I don’t keep my phone with me all that often but my watch is synced to it. As a woman of a certain age and struggling with my balance it’s reassuring to have one or the other. Even though it’s expensive I have emergency service set up on my watch. If a hard fall is detected they will contact me. If I don’t or can’t respond within 15 seconds they will send help. The choices are Yes I fell; send help, Yes I fell; but I’m ok, or No; I don’t need help. You touch the watch face to let them know which of the 3 applies. It’s very good to know it’s there should I need it.

I agree with most of these with the exception of the phone one…and my reasoning is because I missed a phone call on Christmas Eve because I was in another room separate from my phone when my mother-in-law called to tell me and her son that my brother-in-law had gotten into a horrible motorcycle accident. If I had answered the call the first time, we would’ve had more time to spend with him at the hospital during his last moments, instead we got there too late and wasn’t able to see him, he passed away shortly after we got there. So with the regard to my kids school, emergencies that “may or may not happen” I’d rather not take the chance and not have a way for someone to reach me if they need to. I’ll never make that mistake again.

I'm really sorry for your loss. I keep my phone fairly nearby because of a similar situation that happened in my family. However, for people on the fence about where to put your phone: having it nearby doesn't have to equate to using it constantly throughout the day or being bombarded by notifications. You might just need to train yourself to pick it up and check it less frequently.
@cc1526
@cc1526 2 дня назад
Omg how horrible and on Christmas Eve .. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I hope you don’t carry any guilt with you from not being close to your phone cause you had no way of knowing and putting the phone away to enjoy a quiet Christmas Eve is more than acceptable. I just need you to know that because just by the tone of you saying “I’ll never do that again” it just sounded like you might still carry that with you and you just need to know that’s not your fault. If you already know then good, I’m just telling you what you already know but for the chance you’re still carrying any guilt, please know that’s not on you at all. This was just a horrible horrible circumstance and I’m SO sorry you had to go through that at like the absolute worst time. I hope your family is doing better or at least as good as possible after something so traumatic and tragic. You’re very strong to be able to share your story and I appreciate your take on this as I also feel the need to have my phone nearby as I struggle with anxiety and will panic if I’m not able to check on my loved ones for this reason.

💯about other’s emotions. I used to be only as happy as the least happy person around me, but then I realized that wasn’t helping them. I can support them while still being happy myself. Sometimes things are hard and having tolerance for that, and patience to get through those times is better than cheerleading or being miserable too. Thank-you for saying this.

So many great things on this list. I have already adopted some of these things. I only have one child who is now approaching her 19th birthday. She lives at home and she's great help. But I find that simplifying things in my daily routine helps me take less off the plate of the people who live with me because I am disabled and rely on them for a lot of things so by simplifying my needs it transfers onto my loved ones and makes their life easier and that makes me feel great.

I've been cutting my own hair for YEARS (my oldest daughter finishes up in back by trimming my neck and makes sure I didn't miss any spots) I've never been one to get a mani/pedi on the regular. When we do, it's a treat! (like a birthday) and we go to a beauty college so the students can practice and it's a *fraction* of the cost of going to a salon!

I tried an experiment where I wrote down everything I spent each month. After two months, I stopped because it took way too much time. Now I'm back to just estimating my spending and it's working out fine. I still do a monthly budget and look for ways to save money but I don't feel compelled to account for every dime. It's close enough and I'm still meeting all my financial goals.

To the contrary, it takes very little time to quickly write down one's expenses every time. Had now been doing this habitually for many years. Every few months, copying the rough draft into a neat version, while comparing to bank statements. This way one can keep track of where the money went.

You had one of my favorite revelations in this video-- you don't have to be doing things because you THINK you have to. There's a lot of power in that statement, and it releases us from unnecessary pressure. And I love that you shared your list, while knowing others will pick different things. I still remind myself that whenever the debate starts about making beds in the a.m. For some, it's sacrosanct...for me, I shut the door. But dishes in the sink? Yep, I get it. Choices.

Also a mom of four here. I agree with you on a lot of things. Folding children's clothes makes no sense, at least between the ages of 2 and 12. I have generally learned to be less of a perfectionist. Because cleaning the house with four kids in it is a bit like brushing your teeth while eating Oreos.... Also, if you have the option for a kitchen with a door - one of the best decisions of my life. Very practical. Especially when unannounced visitors show up. And I generally don't use social media anymore, apart from RU-vid

You really do give sound advice. I was so stressed out when my children were little that I was a mess. I'm so glad that you found how to make life easier at such a young age. I keep my phone near by or in my pocket so that I don't miss important emergency calls and if there's an emergency. I take care of my elderly mother, so if something happens to her, I'm not running to fetch my phone. Plus, I don't want to miss a call from my children if they do call.

Where did you get the blanket with the flowers on it? It's adorable. You know, when I was growing up my mother cooked dinner and we children cleaned up the kitchen (of course when we got older). We had a clean and inspected kitchen within an hour of our family being done eating. I mean sweeping and mopping included. We could get a snack before bed but no mess was made. We got up to a clean kitchen every morning. The only mess that we got up to in the morning was the bed we just got out of. Everything was put up before bed. I had a wonderful childhood, but my mother taught us to clean up after ourselves and what a clean home should look like. I raised my children the same way. I know people who don't even clean the dishes off the table after dinner and never clean up the mess after they cook. Yuck. I just could not sleep knowing that mess was waiting on me the next morning. 😂 Maybe in a little OCD when it comes to certain things and that's alright.

I no longer own an iron or ironing board... Or a laundry basket. I use a laundry bag And often stuff pillowcases w/items to be laundered. Makes for easy carry, easy transport. I go to a laundromat. (For those of you that have stairs, a laundry bag with a drawstring can safely be tossed to the bottom of the stairs.) 👏 ❤ I also bring hangers in a tote, hang the hangers on rack and use the empty hanging tote to put quickly dried underwear (unfolded) & paired socks in. (I remove these garments & quick drying furry items out of dryer(s) Sooner and let the other clothes finish drying while I hang bras/furry robes/p.j.'s, fold furry blankets, etc. 😄 Note: I get to use Big washer(s) at laundromat. I sort into separate dryers: 1. Soft, furry items/sweaters. 2. Towels/linens 3. Jeans 4. Clothes

I’ve been watching your channel since your second was a newborn and having babies right alongside you. I have also had 4 babies in 5.5 years, with #4 being born last December. Two boys and two girls as well 😊 I love these tips! I already follow most of them but I could definitely benefit from using my phone less and I like the idea of no TV on weekdays! Just wanted to make one little suggestion about laundry, because I still DO file-fold all my kids clothes despite having the same problem as you. But since #1 was a toddler I have put child locks on their drawers to prevent them from messing up my folding. Of course then I have to be the one to pick out their clothes. Probably your way is better and maybe I will try it, but if you ever decide you want to go back to having nicely folded drawers, the child locks have worked out for me for years. I love your content, thank you and congratulations on your newest baby girl!

Haircuts: recently was in a bit of a financial hole whilst waiting for a property to sell could not afford haircuts. Had purchased some time back some thinning scissors, so I dug them out and started cutting and thinning my own hair with those. Finally got to hairdresser and she was able to pull it back to their standard very easily during just one visit. I had actually done a good job over all those months, considering I have short cropped hair. So I will now visit hairdressers a lot less often, which I never really enjoyed anyway. Yes we all develop bad or unnecessary habits, often due to advertising or social pressures. Just stop and try something different if causing you stress or to be unhappy

Had raised 10 children, yet never considered not folding and packing away their clothes; that would be a slippery slope when it comes to training them in how to keep their living space and clothes in order. Once they're big enough to dress by themselves, the following day's outfit can be set out for/with them before bedtime? Later we also hardly ironed anything. Besides for taking up a lot of time; ironing wastes electricity, and shortens the lifespan of garments and linen. Only later when there were few of our children still living at home, we stopped sorting laundry; when each was doing their own. It also works best for returning students, their visiting friends, and later adult children with their families, to be completely in charge of their own laundry.

This has been most helpful! Yep, sometimes I don't want to turn around or take the extra steps at that moment, but my future self appreciates this & all looks better & less cluttered. So thank you! Pregnant with my first! I appreciate this advice while I navigate how to change some habits now in preparation for baby. Some I can adopt, others I cannot for professional reasons (the ironing 😢 haha but I steam so that’s faster)…but thank you! I love the advice from a busy mom of 4!

What a great video Kallie. I wish I’d have done some of these things (or not done) whichever. I think my kids would have been so different and so would I. My first husband was a lazy, dirty slob lol. (Truth) and he wouldn’t do anything to help at home nor would he keep a job. I lost count how many times he got fired from any job he had, so I just did everything myself, including working full time with, eventually 5 children. He would just sit on his lazy arse and watch tv. Guess I would use tv as a baby sitter while I cleaned or got dinner ready etc, it just made it easier for me. I’d turn tv off though before dinner and then the kid# would have their bath or shower and then it would be story time and the older kids would read to me.even when the kids had gone to bed my work never stopped, neither would my husband’s tv time or he would be out playing some sport and on weekends he’d play more sport. He never played anything with his kids though. The kids and I were so much happier on our own though, I couldn’t believe it. Thanks for your videos Kallie I always really enjoy them, even though now I can’t do much for myself any more. I still love your ideas. Have a great week.

Safety Issue - Phones!! Having my phone with me 24/7 Is a Safety Issue for me. I am single, over 50 and live alone. So if I fall downstairs & my phone is upstairs, this could be a life or death situation. If an adult is in a hone with small children & something happens to you, who will be able to & how will help be notified? Also, Nobody has landlines any more. And by the way, who knows anyone's phone number anymore? Or when was the last time you saw a phone booth?

I dislike going to the salon. I go about every 2 years. I do look better with highlites. I have bought the home kits, but to scared, thinking my hair might fall out.... I am excited to seeing your new baby.

Correct: THEY took away most landline availability & phone booths. So most don't have Choice. ❤It Sounds like you should carry your cell phone in case of an emergency. Thus, that is the best choice for you.👋Stay Safe. Be Prepared, right?🛟🧯🙏

Great tips! I don't think I can separate from my phone anymore though especially if I'm stepping out of the house. I went out to our field to play fetch with our two dogs and I realized I forgot my phone. I thought "ah well, I'll only be 30 mins". Well, about 10 minutes in they bowled me over! Mostly our 80lb chocolate lab, but our kelpie was sorta herding the big guy for fun and the lab veered into me. I have it on video since we have cameras everywhere. I literally caught air and then landed straight onto my head. Needless to say, I got a concussion. In my head I laid there for 10 minutes but on video is was more like 2 lol. But I REALLY could not move or force myself to get it together. And since I didn't have my phone I couldn't call my husband to come out and help me so I eventually stood up and stumbled back in to our house to get him. It was awful in the moment, but kinda funny now. But still, I never leave my home without my phone even if it's just for a few mins.

I love these, and I love how you want the best for yourself and your family! ❤❤❤ I'm with you on the hair stuff. I might get mine cut once a year. I literally only use clarifying shampoo. Every once in a while I'll do a conditioner treatment. That's new to me. I'm thinking about doing some of these to feel like I'm actually living my life. Thank you.

Yep I quit going to the hair salon for highlights because the prices are just crazy in my area so I just dye it at home- doesn’t look as good but saves me over 1k per year…..I also don’t iron- downy wrinkle release works great for the few times I do need to iron every month

The DAY I turned 35 I suddenly love no, _desire_ all forms of ironing! I sincerely think that I'm broken. My kids have crushed my entire system of logic & reason. But that's okay. I warned them years ago that I wasn't saving for their college. No, no I saved up for their therapy. They're truly gonna need it after living alone with me, for 20+ years! 😂😂😂😂❤

I am so lucky I live in a country where you will find a man or woman in a shop on the street or in the the basement of apartments who will collect your clothes and return them all pressed. Some of them use old fashioned heavy duty iron. They charge per piece of clothing they iron. It is a win win solution. You don't waste your time a person is gainfully employed and makes a living. Bonus you get neatly ironed clothes with no effort on your part.

I am totally with you on the notifications. I do not need that level of interaction/distraction from my phone. In fact, I set my phone so NO notifications show up EVER lol, and ringtone and text tone are SUPER low. I used to have it so I didn't get any sounds at all ever, for texts or calls (I look at my phone enough to know if I need to call or text someone back), but now that I need to hear my phone if work calls, I turned my ringer and text tones back on.... but still super low, haha.
