Now that I’ve decluttered to just the right amount of stuff in my house, I don’t want to add anything. However, I love to upgrade. My primary interest is in bone china mugs or cups. If I see one in a thrift store that is prettier than one that I have at home, I purchase it knowing that I will donate the old one. I think it’s a thrifty way to shop for pretty things without creating clutter. Decluttering was too time and labor intensive for me to even be tempted to build up clutter again!
If there's a second hand store that you want to visit, choose one that's further away from your house than is quick to revisit. If you find stuff you like, ask if they'll hold your items till the next day. Take the photo and then go back if yes, the item fills a gap in the wardrobe or will be used. But the extra distance will make you think twice about how much you really want it. Also helps to donate a box of decluttered stuff there before you walk in the shop door.
Jes, can you please do a video on one's ability to say no, when friends offer stuff they don't want to you. My hubby has acquired so much stuff that never gets used this way.
I like to 2nd hand shop for the hunt of it all. It’s fun. And if you don’t find what you love, it’s ok cause the price tends to be less than buying new so no major loss.
