maybe he is scottish in the show and he's related to tommy hunter but he's just been putting on and english accent this whole time and it'll eventually come out that he's scottish? :P

Agreed. No family members have ever been mentioned either. Would have made more sense to be a mancunian accent. However it is the BBC, so maybe it was just that they wanted their main character to speak more “bbc”

@@travelwell6049 Or maybe they wanted a spread of accents. Adrian Dunbar is Irish, Vicky McClure is from Nottingham and both use their real accents. So you have one Celtic character, one from the Midlands and one from South East England. To have Martin Compston use his real accent would've been an imbalance of Celtic accents.
