Kelsey when you are done with the ENTIRE house, why don’t you do a video where you talk about finances and planning and logistics of the reno. Did you stay with within your planned budget
J S 63 Yes, and tell us how to do it as a single poor girl with no job living in San Francisco with no money, but I want a larger house in a better location, and I don't want to do any work. Thanks!
It's so insane. Kelsey bought a house last year and she has renovated the entire thing into two units, moved in a tenant, and made 10 episodes of designing different areas of her house with all of the projects, paint, DIY, and decorating that requires. I bought a house last year. I have not even hung up curtains yet.
@@shadowfox009x I know. It's true. If it was my job to hang curtains I might. But I did actually finally hang my curtains. I never did hang my artwork though. This is my 3rd year here. Maybe more of Kelsey and Becky will keep pushing me to do it.
This video got me questioning my taste, bc everything I loved, you said was “too grandma”. I felt so attacked I had to pause my knitting to ask my daughter to post this.
Was definitely questioning the curtain choice...but, oh man, ended up being perfect with the shelves. You have a great eye for seeing the end product. The whole entryway is to die for.
ME TOO! At first I liked it(I like the grandma aesthetic) but I didn't think it would work with her style but she knew what she was going for and it ended up being perfection. She's got a really good eye
I think it looks great, but surprised she didn't go for leather ties with a brass bead maybe? It seems more like her aesthetic. That being said, I would kill for this space!
Kelsey, please don't cover up your thermostat. Covering your thermostat prevents the device from accurately reading the temperature of your living area. More than likely, the cover will cause the thermostat to think the room is warmer than it actually is. It needs airflow to function properly.
The room came together awesome but...that floating cabinet!! GORGEOUS! the wood details, oh lawd, Chris has amazing skills! Please don't ever paint that!
I'm sure I'm not the first person to say this, but this series (and all TSG videos, really) are so great for women to see. So many women are conditioned to think that this type of creativity isn't for them, or that they can't do it on their own. BUT OF COURSE WE CAN! So aspirational and empowering! At the same time Kelsey isn't afraid to ask for help when she needs it, which isn't always easy to do. I am completely invested in this series and want to be the upstairs neighbor! 🥰
Dad was right about the fireplace tile. Looked good with the color tones. The space looks amazing. You did a great job. And love the cabinet that Chris built
You have proven that many problems can be solved either with time or with money. You put in lots of sweat equity, deliberation, and patience, and I hope you're happy with the whole project. Great job! PS - I'm pleased the thrift and roadside treasure fairies blessed you several times.
I don’t know how Kelsey is so patient?!? I couldn’t stretch this house decorating/makeover processes over so many months, I’m so eager to start and finish a space all in the same weekend so I can get on to enjoying it!
😉May you always remain eager & excited for 🎨DIY & Design🖌 too! 💲Sometimes lack of resources can cause a delay.⌛Sometimes it is about timing. It did seem like Kelsey had a lot going on all at once 🤹♀️. Unless you are a trained & skilled ✒designer📐, sometimes it helps to live in a space a bit before decorating too. Sometimes we imagine an apt|house will work for us in a specific way, but change our minds once we move in. You might find yourself using it differently or naturally gravitating toward an unexpected area. 👂Sometimes a space needs to speak to you. 🤔Of course, it can be a legit worry that if you don't style your space at the start that you will never get around to finishing details.
An entry way to die for - I’m jealous. I really liked the tile on the fireplace, it gave the room an eclectic, random feel as in not too matchy-mathcy. A girl can never have too much GREEN in her home😀.
Anyone else feel like they're decor style is a combination of Becky's and Kelsey's? Love how clean yet characterful Kelsey's style is and how warm and textured Becky's style is. They've both really come into they're own.
Wowzer, what difference. Fireplace is a real deal. IKEA storage, special wood cabinet/shelf...really overall ALL updates really made huge difference. Love green lamp. Progress
😝Personally, vintage or not that original tile did not appeal to me. 🤔 Thought it would look cool updated with a black & white Moroccan Mosaic style tile. 🎯In the end, I do love the plain solid look of fireplace. That dark green kills. 👀 Easy on the eyes. No longer will the indent compete w/either the FP guard or mirror visually.
How is it that you can bang out a design for others but you have so much indecision over your own home. Still you end up with a beautiful space just as you have in all the other area of your home. Bravo.
Do your storage bench doors still aggressively slam the floor when you open them, or did you figure out a way to solve that? Absolutely LOVE how you styled this room! Thanks for being so open about the things you've learned along the way... You're an absolute God-send to this first time home buyer. Thank you TSG team! xo
💞Love💞love💞💞love your idea. Belt or strap. Something Kelsey could easily DIY too. Besides dig manly mixed w/feminine. Anything to remove the "too precious" part. 😝Definitely thought it looked 👼girly-granny👵w/ pouf. 🐮Farmhouse feel now w/ dowel & matching sash. Although the dowel truly elevated it. Easy solution. 🏛 Otherwise, thought about a Greek Key in black on sash would sell the mcm vibe, but do a button closure on sash instead of bow. 🤔The leather option would feel more 70s boho instead of 50s retro town chic.
Love those narrow front windows. Yes, you definitely need the dowel in the bottom of the linen shade. Perfect to have the curtain ties right over the spaces between the windows. Love the shelf above the peg rack. Good place to put gloves or hats or small plant type decor.....turn off the breaker. The life you save could be your own! If it were me I would add a supportive soft handmade foam cushion on top of the shoe doors.....Love the new fireplace cover -- a much letter fit. Whoa, you plastered right over that tile. Some crazy person would have made a liquor cabinet out of the fireplace. Har, har....Love the floating cabinet. The paint on the door is excellent.
@@lushiousificationFeel your pain. 🤓Live in SoCal. The early sunset🌅 never felt this miserable, but at least from sun rise🌄 we experience mostly blue skies & sun to balance it out. 🌥Up north, chances are that you contend with much more frequent cloud 🌫covering this season too (compared to us). Although months of relentless 😷 C19 isolation and lockdown🔒 is hard enough to bear 😔 without it going pitch dark @ 5p.
Love how it turned out!!!! I also love that you didn't just do it in a weekend you showed how long it can sometimes take to transform a space with our busy lives
Fun video as ALWAYS! Love the results of your front room makeover! While Moms and Dads love to do things to help their children-no matter the age-it is ALWAYS nice to be thanked and appreciated for it! The walnut cabinet and shelf is beautiful as is the fireplace and the super-handy shoe cabinets!!! May you truly enjoy this Holiday Season Kelsey regardless of its unusual nature! And the same to Becky, Daniella, Nick, Allie, Justin and all your families and loved ones! Thanks for keeping us entertained, learning, and inspired this truly different, and challenging year! Happy 2021!
Kelsey, would you please make a video some day talking about how you did all the legal stuff for making a rental unit and like how you wrote up a lease agreement and whatnot? That would be super helpful!
@@djjones7039 Those rounded shelves she put up look inappropriate to me. Maybe you won’t be a grandma some day but if you are lucky you’ll be old enough to be a grandmother...it comes on a lot faster than you may think and aging has its own rewards like not feeling insecure about your job, or home or relationships.
Incredible job!! Good things take time and I'm glad you didn't rush the design. I love how patient and thoughtful you are with your purchases, it came together beautifully!! That fireplace is definitely FIRE!!
You also don't need to specifically buy the metal brackets like in this video, they're very easy to DIY from a length of wood if you have a miter saw or for smaller things even a miter box for a handsaw.
Kelsey, my husband is an electrician and they make these cute little testers. They call them tic tracers. They verify the power is off. Green means go red means stop. They’re not too expensive and it would save you a ton of time and nerves!
Omg that new custom made console is so beautiful! Love the final result. And thanks god tou removed those tiles from the fire place, It looks so much better!
Gutted, I just bought native deodorant.. wish I’d have used this code! Still got a good deal, but not as good as this one... looks like I may be stocking up with a second order 😅🥰
@@saraa4037 definitely more of a daily deodorant! It isn't an antiperspirant so it doesn't stop sweat (but honestly blocking sweat glands isn't great for your body!). It does a great job of covering the BO smell though! I wear it for the gym without issue (:
@@saraa4037 I agree with the other commenter, sweating is a great way of releasing toxins in the body. I'd just dab the area dry or shower right after working out. Native deodorant is however THE BEST at making me feel clean and smelling good long term. Other natural deodorants did not last as long as Native. Since I refuse to use commercial aluminum deodorants, I am in love with this one! It's a keeper 💜
I liked the tile on the fire place it was a good decorative accent. Now the fire place looks like a large green box. Maybe a wooden mantel that match the wall cabinet would make it look better
It’s gorgeous! I’ve been binging for the last 4 days, we’re working on our bedroom, and you have so many beautiful ideas. I’m from NS and living in MA. I have family in TO, which has made your spot even more appealing. I have had some trouble making decisions about paint, paper, and I’m encouraged to see that people who do this all the time also have troubles. I don’t expect to hear back from you, just know I will be following you and your team! 🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸
This is absolutely beautiful, and so cozy. Also, I'm with you on the Native. I get the plastic free version for myself, and for family Christmas gifts. I have been using native in the plastic version for about 6 months and I love it.
I was aghast when I saw the first light come out of the wrappings. That is such an awkward looking light. I kept hoping through the whole video that you would change your mind about that light but no, it's still there. I guess I'll wait and see how it works with the next section of your front room there. Everything looks fantastic! The colors you chose work well together. I kept thinking you would retile that area on the fireplace but plastering it over and painting it looks really good. Such a delight to have such a long video, thank you so much!
I think a stick-on brick border (the easy 12" x 12" ones that come with adhesive or even real brick) inside of the green fireplace would look so good! It would help to add contrast and texture to the solid green area. Maybe a tan brick or red brick color to highlight the warm tones of the wood and congac accents 🧱😲❤️
The room looks AMAZING!!! But I think painting the window trim black would have looked really amazing too. And please don‘t let us wait so long fore another room makeover😋
when you walked around for several minutes with a piece of apple in you hand... just eat it girl. Now I understand how my students feel when I do the same thing while teaching a lesson
I was so hoping to see it furnished. But I really enjoyed this episode and seeing your thought process and how you bring things together. I've really enjoyed this series. So far, the bathroom is my favorite!
Me: I have about 15 minutes to watch a youtube video before I need to get back to my tasks for the day. ( *me seeing 47 minute long making home video* ) Welp guess things can get done later 🤷🏻♀️🙌🏽
So goooood Kelsy!! I do feel like once you covered the tile detail on the fireplace, it kinda could stand to having a bigger cover if you ever wanted a larger one. I love it all, though!!
