Four Uni-Vibe-style pedals that are new to us, alongside one of our current faves
Welcome to the show! Today we’re embarking on a rip-roaring romp through a bunch of the ‘latest’ Uni-Vibe-style pedals to arrive with us. Yes, we knowthat banging through Hendrixisms is old hat… and that there are endless digital versions of this sound that do a decent job. But to hell and damnation with all of that. This is That Pedal Show, so it’s loud, analogue and rooted deeply in the kind of bone-shaking rock’n’roll that’s going to get you into trouble. Erm, even sat on stools… on RU-vid. Ahem. Born to be mild?

Tube Driver, real tape echo, that reverb, those fuzzes - into a Hiwatt! Possibly your most audacious rig? Wonderful stuff boys, sounded really, really good. And really loud!

I picked up a Ghost Vibe after watching the show. My search for a Deja Vibe continues... or maybe it ends! Big fan of Fulltone pedals, but found out Trufi is not that far from me, so I got one. Many pedals come, go and come and go again and again on my board, but the sweet sound mojo vibe is one of the few pedals that has never left it’s home. It’s Velcro is as clean as the day I dropped it into place.

Nothing like that hypnotic, underwater, psychedelic, Throb. I have the Drybell (which is good) but the best one I have ever heard is The Shiftee Vibe = OMG. Great tones & playing gents. You both were playing-Inspired. Huge Trower fan. These all sounded Legit.

Awesome! My Thorpy ER-2 arrived on Tuesday and it is unbelievable. I just posted in the Facebook group that it connects straight to my soul in inexplicable ways. Also upgraded my power to a Gigrig Gen X 14 which is amazing!

Gentlemen how wonderful to see you back in your studio doin’ that pedal thang. Very nice to see the DR103 in practical use. I like this kind of episode best myself but have to confess that I have never “gotten” vibe pedals and even with your teaching still don’t which of course saves me money because I don’t end up buying one. Best always my friends

Some great tones! I use a a cheap Mosky CH'Vibe Mini Vibe pedal(however it is optical ) into any one of my BluesBreaker pedals and it just gives this great chewy feel AND sound! Love it! Great video guys! Have a great weekend!

I first heard Dark Side of the Moon in 1987 at 9years old, several years before learning the guitar. I had no idea what a vibe pedal was but there was a sound on that album that I loved. I’ve been univibe obsessed ever since.

Hello guys, nice episode 🙂 A couple of things to note about Hiwatts, since I have a 1974 100W. The high impendance inputs are the lower ones, on the upper inputs guitars sound a bit mushy. Bridging the channels with cable also reduces impednace I think . I get the best tone by using a lehle p-split, sending two independent cables to lower inputs (lower Normal and Brill) AND ground lift the one (ground lift button on lehle p-split). This way, it retains the clarity and glassines, glorious tones.

Just the very beginning......that HiWatt DR103 is the one for me. Holy Moly Fellas! Why go home? Only thing missing was the lub-dub DryBell Vibe Machine, the Pedal Whisperer made that one of your best episodes both tonally and educationally. That was one of best sounds in a long time and that is saying something; cause I don't think I have ever really heard a bad one on this channel.

Fantastic episode Gents - Still my favourite vibe is my (now discontinued) Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe. It's the pedal that's lasted the longest on my board - about 18 or so years - nothing too fancy - photocell and sounds correct - two knobs - turned at either 11:00 & 2:00 or 2:00 an 11:00 and bliss ensues

Starting at about 9:30 minutes: I never heard or cared about that sound beyond all of the Hendrix I grew-up on. Literally. I never heard anyone even try to duplicate that sound where it didn't put me to sleep. This is making new wrinkles on my brain.

Happy to see this one. Vibe is one of my favourite sounds. As for the chorus/vibrato switching, one presumes the usual wet/dry shenanigans would be deliciously unleashed with that switch.

Eb Strat and Red sound great, but wow I have never had that sort of success with my 335 and vibe, Mick that was really working! Not at all surprised Dan’s SG sounded good (it always does) - loved this one. It really might be time to upgrade my vibe… cheers!

Fuzz, vibe and an Eb big headstock Strat ❤❤❤ Mick - that Strat turned me on to the big headstock look big time.. I’ve recently picked up an Olympic white, light relic 69 CS - nice 65 neck taper and with my RE 50/60s and a decent helping of crazy parts it’s 🔥 (to me at least)

boy oh boy --- Strat untouchable --- just incredible --- and then!!! --- the P90!! - -- I know its probably the guitar --- I wanted to hear a P90 in a hollow body ---- the humbucker is always going to muddy the frequencies for me with most Univibes --- still a great sound --- various P90's and Univibes for a show maybe? - or how p90'scan stand out when you don't necessarily expect it??--- I was blown away by how good that sounded --- I still have goose pimples even through RU-vid Land - now watched it back -- still pimply -- good vibes

I'm happy with my RWEAVERFX violet vibe. I have been through a few and this one does it best for me. I am a Robin trower fanatic and the violet vibe does it better than the dejavibe, which is what he uses. I also like the sabadius. The pedal pawn is just too expensive, they are definitely proud of their pedals.

After years of trying different vibe pedals and not getting exactly what I wanted, I ended up very happy with the Supro harmonic tremolo pedal. Just something to consider if any of you guys are looking for a vibe pedal, but aren’t happy with how dark they tend to sound.

That’s a good call out. I love vibe but sometimes they’re not the right thing. When they aren’t, harmonic tremolo tends to hit the spot.

the depths by EQD has a really great knob that adjusts the brightness. it also has a dedicated knob to control the low-end of the sweep

I went through much gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands trying to work out which vibe to buy a few years back. Truthfully I only use it for that one Pink Floyd tune and the occasional Robin Trower tune - so it's not super duper important - but I ended up with the Uni - Verb mostly because I don't have any J Rocket pedals and I felt good about supporting them. Plus it sounds really good on that one Pink Floyd song! All that said - listening to Mick do that Hendrixy thing makes me think I need to expand my horizons a bit!!

J Mascis uses a Retrovibe, but exclusively for vibrato. It took over my Magnatone style vibrato as my main vibrato sound too, but the real pleasure now is in having a univibe on my board.

I have the Depths also, it's a real analog photocell circuit. I think it's a fantastic option, sounds awesome. It doesn't have the vibrato mode of the original vibe or some of the faithful recreations, but I've never cared for that setting anyway.
