That's a question I get a fair amount, I only do it for rental karts and there are a couple reasons. I sit as close as possible to the steering wheel. If I try to steer normally I feel like I have less range of movement because I end up bending my arms in weird ways to turn fully to one side or the other. The other reason, might be a placebo effect but, I feel like it reduces arm strain. By changing where I place my hands, I get different leverage for turning. I've done multiple all day race events, and it seems like it helped. shrug The karts are fast, but not so fast that I haven't had time to get my hands in position for whatever turn was coming up, so it hasn't cost me yet. 😅
