You missed the point. Mac’s argument is built on the premises that to one degree or another, you live by faith, for you cannot know all things, but are required to believe in something.

@@laza6141 If by your logic, this is true, than 2+2= 5… or 6… or 62. Do you see, just because you believe something is true, doesn’t make it so. 2+2 can only equal 4. In the same way, there can only be 1 explanation for existence. Not many but 1. You cannot say God of the Bible created the time and space but also say God does not exist. You have the option to believe, but still, only 1 is True. I won’t argue with you on this, because you don’t know even what you think you know.

One of my favourite Season 15 Dennis moments is when Mac is trying to figure out whether to identify as Gay or Irish first, and he just replies “Ohhh you fool!”

He does have a point. Y’all act like science is just fact. We really don’t know anything. Science is the study of things as it is right now. It doesn’t mean it’s always gonna be that way. Regardless evolution is ridiculous.. to say that everything came from literally nothing which is totally impossible, and then somehow formulated from nothing into advanced life that can create advanced technology. All of that from literally nothing? You would have to be a huge fool to believe that.

You can't argue for a subject in which you are completely ignorant. Science is man made, another religion of sorts, so it also can't be trusted.

A scientific theory contains lots of observable facts and explains how they are related. It starts with a scientific hypothesis… and if it accumulates enough supporting evidence that it convinces all experts in the relevant fields it becomes a scientific theory.

@@IronChefAwesomeit’s not that what mac says is false, it’s that it doesn’t amount to an argument for intelligent design. he demonstrates 2 main points. 1. in pre-modern times the scientific consensus has been wrong. 2. believing the scientific community requires a degree of faith because most of not all of us haven’t reviewed the first hand research. #1 doesn’t disprove evolution or prove ID. evolution is referred to as a theory because scientists acknowledge that while they can be 99.99% sure of something, 100% certainty is rare and we acknowledge that we don’t know everything. and #2 neither proves ID or disproves evolution either, its fine to admit that we put our faith in experts to interpret their findings, because those experts are backed up by other people who actually do the research. and we still applu crritical thinking. we trust a doctor who goes to med school, but we wouldn’t trust a mechanic to do surgery. but we still have to have some faith that when the ER surgeon was hired the hospital checked their credentials. living life requires a lot of faith in institutions and institutions overwhelmingly affirm the theory of evolution. dennis is right that it’s a false equivalency to say the faith we have in a science textbook is the same as the faith we have in the bible. the information in a science textbook can, and has been tested. meanwhile we know the bible wasn’t always written by the purported authors, has been edited and translated, and is full of contradictions. furthermore the bible only says god created man, it doesn’t even say man didn’t evolve. those are the holes in the argument.

No I think it is a real argument that you can't defend against, it's just we forget what we're arguing about here. The point of the debate, in this scenario, was not to disprove evolution or anything like that. They tried to make a case that Mac's opinion doesn't matter for being a creationist, and what he was trying to do (and, actually, did) is prove that he's just a valid as Dennis. When you remember that this was the point to be made here, I'd say he argued it pretty well!

LOL The argument Mac is making is NOT that scientists are wrong and the Bible is right or some s**t like that. The scene is part of a bigger thing about whom, between Dennis and Frank, is responsible for car damage in an accident. Mac, at that point, is on Frank's side, so Dennis went for the tactic of discrediting him by going for his creationist beliefs. So Mac, in the scene in the video above, counter-argued, not that evolution is wrong and the Bible is right, but that his take on the car accident case shouldn't be invalidated because he's a creationist. And, again, he succeeded in doing that.

BUT… I would say that it depends on your irrational beliefs that I know about. For example I thought that Jordan Peterson was a really smart guy and uncritically accepted a lot of what he said without fact-checking anything just because I agreed with him… until I saw him make the ridiculous claim that ancient people spiritually knew about the double helix in the DNA because of some drawings they made many centuries ago. Well its a good persuasion scene. Since the most of the people who “believe” in evolution, don’t know/understand science behind it. All they get is basic biology in highschool and its so abridged that gives you only the basic idea of why or how. Mac got that 1 strong point. Most of the people also believe in evolution based on their “faith” in science.

That faith in science isn't unfounded however it is believed blindly.
