I just caught another swarm. No wrangling involved they just moved into an empty box(YES I AM STOKED). Hive number 3 this year. I lost 2 (they were weak hives when I brought them home) I didn't do 41 but I have bees now. I know everyone says to start with 2 hives, that did not pan out, I will be content with the one very strong swarm I caught in my front yard. 5 full frames in a nuk I have to be ready to move them into a 10 frame box, they are bringing pollen in like mad. I tried to feed these bees they do not want sugar syrup, they ignore it. But in 60 seconds I estimate 200 bees carried pollen in. They are coming back heavy, just loaded down with white pollen.(some little vine with little white flowers grows all over S.W. Florida) I used a long tack with a very small diameter or a sharp knife and carefully punch small holes, it doesn't have to be very big, bees tongues(proboscis) are little. I don't put feeder jars on the hive I have had issues with robbing(my hives were weak) so I feed away from the hive, they can smell the sugar water so they go to it but only in death, right now they don't want it, the ants get it.(another reason to feed away from the hive). I think I like swarm traps more than wrangling. A whole lot less work. Yours and the DirtRoosters competition should be 2 parts. Part 1 wrangling. Part 2 swarm trapping. The two of you should get together and do a video on the seasons end as well. Happy Beekeeping to you.

Joe, the wrangling competition wouldn't be fair, Mr. Ed doesn't charge, Randy does. Maybe some kind of handicap? Congratulations on your swarm catch! We had a huge swarm next to our front porch about 19 years ago, that should've been a clue, but I didn't know anything about bees. I also had 2 goats show up, I should've listened to that one too.

An old bow saw. Developed in the 1940s. ( May go farther back than that.) used a lot in forestry, logging, pulpwood industry in the southeastern states. I am sure they were used elsewhere also. The bowbar had it’s dangers and was used for bucking mostly. It fell out of favor for the “less” dangerous and more useful straight bar.

What us crazy beekeepers do to get a hive of bees. Bad ass chainsaw. I took a hive out of a building about a month ago and I had the same problem liquid honey and soft wax I put in 2 five gallon buckets that I let the yard Rob it out. I didn’t have the fancy vacuum so I sprayed them down good with sugar water and dumped them by the handfuls in a hive after I rubber banded as much brood comb as I could. I was not sure if I got the queen. Sealed up the hive and took it a new location. Luckily I got the queen and this hive exploded to the point I had to put 2 deeps on top so they had room to put the fall flow. I had to use a sawzal while 20 feet in the air on a lift and of course it started raining.
