Hear what Nickleback's drummer, Daniel Adair, has to say about his custom DW kits. Daniel discusses his setups and how he chose from the nearly endless CUSTOM choices (shell configuration, sizes, finishes, etc...). Adair also remarks on his first trip to the DW Custom Shop in Oxnard, California.
When you play for a multi-platinum mega group like Nickelback and need the perfect kit for your upcoming
stadium tour, theres only one place to go: the DW Custom Shop in California. For this particular tour set up, Daniel went with SSC, or Specialized Shell Configuration. SSC utilizes the latest advancements from the DW Custom Shop including VLT, X and VLX shell technologies.
The result is a kit with a full tonal spectrum. A set with enough warmth and clarity for the studio, but all of the guts and volume to project in any sold-out arena.

I was lucky enough to buy one of Daniel's snare drums (long story) when he changed over to DW. I bought a Reference Series Pearl one from him and he signed it for me and was THE nicest guy and very modest and humble. He really is the nicest guy in rock.

I am a new drummer and have always loved Nickleback. I've seen them in concert 5 times and always loved the drummer. I was in the market for a new kit and my coach suggested DW. I thought I would find out what drums Dan played and when I saw he was a DW fan, I was sold. I love his style. Thanks for the video.

@1DrummerNick my pleasure! MSRP (list) is about $10,700 which translate to an estimated "street price" of $6,400. This does not include pedals and stands/rack, but does account for the Edge™ snare drum.

...2 - You can use the same idea for a deeper bass drum with any other drum, too. A 14x14 would have less sustain then a 12x14 because the traveling distance of the frequency. You can also go with a lower toned X or VLX grained shell and this will also cut down on the decay time. Thanks for asking!

I did, i didn't wanna say it my last comment because i wasn't sure, i thought i twas only a rumor but when i started my us tour last year i bought and fell majorly in love with it. I now use one of the old cx kits... I used to play a Pearl Refenerence... You know how beauitful they sound... My Pdp, sounds a billions times better. I cant wait to hear how a Dedub sounds with my tuning! Oh and for the record, thanks so mush for the 9000 pedals! Ten years playing and i never felt something so good!!

@Jcozzi89 The last kit Jose got from us was a Gold Flake Lacquer Specialty with Gold Hardware as seen in our DW Artist Wallpaper. This price does not include the Rata Toms or Snare Drums, but includes an extra kick. Here's the sizes: 5x8, 5x10, 6x12, 13x16, and 14x18 toms, with a 18x20 and 18x22 kick. [insert drumroll here.....] MSRP (list) = $21,575 and the "Street Price" estimate is about $14,000. This does not include any stands, pedals, cymbals. Cheers!

Hey there buddy! The deeper the shell the less sustain so go with the deeper sizes to achieve that tone. Also with the VLT you will have a lower note in the shell and that will help to take from the sustain also!

right on. your best bet is probably a collector's series ssc kit. That's going to be the most versatile and give you that clean punchy modern low-pitched sound (enough adjectives?) that will do your genre justice. If you're looking to save a little bread, PDP is a great low-cost option. Platinum kits are about 500 miles away from being DW kits (they are made in ensenada mexico with all the same materials and standards...just less custom options).

Hey there! Got some answers for you below. 1 - A deeper bass drum will give more attack. Also a higher tuning would also because of a tighter head would not want to vibrate as much. With a deeper bass drum, the frequencies can not travel back and forth as frequent because of the distance being longer...

I don't understand why so many people hate Nickelback. They were one of the top bands in the world, then it somehow became "Cool" to hate them. i don't get it...

It is important to stay ahead and note the importance for musicians in general. And the great decision to use a shell ssc + exotic finishes make a noble product reputation in the music world ....

@donnyfox123 correct. lowest level is just discounted pricing. There are many levels in between. Most include at least one free kit.

The VLX will be the lowest between the 2. The VLX is best used for bass drums. Thanks for asking!

We are not saying we would not make you a whole kit of VLX but we think it would be too low toned for some of the rack tom sizes.

Absolutely! They are made at our factory in Ensenada Mexico with the same standards as our California workshop. They really are GREAT drums for the $. But don't take my word for it. Go to a dealer and hit em ;)

@tameemz90 that's a great question! Being known/famous usually means you have other endorsements and a touring schedule. This helps a lot. It also helps for you to be FREAKISHLY good. But if you ARE that good, you're probably famous. If you're not famous, and THAT good, I would suggest putting together a band, make a record, play some shows, and get famous. @punkrockdrummer1990 there are different levels of endorsement. We do not pay any of our endorsers (never have, never will), instead we give them drums and hardware, and/or discount pricing. Different people have different allotments. But let's say a metaler like Derek Roddy wanted a 11 piece exotic kit. We'd give it to him. ;) Hope that answers your question.

they can put as many guys out there but all I know is anything I ever owned from DW busted within a year whether it be pedals, thrones, stands, eben the practice pad kit. I learned my lesson after that one

@ZackaryBratton546 basically you need to have a serious record deal, tour dates, and some other endorsements from well-known companies. Then fill out an app you can find on our website. RU-vid is not allowing hyperlinks at the moment, so the way to get there is dwdrumsDOTcom then go to "Info" then "Frequently Asked Questions". It's too bad they've priced themselves right out of the "working man's" market. I just purchased a 6 piece Tama Starclassic B/B kit (3 high/2 low) 8,10,12,14,16, 22...no snare for about 2K. The same configuration for a DW was is about 6K. They are nice drums but I really don't see or hear a 4k difference.

I mount my tomtoms the same way right off tbe rack with the v-clamp and l bracket into the tom mount. And I thought I was doing it wrong.

to get a successful endorsement you just need to be able to advertise the companies equipment, everytime someone sees daniel adair play, they see he uses a DW kit, hear a DW kit, hence people wanting to buy his equipment.

@willystyles07 He's actually a really good drummer, from what I've heard from him; he doesn't show it much, but he has some serious chops when he chooses to use them. I was watching a video that was titled something like "Best metal double kick song intros", Nickelback was there beside Behemoth, Nile, and other such bands, and it wasn't out of place at all.

yikes. the best? That's all subjective my friend. You can easily afford a custom DW kit for $4500. Next you have to choose what series (Collectors, Jazz, Classics, EcoX) or PDP. You can get a top-of-the-line PDP kit for under $2000. What kind of sound are you going for?
