Ashley, Thank you for re-explaining Shou Sugi Ban to new watchers. I enjoy watching the kids talk about more significant roles on the homestead. I watch every video as a reminder of how much I enjoyed living in Phoenix. If I still lived there, I would come to help you guys; I love group projects. From Aussie land here guys. If you haven't already made plans for the old deck I reckon it would be a great task/project for the kids to build a very simple shelter with a slanted roof and to be used as a teenager retreat.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the chimenea works out. I get so much wind it’s rare I feel ok with a fire ring and considered a chimenea. I understand work surfaces but you guys always build at least in video looks like a long way away. Tiny shiny workout routine !! Homesteading is definitely a physical challenge but in such a good way. I contemplate a time when all projects are complete.

You could move the old deck up to next to the airport and have alot off your outside plants on it , it will create a nice place out from under the airport that you can also sit on and with all the plants around it will be really nice

Your making biochar with all that scarping of the wood after the shou sugi ban. You should gather it up and combine it with some chicken compost for some activated biochar :)

Especially now that I see how pretty it looks on your patio. Looks really good I'd buy some Mexican or hippie boho material and make covers for chairs to add a pop of colour..and cleanable mix and match whenever you feel like it. I do love white, though i have lived on a farm with red soil and sometimes a change is needed with seasons (and hides the dirt hehe)
We put our outdoor table set in the kitchen we built adjacent to our barn...it's our hang out spot till the house. The outdoor set was way more comfortable than our kitchen set. 😛
you should definately build some patio raised garden beds for herbs n veggies from pellet wood. easier to make and repurpose since the water is close by.
