It Is SO DARK | SUPER JUNIOR The 10th Album #2 ‘Burn The Floor’ Performance Video Reaction 

Shindong, one of the members, directed Burn The Floor. He's actually directed quite a few Super Junior videos. I'd recommend This is Love and Evanesce. The videos are actually connected and I think you might find them really interesting.

This performance video pretty much floored everyone because it’s unique. So very Super Junior. The song is a masterpiece. (One of the composers/producers actually did a reaction video for BTF.) They have performed BTF multiple times live. Honestly, the first time this song was presented was during a live show. The performance video was released after. I understand why some of the camera movement (some in post production probably) can be a bit unsettling. I think this is an aesthetic. To me the movements go with the music. It conveys a sort or dreamy on the edge of a nightmare intenseness that fits the song. You’re being seduced into this opulent sensual world…think….masquerades and vampires. So I feel the movement of the camera is suppose to make you a bit uncomfortable like somehow you’ve been put under a spell and know it, yet, you just can’t stop watching and you’re sucked into it in the end. When the light goes out at the end the end of the video….it’s too late to leave. You’ve been ensnared. As others have said, this was directed by SJ Shindong. He’s known for camera tilts and crazy zooms with his camera as he’s filming. He’s also crazy post production editing guy. His company, Walala, has filmed/directed many stage performances and MVs for many other artists besides SJ. (One example is EXO’s THE STAGE performance. You need to see ‘Obession’ (EXO & X-EXO Ver.). That’s all Shindong and his team. As far as I know, he directed, filmed, and edited it all personally. Someone correct me if I’m wrong please. ) As far as what to check out next…. I suggest ‘House Party’, ‘2YA2YAO’, ‘Raining Spell for Love (remake ver.)’ - as far as I know, Shindong directed this one as well. It’s very simple since they’re just sitting and singing live. It’s a beautiful song. There’s tons more of course. 😁 Thank you for checking out SJ! 💙

The lights that they're holdin were turned on the whole time. They "switched" the lights off by puttin them to their bodies (and in the pockets at some point)... 😉 Which makes the whole choreography and performance waaaaayyyyy cooler than they already are.

Okay just a little info, this song is a track from their 10th album "the renaissance". So, that's why it feels theatrical because it was based on that time. The light and the dance had their own mean also i heard somewhere that the zoom techniques also represent renaissance (im not sure about this one tbh) We cant call them "old" since they only in their mid 30s but yeah, they older than new kpop group. AND, this video was directed by Shindong, one of the members. Thank you

2 members of Super Junior (Shindong and Eunhyuk) are MV,concert,stage performances directors ! 🔥👑 the only kpop group who direct their own concerts and stages and they direct for other groups and artists as well !

The zooming might be to represent linear perspective, the study of which flourished in the Renaissance. I really liked your analysis. This was an excellent video of SJs and I appreciate it more now.

Super Junior are the best of Kpop, they are so different to other groups.

The TMA Fact Music Award 2020 is where SJ 1st introduced & performed this song live. The 10th album was not even released then. The song is very good & performance; outstanding.

If you watch Shindong film a MV he's actually doing the zooming in and out with a stabilized hand-held camera at the time, not in post editing. There might be some editing after, but he tries to get most of it beforehand so there's less work on the backend.

Just my point of view about the Zoom in - Zoom out, it was like intend to make you feel seasick :))). With the vibe of the song and the renaissance theme - also name of the album, zoom effects make audiences feel attractive, captivated,... uhm, I don't know if I find right word but it like you just lost into the song because of a spell :)))) Thank you for your reaction. It would be nice if you watch their live stage which filmed by other director and in another background but this MV is the best version and best camera working which directed by one of the member - Shindong

Can you also react to 'house party' and 'The melody' mv? House party is about Covid 19, and The melody is a fan song. You can turn on the subtitles on setting.

The zoom in and out of the camera syncronizes with the beat of the song.

super junior has been in the industry since 2005 and they are still in force over the years, now they are over 30 years old and with the experience to function in any field 💙

At least 3 of Super Junior are active musical actors. So they do have the experience of theatre. Kyuhyun recently plays the lead for Phantom and the Man who Laughs

I don't think that it's mostly post-editing, but editing in the camera. This camera style developed in K-Pop TV shows, where they not only use camera cranes but also camera men that move with the dancers. The reason is that they want close shots and close ups, not just full shots, which in MVs are edited in, and in live shows are done with zooms. Zooming from full shot into close-ups and out again would look weird. The hand-held LED lights are reminiscent of Indian candle dances. The most famous film shot in candlelight is Kubrick's BARRY LYNDON, which is set in the Baroque era, and the paintings of that era also loved very stark dark/light contrasts. The live performances of "Burn the Floor" are also very good., most recently in SS9.

I love the zooming in and out as it gives me a sense of intimacy with them and those body rolls. It saves me the trouble of moving my head with each rolls. It's like I'm personally there on the scene with them watching the performance live. It's like I'm the only one in the world as their audience if you get what I mean.

The zooming in and out is a common technique in SM Entertainment's video production for all their artists. But especially the first and 2nd Gen ones. It was a trend in the 2000s. So it's something common in SuJu's clips. I enjoyed your reaction.

I like your point of view for this performance, thank you for reacting this song. BTF is my favorite song in this album ^^ Actually, they perform BTF many time (6x include this video, cmiiw ELF ^^). Every performance has a little difference (lighting, costume, etc) and it makes every performance is unique And the member that take your attention is yesung, the main vocal of suju ^^

thanks for your reaction! burn the floor is one of the songs in their recently released 10th album, the renaissance. hence, the classical and artistic concept (light play is also part of the renaissance concept). it was a contender for title track but in the end, house party (a socially-relevant song about the pandemic) won.

I saw many people recommending "This is Love" and "Evanesce" i agree. Our Director Shindong filmed both MVs for the repackaged of Super Juniors 7th album. Both the songs and the videos are connected by the lyrics and themes. This is love is the start of a relationship while Evanesce describes it's ending.

Even though there were several cuts, they actually did perform this live with the lights. Currently they are using red rubber bands instead of lights. Fun fact, speaking about theatre - several members are veteran musical actors.

I also agree that the zoom in and out is pretty disturbing(?) to look at but I'm impressed overall of all the minimal use of lights and simple choreo makes the performance works.
