- three times a day
That looks like a brown recluse spider bite Mel. It’ll be a couple of days before the tissue around it begins to die. Get yourself to a doctor ASAP before it gets to that point. My husband had a brown recluse bite and it was the most ghastly thing I have ever seen. The dead tissue was bigger than a quarter. 🤢…Better safe than sorry. 🥰
My husband was bit by a tarantula and it looked a lot like that. He went to the dr and the dr cut something out of it. Praying for you mind what Gary says and you will be fine
Hay! I was asleep when you put this out. But just got my fix in watching. Sorry to hear about the bite as not a good thing, Wishing you a great day anyway. Love y'all
16:12 you have a deep tissue infection called cellulitis. I’m not a doctor here, but to help heal this put triple antibiotic cream on it a few times a day and Benadryl ointment on top of the triple antibiotic cream. Keep the area clean and put gauze and tape on it.
Hope you are doing better tonight Mel. If not please go to the doctor. I had simple scratch turn into cellulitis in a day and wound up in the hospital for 4 days, almost lost my leg. Hope you are better.
Epsom Saltz is good to put in warm water and soak your ankle area. Put warm water in a pan with 1/2 cup of saltz. Soak for at least ten minutes three times a day. I have never seen a mosquito bite swelllike that.
I was unable to catch the live. For some bites they will affect the tissue underneath before showing up on the surface. I would recommend going to see your primary or going to an urgent care facillity. Have seen this many times on the farm and on bike trips.
The reclusive spiders are very bad news. I had a friend get bit on his little finger.. He lost his arm,but they did not get all the poison it got to his heart and killed him. So please be very careful with spider bits if you did not see the spider.
I relate to that. I have to be in front seat (preferably driving) and the window down a little bit. No air conditioning or heater from neck up. That has been an issue my whole 70 yrs
You guys had a black widow sighting - I was bitten by a black widow and didn't know it - my arm was in such pain for the entire weekend - ended up at the Dr on Monday and he told me that I'd better never be bitten by a black widow again since I didn't get the serum for it.... It was swollen and painful - had a black and blue arm -
Mix a little baking soda and water make a thick paste put on wound as needed it's messy but it will help like draw out whatever stuff that the thing that bit you injected in you
Seriously since you have young children it is imperative that you seek medical attention. It’s not just you and Gary. Regardless of what bit you please be proactive
Oh dear! And school isn’t so far off. Hoping you feel better soon. Maybe you should go to the doctor tomorrow and get on an antibiotic. Or antibiotic cream. 😢
My grandmother was born in 1882 and she would have said put a police on it to draw out the poison. I think it would have been baking soda with just enough water to make a paste. Apply the poltice and cover with gause.
I hope you will consider going to Dr. If you need an antibiotic the sooner you get started the better. He/she might also suggest some 16:24 immediate treatment for future bites.
I'm suggesting a tarantula bite, especially with the puncture wounds so large. Tarantulas come in all sorts; we even have some here in NC, though they are much smaller. Can't remember what we call them atm: pine tarantulas or some such. With legs spread, they are about 3 inches across and easily blend in with the ground cover. Painful bite indeed. Though not fatal, however you can get sick. Ms. Mel, you look a little swollen in the face. Suggest an Urgent Care visit.
Dispenser on the right side - in an all woman household just pull down and no need to twist your wrist. If there is a guy in the house make it convenient on the top so he doesn't want to just shake it all over the place.. If I ever get just my own bathroom where I don't have to share - it will definitely be off the bottom. Mom always had it off the bottom too. Definitely prefer the bottom.
I don't drink hot coffee, it has to be ice cold, I find it to be far more refreshing and wakes me up far faster too, so the night before I make a 4 pint bottle of coffee allow it to cool then put it in the fridge for the next morning.
Well I have been there done that! If you suspect a brown recluse, take caution. If continues to turn red, it may take on a white dot center like a boil; would. I too got very weak and just hours after I noticed the red and dot, it started opening up and by then i was at the Dr. about three days later i had to have a surgical clean out done on it and had home health nurse dress and re bandage for a number of days, Keep close watch.
Last week I got stung by a dead bee! I clean pine needles out of my big cooper fountain with a fish net… there were a couple of dead bees in the water. As I was turning the net inside out, I got a stinger in between my pointer finger and my middle finger! I pulled the stinger out immediately but, it was too late! I’ve been stung twice before in my life. Never had a reaction like this! My hand is back to normal now, thankfully! I think cool Epsom salt compresses did the most good!
Mel...A simple and safe poultice can be made by mixing 1/4 cup of baking soda with just enough water to create a paste with the consistency of sour cream. The poultice should be spread over the entire stained area in 1/4" layer extending no more than 1/2" past the stain and then covered with plastic wrap.
Hey Mel and Gary, at around 24:00 you triggered a memory, why worry? If you worry about what you have no control over, why worry, it’s not going to change it. If it’s something you have control over then again why worry because worrying won’t get it done, just do it.
This reminds me of the spider bites we get when we go to the lake. Most of the time I don’t even feel the bite but suddenly I find a swollen spot that looks bruised and is very tender. We have no poisonous snakes were we live so I agree with you that the bite is probably from a spider.
GARY...MY CUP IS HUGE ALSO. I drink a pot by myself a day. You and Mel are very hard working people. Raising 3 kids and taking care of animals, plus building your home!!! Take care of that sting/bite. Benadryl cream works wonders.
Mel its swollen so it's good elevated with frozen peas will reduce swelling!! Hydrocortisone is what I use we have Horse flies or ticks/ fleas which is best to get checked because you can get Lime disease from So please get GP or Hospital to check or even a nurse!! Look after yourself before you can look after anyone else!! Sending love from the UK Xxx
❤ Mel I hope you get back on your feet soon. Insects can bite you anywhere on your body most any time of the year. Sorry this has happened to you. Take care of the bite the best way you think. Enjoyed the show.
I hope you didn’t get it by a brown recluse.. they make a really nasty wound.. you can Google brown recluse bite and what it looks like..it kind of sounds like that’s what you were bit by the way you’re describing it..
I ,got bit by a brown recluse and it itched then I cleaned it with peroxide it got ugly went to the ER and they gave me s tetanus shot it healed good after that !❤
Like Forest Gump said, " Momma always said Life is like a box of chocolates cause you never know what you're gonna get . And that's all I got to say about that" SQUIRREL!
Gnats bite and the bite swells up. Is the site hot or warm? Baking soda moist pack works well for bites like that! 😊❤ P.S you can’t see gnats, they bite you before you know it!
Hi Gary and Mel. So sorry about the bug bite. I have had my share in life to. Just put your leg up and baking soda paste is best for relief. Watch closely Good Luck.
Just food for thought, but you are new to living in this part of the South. Could this be a Scorpion bite, because it certainly will make you sick. Something to consider...
Hey Mel please keep an eye on it, if it has made you nauseous that isn’t good. Mel listen to your body!!! I have been bitten before and it isn’t anything to mess with. The flesh will not start dying right then Gary. She needs to have it checked out!!
Sounds like motion sickness Perhaps it was a ground bee-here in Ohio yellow jackets burrow into the ground and the sting is painful and causes swelling.
