Put an overflow pipe on one end of the dam, where it discharges toward the creek. Use a backhoe or mini ex. Then find any soft spots or leaky areas. Dig it out, then pack it back in. Nice work with the grader box. My favorite implement for sure. I like the weights and the tilt cylinder. Slick.

Okay, the purpose of a swale is to make a gradual dip in the ground where one can walk across it without tripping, so now your HALF done. Now tilt the blade the other way and do the other half next to that deep plow furrow you left! It will look remarkably better after a second cut, then seeding fescue and you're done!

I bought the suitcase weights thinking I was going to use a weight bracket as a ballast but I really don’t do that very often. Remember, those pans cut both ways. Every time you back up with your blade in the air, you are wasting fuel. And don’t forget to use your rippers, they loosen it up so you can cut easier. We used Massey Ferguson wheel tractors and blades to grade with commercially, and it those box graders are really the ticket for tight areas. Also, did you shoot it for fall before you began? Sorry, I don’t wanna be second guessing you, I’m an old dozer hand and used to push dirt crews, so automatically I’m like what can we do better? Good job for a little tractor like that, remember moving dirt is a thinking man’s game, do the job three times in your head before you put a blade in the ground. 💪🙏🤟 be safe out there!

You are absolutely right, the box blade is a very versatile implement. I hear guys complaining about them not working right but I always write that off to lack of experience. When you think about the number of variables to consider it is easy to understand why you need experience. Angle right and left and back and front, moisture content of the soil, whether you are pushing or pulling. Mine has never let me down and I have built a lot of road with it.

Appreciate the video, it looks good! From experience, as soon as you're confident that the pitch is correct and proven to work, you'll need to get seed on it or in the near future you'll have a deep ugly trench that's more problems than solutions. Also the water will be moving fast at the end of that trench. That might be a concern?? Slowing in down with big rocks or dispersing with couple diversion ditches could be needed. Trial and error 🙂

Watching you with that box blade reminds me of my project for the day. We had a storm that knocked down a bunch of trees on my property. One big oak tree is laying right on top of my box blade. I had set it down out back to make room for my sawmill operation. Apparently, I chose the wrong spot! That big old tree has it driven halfway into the ground! I'm hoping that there is no damage. I am sure where you live at neighbors are different but neighbors can be fickle things! When they ask for a trench and you do something different...around my parts you end up getting sued lol. I am surprised you started on the neighbors side though...if you thickened and even raised the part near his property..dug that trench like you intended to...you might not have even had to do anything on his property at all. Is he paying you at all for doing that work on his property? In most states...if its across your property line..its the neighbors problem. I can see how you want to keep things problem free with the neighbor though since he did not have the problem before your pond work. Short but looking next to the next one!

Starting there is just a show of good faith so he knows I’m serious about listening to his problem. He was standing back there right before I started digging and I kind of told him what I was going to try first Most people are pretty laid-back around here and he really couldn’t care less what I do over there as long as it’s not muddy around his horse pen Well I was there I offered to pull some trees for him for free also. People can tell if you have a good intention

I’m conflicted here and not trying to be a jerk but what does your neighbor think of all this? I mean, your dam is on the neighbor’s property line and then you dig a swale on the neighbor’s property to fix a flooding issue caused by said dam? In my mind, your neighbor is either family or the most understanding neighbor ever.

Obviously the pond existed before the property line and building was there. So he is actually going out of his way to help the neighbor with an issue that he could shrug off altogether if he wanted to.

Correct. The pond has been there 40 years and I’ve lived here three years. I have a whole video series on fixing this pawn from my side of the property, but in the meantime, I did this because he specifically asked me to. Why don't you just put a proper over flow on your pond so you don't affect the adjoining properties?

Yeah, I’ve already done that. I also Rebuilt the damn. I did this on the neighbors property because he asked me to not necessarily because I thought it was a good idea

The army corp of engineers could have you drawn and quartered for fiddling with their water. Oh! You weren’t aware that they own every drop that falls from the sky or bubbles up from the ground? I saw the give a $45,000 dollar fine to had a permit to do riparian repair in Montana. He didn’t do anything with the water itself but the tires of his excavator went a couple feet into a river. Boom! It put him out of business. They are starting such measures in Colorado.
