The Last Waltz (2002)
¡IMPORTANT!
If anyone thinks they have footage (audience or professional) or an audience recording that no one else has (or that I haven't published) and wants to make it public, they can contact me.
¡IMPORTANT!
I never liked that they shortened the songs so that the movie didn't last that long, or at least they could have given them as bonus material for the 40th anniversary

Wednesday August 9, 2023. The world is mourning the loss of Robbie Robertson, who died Wednesday at 80. Guitarist and songwriter for The Band, Robertson was the driving force behind the group's string of iconic hits in the late 1960s and early '70s, including "The Weight", "The Shape I'm In", and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down". Following news of Robertson's death, celebrities have been taking to social media to pay tribute. Among those honouring Robertson's memory is director Martin Scorsese, a longtime friend and collaborator, who issued a statement to NBC News. "Robbie Robertson was one of my closest friends, a constant in my life and my work," said Scorsese. "It goes without saying that he was a giant, that his effect on the art form was profound and lasting," he added.

The vulnerabilty of the composition and the performance is conveyed in Rick's vocals and Garth's solo so superably. As perfect as it is, in the intechangeable roles in The Band I have always been curious how Richard's vocal would have worked on this masterpiece, he so naturally bared his tender side to his vocal performances. Even though I was only a teen, I am so glad I saw these guys perform a couple of times.

If not for the brilliance of Robbie Robertson, the world would not have this amazing performance and movie to enjoy almost 50 years later. I saw somewhere Levon complained that Robbie was acting like a conductor that night and was a bit much and all for his ego. It was necessary for what the production of The Last Waltz called for. That's the difference between a player and a producer, so i guess you can say It does make a difference. When you've more ego than brilliance drugs is the usual next choice in the music world. If you disagree with me then ask yourself why the other Band members did not continue to make waves in their careers because they wanted to play the same Ole songs that made em famous and not want to contribute or grow beyond. When they decided to it was too late the world moved on. But luckily we've The Last Waltz the best Musical Documentary ever Produced as that timeless gift.

I like Rick Danko's bass guitar playing. Aspects of this: using a pick, sometimes playing double and triple stops, using the wrap around thumb to stop notes. Of course it is not about technique.
