This is lowest level quality discussion ever on this channel, bordering on the parody of a scholarly panel. I am sorely disappointed mostly because with a few exceptions here and there this channel has embraced some of the highest standards of dialectical and intellectual argumentation. Maybe it's the heat.

Given the fact that Josephus did not write about Jesus at all, it intrigues me why he didn’t. In the 80’s and 90’s the christian sect must have been pretty organized and relevant, so much as not to be ignored. Please make a show about Josephus silence

Probably Christianity was dead in Judea by Josephus's time, except maybe in Caesarea.

It's disturbing that lay people don't trust scholars like Charlesworth and Tabor who have studied this for over 100 years. Trust Tabor on Paul and Charlesworth on dating the books etc.

Your discussion and arguments are fairly conclusive. In the main Rome wouldn't find Christianity too helpful. Just another sect to add to the problems they already had with Jews. On the other hand removing table sharing prohibitions, the requirement of circumcision and strict Jewish Law may have commended itself to the Roman world. I am not arguing Roman Provenance but I think the mission to the Gentiles could have been attractive and at times repellent to the Roman world interested in religion and morals. (Revelation is a very anti-Roman book but I think it was not widely accepted in the early Church). I have somewhat of a question of the material origin of Christianity. Who produced and physically distributed the early Christian texts and who arranged for the copying and distribution of Jewish scriptures. This must have required considerable material resources (wealth and labour). This is not to argue for Roman provenance but to ask about the material requirements for the success of this new religious movement.

My PhD is in medieval history, which requires me to be fairly conversant with church history. I had never heard of Roman provenance until I heard it mentioned on this channel. It's certainly not a theory entertained by academics or grounded in evidence.

U don’t think any of the discussions about it here have cited evidence? Gotta disagree there… Mainstream Christian scholarship is hardly receptive to these types of thesis, and could even be career suicide. The fact that mythicism is considered SUPER fringe, tells u everything. Hardly a strong argument against the theory.

I agree with the OPer. You appear to go out of your way to immediately discard those you previously associated with, quite heavily, while never having them on after doing so , to provide their side of any given argument that you suddenly aren't cool with anymore. It's fine to change your mind, but many of these people have done your channel a great service over the years. And all of that makes me agree that you're rather zealous with all this. It's a shame. I know he said something that could be interpreted as that. Here on the channel they talked about it but idk if it is still up. The thing is, how can Atwill be a Holocaust denier when a lot of the outlets he appears on are pro Jewish and advocating to erradicate Anti-Semitism. I don't get it.
