Jonathan & Ashley Longnecker and their 4 kids are building naturally and sustainably off-grid in Cochise County, Arizona providing wholesome entertainment and useful educational resources for those interested in getting back to nature, spending more time with their family, and learning to be more self sufficient.
We're sharing our story while we create a desert homestead from the ground up using natural building methods and permaculture inspired designs. Join us on our journey to a sustainable homesteading oasis in the desert with new videos every Tuesday & Saturday morning!
Do you know anyone that wants to move to your location(county)? This family has 9+ acres and are moving to Arkansas. They did not ask me to post this. They have about an acre fenced off to keep the cattle out. Thanks
Well I did a hearty chuckle when they finally gave it a go. Thank you. When I made my chickens a ‘chicken swing’ not one of them ever tried it 😢 not in years. It was a good thought though 🤣 🇳🇿
Out of experience of putting up swings, I would suggest you put some grease on the caribiners at the top by the metal bracket. It helps them last longer. Also, check it periodically for wear and tear, when the goats finally discover the swing
You are living the life of my oldest dreams! I love how you all work as a well-oiled machine! No traditional school can teach those kids what they are learning by building creating appreciating all that this beautiful planet has to offer!! You ALL are my heroes!!
Hi best practice I do in south Australia is every time I start project is write down all the parts you need and if going to the hardware shop 1 trip is better the old saying measure twice and cut once but still have fun the offgrid dreamers
Funny story: I'm 4 hours from the nearest hardware store and I sat down and worked out the cost of fuel to keep going to the hardware store was ridiculous. So I bought like 12 of every nut bolt washer etc and set up storage for everything and labelled it. Problem is everyone in my tiny town knows I have that stock and comes to me to buy it from me instead of travelling. I by sheer accident started my own mini hardware store and I make 100% profit on everything. Things you discover when your off grid to make money to support your free lifestyle hey? Best wishes from Australia 🦘🦘
It’s nearly finished and is looking amazing.I hope you told the goats you put the shelter up to help keep them cool ha ha..I love the swing idea, once they get used to it they will play on it fine..Sending you all love 🥰
You know, what makes a pro isn't that they don't make mistakes... it's that they know how to rearrange things so it looks like it was designed that way in the First Place!😂
Such a great job. Soon all will be complete. I am waiting for next request, all kids projects will just help homestead grow. Awesome job 👍 to one and all. Also my Goat shirt is a favorite of mine, good design, super soft shirt and great fit. It is also holding up to washing really well.
I want to build an earthen home as much as anything, but unfortunately I have several debilitations that make it impossible (pinched nerves all over my spine, anemia, fibromyalgia, and psoriatic arthritis, oh and ME/CFS, of course...) I started researching sustainable building and farming practices about 15 years ago and my plan was to build right in your neighborhood! We actually own several parcels just down the road to the south of your homestead! I also researched affordability and great weather, and right where you are is about as good as it gets! Until then, we are in Ohio and have a little permaculture oasis in our small town lot (under .2 acres) Thanks for sharing your journey!
there are lots of kinds of deserts.... where we are is a subtropical desert. we're part of the Chihuahuan and the Sonoran Desert... :) deserts can still have plants...classification of a desert only has to do with the rainfall...so yes, we live in the desert:)
I didn't see if you cut the ends off the eye bolts on the bottom of the goat swing. Just make sure that nothing is protruding that they can get hooked on or hurt themselves on or they will.
Wow i am so happy to see your video, i have seen land out there but was worried about planting my food but now i know thank you 🙏 You are a lovely beautiful family best wishes 🙏❤️☮️
