I came to Nigeria with my family last year and we went to Landmark Beach. My children were pleasantly surprised at the quality , facilities and ambience. The pictures taken looked as if we were in any other exotic holiday destination in the world. We had an awesome time and my kids want to return to Nigeria annually if possible. @@aframaco9491 Don't say that about the Nigerian government. They always choose the most stupid course of action and plough through with it regardless of the consequences. I remember when I was in law school in 2007, I was debating that the government will never reverse the sale of two refineries to Dangote and Otedola's Bluestar consortium because the sale made absolute sense. I recall a colleague called Bala who kept repeating to me that the deal was not a done deal, that it will be reversed and truly it was reversed. 18 years later, Nigeria has wasted billions of dollars on the refineries even as they produce nothing. In addition, Nigeria has wasted hundreds of billions of its scarce dollars importing petrol after Bluestar had promised that if allowed to keep the two refineries they would produce all the petrol Nigeria requires within one year. Even if they didn't do it in one year, they would have achieved it in 2,3,4 or 5 years if government set the target as a term of the sale. They would have saved Nigeria an absolute fortune. Yet, Nigeria continues to hold on to these refineries. Destroying landmark estate will be a very small thing for the Nigerian government to do. They have done worse and are still doing worse

It's extremely easy to bypass this resort if there is a honest intention to build a coastal road. But I know they not finna build no coastal road. For me, I think Nigeria doesn't need a coastal road at all. We need deep sea ports along the eastern and western coast line as well as rail lines running all the way to the north. This coastal road is extremely limited in the terms of the value it can bring to the country's development compared to deep sea ports and rail both of which can be built by private investors at no cost to the government. I know the project will never be completed, but even if it is completed, what will Nigeria gain if I can drive my car from Lagos to Calabar along the coast? Is it not the same coast that is constantly being eroded? Right now, I can drive from Lagos to Calabar so what's special about a coastal road? They just want to grab this man's land because of their greed and Nyma the bigot is fully in support

I have always respected Nyma’s views and I’d like to think she’s having an off day today. Her question to the Landmark guy was insensitive. Businesses are frustrated in Nigeria by govt actions and inaction. We need the private sector such as Landmark to support with job creation and the development of our tourism industry. Demolishing a tax paying company that recruits thousands of Nigerians doesn’t make any sense. A coastal expressway isn’t what we want in Nigeria at this time but for both Federal and State govt to enhance the quality of life of Nigerians through provision of affordable housing, security, education and health services. The countries that built coastal roads prioritised these basic necessities before embarking on such projects.

I've been reading, researching and documenting extensively for the past 4 years, I can tell you categorically that they purposely chose the Landmark route to pacify some homeowners that have interests in government. Why deviate from the original route? One reason is because Landmark had spent dozens of millions in dollars to secure the shoreline from erosion. Whereas towards a property belonging to a heavyweight along the shoreline, they deviated from the shoreline and realigned the road inland. Why the double standards?

The level of ignorance in Nigeria is frightening. Many people don't know that even if the man went through proper legal processes to build these businesses, nothing stops the Govt from acquiring the assets. The Govt only has to declare EMINENT DOMiAIN and 'the public good' to forcefully acquire the said assets. However, it must pay CURRENT MARKET VALUE for the assets so dispossessed. You're the one who's being extremely ignorant here. First of all, everybody knows the government is not going to pay this man for the seizure of his property and that's why it's better to leave the property alone. Secondly, the government has been demolishing houses for over 30 years without compensation and transferring the land to their friends that's why people are right to be worried. Thirdly, the fact that the government has the power to take over private property doesn't mean they should go on rampage demolishing and seizing properties year after year even when 95% of the seized properties end up in other private hands. There must be an overriding public interest for these seizures and presently, a beautiful resort like that serves the nation's economy better than a shady coastal road. The best thing to do with coastal areas is to turn them into resorts to boost tourism and create jobs, this man has done it admirably. Why should the government pay out $200 million just to re-purchase a few miles of coastal land? That is certainly not the best use of tax payers money. Currently, people drive daily from Lagos to Calabar and this road will add nothing new to the nation's economy especially when compared to the demolitions that will take place. The money about to be wasted on this white elephant project would much better be spent on other things while private investors can be invited to build deep sea ports and rail lines on the Easter and western coast. Deep sea ports will make international trade easier and cheaper for Nigerians, that's what we need
