I've worked in children's front-line services for many years and referrals (mostly from schools) with concerns re: inappropriate sexualised behaviours being displayed or acted out, has increased and seemingly the children are getting younger e.g was 10-12yrs now 7-9yrs. I worked in a Montessori where a little boy was abusing the other children in the toilets. He was about 4 years old. Obviously he was being abused at home. I had to leave the nursery as so many safeguarding issues were being breached. Parents have no idea what happens to their children when they leave them at schools and nurseries. They say exposure to images can increase the incidence of child on child sexual abuse. This will happen because of books like this.

When I read about this I had to Google the book and the frightening thing is it 5star on Amazon and Waterstones and many other sites with fawning comments about how great and relevant it is. And it clearly says age from 3years up. Well I'm sorry I'm no prude but there's a time and a place and anywhere near children, I would say of any age,but definitely very young isn't it. I can almost guarantee if I were to put a book with pictures of heterosexual men and women dressed in bondage gear in a school library it would be removed instantly, and rightly so.

Why would any teacher who is in school to teach and nurture all children, give a book like this for them to read...morals and sense is fast going out the window, it’s gross!!!
When I challenged a headteacher about having this book in a primary school, she said 'they're going to see it anyway' shrugged her shoulders and put the book at the front of the large collection of pride books on display in the hall. I went home and told my husband and he said that in 56 yrs he has never seen a man dressed in BDSM fetish wear. He is very widely travelled but does not attend pride marches or gay clubs.

A friend of mine has a flooring company and does a lot of council contracts. Had to have his men work evenings in nursery/reception/infant school. Could not believe posters books etc promoting LGBTQ etc along with BLM. It was a total shock.

I walked into a shop in the local town because half their shop window was full of Pride books. I opened up some of them and they had drag queens in them. How can you tell in a preschool or school setting if potential abusers either adults or even older children are not using this material to groom vulnerable children, right under the noses of the staff?? No problem with pre-school books having innocent depictions of varied family settings (single parents, parents of the same sex, parents of different sexes), but there should be no sexualisation of any of the settings. Let kids be kids.
Even if the book didn't have the shockingly perverse illustration in it, isn't there still a problem with a gay pride book being introduced to pre-school children? There is no relationship between the requirement for safe guarding training and the actual safeguarding of our children. It is open slather on our children in the schools pretty much everywhere. I am a gay man who has adopted 2 children with my partner. I am appalled that material like this is being deemed as acceptable for children. Discussing these sorts of matters should be the responsibility of parents - NOT the education system. This madness needs to stop. The reality is the book IS age inappropriate for this audience. As a gay man why is it we need to be represented as half naked in kink gear at a pride rally as presented in this book. Is it not a harmful stereotype to present gay men as effectively just half dressed individuals who go around wearing kink gear... when the majority of gay men dont act this way. Seems like whomever planned this from the perspective of 'inclusion' overlooked their own biases and assumptions in this area. If it actually were for kids and not just being made out to be, and the purpose was promoting equality and diversity towards lgbt - why wouldnt you create the characters to look as normal as possible for the target audience (e.g. 2 fully clothed dads with a kid/2 fully clothed women with a kid etc) and then cover people who dress particularly differently outside of the lgbt as dressing in an out-of-the-ordinary way isnt tied to sexual orientation as we also have plenty of straight individuals who dress in an alternative way so the core message there should be "people dress differently, its fine" to kids of that age rather than associating different dress styles with a sexual orientation. There is literally no benefit to these kids from using this book as it just exposes them to concepts they are too young to properly understand (like i know its not sex ed, but kink at age 4 just isnt appropriate period) and additionally is another lgbt misinformation handout based on what these writers want all lgbt people to be like, not who they are by associating a stereotype to an entire community which they themselves regularly complain about others doing . This is yet another reason why a large portion of lgbt dont identify as part of the lgbt community - nor do they want any association with them due to the stupid crap and toxic behaviours promoted from within.
PARENTS, go to your kids nursery/school and check all the books in the library, talk to your kids daily about the lessons they had, ask if they were told not to tell you something by a teacher, check their homework. It's very strange that someone would deliberately create this for children. Does the author have children themselves and understand developmental stages? There is a reason why education is a graduate profession, you must learn about child cognitive and emotional development and what are suitable subjects for them to learn at different ages. You wouldn't teach primary school children with the secondary curriculum. And at secondary level, sex education is not about graphic practices, but understanding health and risk.
