I can only agree with comments below. Why not reach out to the Saab community online ? You will miss it when it’s gone. That engine is bulletproof - I agree, a magnificent looking car and one of the most elegant estates ever made. Think twice Blee!!

Exactly! I bought a 9-5 recently for 600 quid and I've already spent about another 1000 (including new clutch) on it but i can't think of many nicer cars for my purpose than a well sorted Saab for less than 2k 😁 There's a lot of easy tuning potential if you want some extra content 🤞

I have nearly an identical car, although mine is an '03 with 171,000 miles on it. I paid $5000 for mine back in 2009. I've done a ton of work on mine and continue to do work, but it's a great highway cruising car and is really reliable for the most part, so I'm keeping mine until the engine explodes. Yours looks like it's in better shape than mine, plus, you have the nicer front bumper cover, I have the older style. I have rust in the backend under the car was well, but here in the Midwest USA, our version of MOT does not check under the car, so they don't care. I can't believe that all of your bushings in the front end of the vehicle wouldn't be worn out at that mileage. Your car looks like it has spent its life in a garage, it's a keeper.

Thanks for the comment. Ah what i'd do for some more relaxed rules haha. Good on you for keeping yours until its death. Yeah the previous owner of this one defo looked after it!

People often make the mistake of equating the cost of a repair to the cars value. If your car was worth £5000 then presumably you’ll be happy to spend £5 or £600 to get it through the MOT, but that’s no guarantee it won’t require further work. If you like the car, and it’s obviously in good condition for its age and mileage, it could prove to be a much sounder investment than any unknown quantity which you might replace it with.

I have already repaired 2 of these and I have another 2 lined up for the repairs you are facing here. It is relatively easy to do and if you do it yourself it costs peanuts. I reckon each time I do one it costs about £50 for materials, rust treatment and paint. Once done the car will last years more.

Mate, I have a suggestion, I own a 05 2,0 estate, how about I come to pick it up from the UK just before the next MOT expires and drive it to Eastern Europe where I live and then get it to 500K miles? My 2.0 has done 320 K miles and aiming to get at least 500K on the odometer since MOT here doesn't care much about the state of the subframe. This way I'll give the 95 a second life that it deserves!

HonestJohn are listing these as future classics. I’ve just picked up my 7th Saab, a 2005 9-5 saloon 2.3t, but it’s off to SaabFlight in Sussex for a transformation into Aero spec plus a stage 1 on top of that next week. Mine only had 34k miles on the clock when I bought it so it was a bit more than £895, but it’s such an amazing car. I love Saab’s anyway, but the 9-5 is really really good.

@@BleeCarswell Definitely. With the sort of mileage I do each year it’ll still have less than 100k miles in 10 years time! If 9000 prices are anything to go by, I should be able to sell it for the same price I paid for it at that point. The 9-5 is an absolutely amazing car. All the reasons you mentioned for loving it, I totally agree. Those that say “oh it’s just an Insignia” have never driven one

I love Saab 9-5's as I have owned two of them. However, I think that although as good looking as the Saab estate is, my current car, an Alfa Romeo 159 ti sportwagon in red is a very handsome estate. That being said, I have my eye on getting an 04/05 9-5 aero - they are probably the best 9-5's out there.
@BleeCarswell
@BleeCarswell 3 года назад
Ah yes the 159 Sportwagon is definitely a looker! Are they all that practical though?
@nekite1
@nekite1 3 года назад
For my needs, definitely. What I absolutely love about the car is when I am on the outside lane of a motorway and everybody moves over to let me through - absolute magic carpet drive! I go camping a lot, so a sportwagon is a good choice. I have only seen 1 other Alfa sw in 2 years that is the same spec as mine, so very rare. Look on autotrader - there are only 4 or 5 out there for sale.

Don't do it! I scrapped my Aero estate a few years ago when the clutch went and regretted ever since. I'd paid £400 for mine, it was an earlier one ( X plate ), but was as tidy as yours. These are already increasing in value and will only carrying on doing so. Look at 9000's and 900 and 9-3's.

Donate it to a SAAB enthusiast? There's plenty of people on various Facebook groups that will hunt you down if you scrap it! Since SAABs demise, the very idea of scrapping them has become a no-no and yet there are still loads of fans that would gladly take it. Maybe make them promise to restore rather than break it for parts as it seems to be in good nick apart from the rear rust.

I absolutely endorse your comment - the 9-5 for me at the time that I bought it was an absolute no-brainer as I had a family of four and there was no safer car on the road - I was involved in as serious RTA whilst driving a 9-5 and we all walked out of the car without a bruise (not my fault for the accident) . The attending police, fire services and ambulance crew all stated that they had never seen a fatality in a 9-5, but that was back in 2007.

@@BleeCarswell I imagine that things have moved on since the 9-5 was first developed (1997!) but it was the first car to ever get 5 stars in the EuroNCAP safety system. SAABs were built well, certainly better than anything else back then although as I said, there may be safer cars now.
