I am often miffed by the underwhelming reaction of people whose garden has literally been rescued from disaster, yet they respond with so little enthusiasm that it leaves me wondering if the effort was worth it or perhaps all that kind energy could have gone to someone who would value it more and understand the magnitude of the work done. You are truly the epitome of good nature.

I would be over the moon, I have yet to see a person remotely grateful or happy someone did them such a HUGE favor that would cost them a lot of money or days of really hard work. I'm working the last three months on my garden which is in a STATE after it wasn't worked on for a decade (it was my grandmother's) and it's SO hard, if anyone was willing to give me a real hand I would work with them all day, order food and drinks and literally pester them with my gratitude.

I think in a lot of cases, if they cared at all, their yards wouldn’t look like that in the first place. This doesn’t happen overnight, especially all the rubbish.

There are givers and there are takers and some in between. The givers do so because that is the sort of person they want to be, not because of any thanks they may get. Their reward is knowing they have done a good job and helped someone else. It is quite amazing how big that reward can be!

I asked my Dad to build a ramp for my Gram so that she could walk off the porch and talk a little walk. At the end of that ramp I put a Victorian style bench and planted her a butterfly garden. My brother took care of her for 13 years, then it was my turn for 8 years. We did this because she took care of us when we needed it most and we’re grateful. 🙏

Mate, there must be days when you can't face all the physical work or it's raining and want to stay in bed. Still, you are not stuck in an office and you get all that exercise and fresh air, so you really are a winner. To top it all off, you are helping people in need. That makes you a champion in my book. I wonder if they had to tear down an old fence in a hurry and make the yard dog proof. Looks like old fencing to me. Then when the parents came they have been really busy inside. Sometimes you only get part of a day notice that a person needs to come to you for care. Got to love them for caring for 2 Dads. 😍

I wish I'd had access to RU-vid years ago when I was your age - I liked doing this sort of work but was often very frustrated that the people who needed the help most were the ones I couldn't help because they couldn't afford to pay me, it must be such a joy to be able to offer to help people without needing to charge by the hour. Since I retired I have helped a couple who are unable to keep their garden tidy who live near me. Being kind is so rewarding.

I understand the tall weeds, etc. if one is elderly/disabled or cannot take care of it for another reason, but I will NEVER understand why someone’s home/property becomes a waste dump. Once again, Mr. Ben, you SHINE!!!!!

Perhaps they don't have a vehicle to take items to the dump? If life is too busy and the garden already a mess and a place they overt their eyes from, perhaps it's just easier to dump the unwanted junk there and "deal with it later" which never comes? Kinda the same way we fill up spare rooms with items waiting to be taken to the charity shop, or the garage with projects for a rainy day? It's easy to judge, but if people aren't using the garden as a space to relax in, then I suppose it becomes a storage space?

I could not believe that anyone would throw so much rubbish into their garden and leave it for years. Ben was incredible, he worked so hard for those people and they found it difficult to say thank you.
