Once when I was about 6 or 7 my sister & I walked to the grocery store to buy a few things for my mother & I wanted ice cream but didn't have enough money so I snuck away from my older sister & "borrowed " an ice cream bar & lagged behind her as usual on the way home & ate my ice cream. I can't remember how my mother found out but she did & I had to walk back to the store, apologize to the owner & pay for it out of money my mother didn't need to waste on ice cream. I learned a valuable lesson though & never "borrowed " anything again, lol. I don't know how I thought you could borrow ice cream & then pay it back.

By using 2016 as the most recent and looks like record holder of corrupt officials, more of the 2016 administration was investigated, convicted, imprisoned than in Nixons era, which is saying A LOT. I can remember all the way back to the Eisenhower years, I had many to chose from but since the majority of readers only relate to presidents from this century, I still hold 2016 as the election that will go down in history as an abomination. People are thinking cheat, lie, hate, intolerance are normal attributes....I hope a progressive tolerant administration will initiate a shift to a kinder and inclusive country

This was how we lived. We had everything we needed, but we couldn’t afford extras. If we wanted to go to the movies we had to wait until we had the money and we didn’t always have it! No one bought things on credit, it just wasn’t done. We got 50 cents a week allowance and that is what we used for anything “extra” like the movies. Movies cost 2.00 at the time, 10 cents for popcorn. So basically we saved all month for the movies and if we could waggle an extra 10 cents from our mom, we felt happy!

Spring, the big difference was as well nobody was expecting to be entertained as much as the average person does now. We children had routines, plenty of chores that we were held accountable to do & do properly. We brought books home, we had homework so our parents knew what we were learning. We so enjoyed movies and a restaurant because we did not do those all that much. Birthdays and Christmas were meaningful and high excitement because THAT was when we got gifts. We were very blessed growing up with the order, the work ethic, and the values we did.

What a delightfully witty film! I was chuckling all the way through! The scene where mother is complaining about her neighbour's idea of a smidgeon of butter being actually a full quarter pound of butter, was real funny! LoL! xxxx

I was born in 1951. This 1952 movie has been one of my favorites. Seen it off and on and never miss it when it pops up now and then. Sigh

What a noble man Jim was ~ so selfless and generous with his Love for her. It made me cry. But I was happy for Rodney and for his mother and even for her new husband. What a movie!

Nicely developed plot with several surprises which pop up just when you think you know what will happen next ! Some of these actors and actresses have also appeared in televised series - I can't be the only one who recognizes "Granny" - And John Sleamish- the Bank President - It's Thurston Hall, who was another bank president later, Mr. Schuyler, the boss of Cosmo Topper ! It's thrilling every time one of these undiscovered Black and White gems shows up !

Loved this oldie. ❤️ When days were simpler, life was more honest, and I walked away with a smile of yesterday. I remember milk in bottles being delivered to our home in the 60's here in NY. I wish I had one of those bottles today; memories 😢

I remember another charming movie called Mr. 880 about an old gentleman who printed one dollar bills, but that movie is supposed to be a true story. It stars Edmond Gwenn and any movie with him in it is always a treat.
