The funniest movie without a doubt of all time, so many wonderful stars that cannot be matched today. My grandmother was the girlfriend of Dick Shawn in High School, how awesome is that.
that is really cool. and I agree the funniest movie I've ever seen. My mom told me the next day it's the only time she had a sore stomach the next day after a movie from laughing so much !!!!
My dad worked for Pan American and shared a first class seat wit Joe E. Brown from Honolulu to San Francisco. They talked and talked and Joe E. Brown was a first class act from beginning to end. How awesome was that?
@@robertthikkurissy8435 My dad, brother and I watch this film all the time! And we actually like to think what if they redid this movie, but with an all-star cast in the present! We always debate on who would play what character! As of now, we have Dwayne Johnson playing the truck driver, Ashton Kutcher playing Russell, Anna Kendrick playing Emmaline and Jennifer Aniston playing Mrs. Marcus! 🤣🤣
It should be remade with the very same soundtrack by Ernest Gold. Saw this as a ten year old at the old Savoy that nine years later became an X-rated theatre and it burned down one hot summer night.@@bellerain381 Great movie!
Jerry Lewis running over his hat - on purpose! - This was also filmed in Malibu and Balboa Park, San Diego. I remember seeing this film as a kid when it came out, and it is one of our family favorites, this and THE GREAT RACE! THANKS, FRED!!
No parts of this movie were filmed anywhere near Balboa Park in San Diego. The Big W was a creation of the movie makers on the Palos Verde peninsula in Los Angeles.
Saw it when it came out as a little kid in a beautiful, old 1920's theater. Wasn't in cinemascope though. I remember the line at the cinema went all the way down the block and people dressed up to go as it was a big deal. Now when I see it or hear the music it makes me sad somehow. Different times for sure. I still laugh watching it though. I think it's time to watch with the family again.
This is the first movie that I saw in a theater. Toledo, Ohio, 1963, late August, early September. I was just beginning first grade that year. This brings me back to the time when the U.S. was on top and President Kennedy was just months short of his assassination. Wonderful movie, happy and sad time.
That scene was filmed in Long Beach, CA The area looks totally different now, but I sometimes drive by and it chokes me up as well. What a great moment in the movie.
@@LAFan Always loved that scene, too. Maybe b/c my dearly departed grandparents introduced me to this film -- and because nearly everyone in it is now deceased -- I tend to choke up a bit myself whenever I get a chance to rewatch it. That said, it's still funny as h**** -- a great satire on underside of human nature that is perhaps more relevant now than ever . . . .
my favorite scene is when his hat blows out into the street and that unnamed character *deliberately* goes out of his way just to run over it and tick him off, lol!
For me it is the music played when Tracy gets his slouch hat from the back seat of the car and shapes it just to suit him before donning it. That hat was his trademark in many films and I think they were playing an homage to his career.
This film has so many longtime admirers! Loyal and upbeat! Way to go! I saw it as a young teen when it first came out - C-I-N-E-R-A-M-A theater in S-Y-O-S-S-E-T, Long Island, NY and at he Walt Whitman Mall Century Theater. Sat thru it TWICE there and was going for a third sitting when my Dad came in and yanked me out! Haha! Seen it once or twice in theaters since then, so I am due for another theatrical showing. Nice down suite, here, sir. I b ought the mono St and then traded up to t he stereo issue when I actually got a stereo. Many memories of happier times.
A wondrous soundtrack. Music for a day at an old amusement park. A crazy/funny tale of greed from a better time. God keep Mr. Kramer, the cast and crew - Forever!
There will never, never, never be anything in comedy remotely like this movie picture....... the absolutely greatest creation of all time in terms of plot, cast, performances, etc... an everlasting hit...... future generations will surely enjoy it.....
My Uncle Lance LeGault was an actor, & he also was a stuntman before that. He came for a visit, & I had him watch the stunts with the cars, Sylvester, Milton, all of them, & just watching, he said to me"I know the man that created those stunts"! He wanted to watch it all. I sent it home with him. It must have really brought back some great memories. I love it, & wish I had personally known the actors. 💗💗
Einfach erfreulich!
'Walk down the streets like a king! Back to the old neighborhood...see the fellas. The dames...the dames all with a big hello. Big hello for old Smiler. Good old Smiler...everybody's friend."
This will always be one of my all-time favorite movies! The music is fabulous, and it makes me feel like a little kid again c: Thank you so much for posting this!
I saw this the first time in 1963, when I was 14 and our church (I think) sponsored a trip to see ITMMMMW, maybe for a fundraiser. I was old enough that my mom would allow me to go alone and take the local bus to downtown area to see movies. I remember seeing this again about 30 days later. Then I saw it several times during my school years and by 1968, I went to São Paulo, Brasil to be a missionary for my church. I saw that it was playing there, and most movies from the US were played in English, with closed captions for the Brasileiros. Then, in the era of VHS, I had a copy which I watched more than once with my kids. And just 2 weeks ago, I bought a copy of it for myself on DVD and watched it again and every time I see it again, I see something new.
Went to the Imperial theater on Bleury St. in Montreal, Quebec to see this film in Cinerama. My first and last date with Betty Scott. Laughed for hours. I was a movie buff for years as Montreal had dozens of movie houses. This remains the funniest film I've ever seen, a wonderful lifelong memory.
You did an awesome job Fred. You know it hard to get good movies now. I just let one of my best friend watch it now hes mad about its a mad mad mad world! his favorite part is wen J. Russell Finch [Milton Berle] & J. Algernon Hawthorn {Terry Thomas] are fighting when the crash J. Algernon Hawthorn car. lol
Hey Frederick! this is the absolute original version of that theme and so the first ever recorded version, conducted by the composer ernest gold, for the movie :-)
This is being shown during the TCM Film Festival 2013 at the Cinerama Dome. I have the good fortune of being able to attend this year's festival and see it as it was originally shown in "63" at Cinerama Dome. This is one of my favorite comedies!!
As a kid, when the old dude literally kicked the bucket I didn’t understand why my parents burst out laughing. As an adult, when I saw that part again I lost it LMAOOOOO!!!!!
Jonathan Winters ,aka Pike memorium , technically he s the one who won the whole thing cause of discovering the big W while chasing the man with the glasses aka Phil Silvers.
Has there ever been ANY film that featured this many big name stars? The closest one I can think of mayhave been 'How The West Was Won'.....released around the same time? Saw them both in Cinerama.
Saw both of those movies at the cinerama theater in Denver when I was just a lad and the world was very different from today. Seeing them noe, I don't think that HTWWW really stands up although a magificent musical sacore to be sure but Mad Mad Mad Mad World still so funny that when I see it I could plotz.
Me and my family love this move! My favorite part is wen Otto Meyer {Phil Silvers} Trick Lennie Pike { Jonathon Winters } and then pike destroys the gas station! lol Did you know one of the gas station worker had a broken arm be for shooting the film and still did it.
yes there is! it contains the cover i also used for the video. the cd was released by la-la land records back in 2011, limited to 2000 copies. take a look on this site: soundtrackcollector . com/title/9296/It%27s+A+Mad+Mad+Mad+Mad+World all the best! Fred
If you ever go to an In-N-Out burger and see the palm trees outside. That is in honor of this brilliant film (the big W) which the founder loved so much.
If everyone woke up in the world each day, and put this soundtrack on, the world would be a better place for they would realize it's an insane world full of false beliefs about each other, and somehow we should find a way to laugh more together instead of constantly be mean to and bitch about each other. that goes for you at the top of the food chain too.
I didn't know LaLa Land put this out. I have an edition where some dialogue was included between each track. I get the idea but had to make a copy and playlist without the dialogue. I have a number of LaLa Land's releases and they always do a great job. I'll be getting it tomorrow if they still have it! Thanks for printing the source info.
+John Fugazzi Hello John, I have that old Rykodisc album, too. Its not a hit (the album tracks are included on the La-La Land one anyway) but the Interview segments are interesting. The acclaimed sound mixer Ray Faiola (known for preparing the BYU or the SAE releases) said this La-La Land edition was his most complicated task! But you will read that in the booklet or on the website maybe. Enjoy it! Fred
I wish you could obtain permission to post Exodus. I thought it was public domain since there are so many versions of it on You Tube. By the way, how do you go about correcting mistakes on youtube?? There is an Amazon Classic Film Scores version of Exodus and the tracks are all misidentified. I find mistakes every day. Their algorithms need to be improved. Doesn’t anyone proofread their work in the Silicon Valley?
Well, yes...goofey, funny...lacks the, at times, really "slap-stick" continual true laughs, but...what a cast! Even my famous cousin, Red Skelton had a bit part in it. And, the funniest part: the end when all the "greedy guys" went swinging in the air from their rescue by the fire department via the long long hook and ladder truck. First time as well as the next two times or so seeing the movie, I just laughed so much that tears were running out of my eyes!
If I found the money I could go to a convent.. how come we have the Imperial and coming last...He's going the wrong way. Why can't you have a little faith in me ,what are you! the hostess, He's done it again, this is a little girls bike you better get that bike of the road someone could trip over it in the dark your buggin me man,I said it before and I'll say it again' I didn't want to move to Californi....I must get round to watch this movie..
Hey, Fred. To be quite frank, I realized the mistake after it was too late. Frankly, I'm sorry. Anyway, I thought your labeling was giving the track listing for the soundtrack. But I guess you were just listing which themes correspond with the beats in the track, correct?
I wonder if this film was trynig to portray what it will be like today ? look at the big corporations, look at the greed , its right in front of your eyes. "Whats the point of being the best if its brings out the worst in you"
Unfortunately, I am more of a realist. Laughter is great, but accepting of what's real is even greater. The world is partially mad, but also partially great.
