UPDATE [2024]: Its now been four years since we lost him back in 2020, still can't believe its been that long. Music: • Team Fortress 2 - Rock... Birthday Clip: / 1064295163663544320 #tf2 #rickmay #threeyearsago #tribute
Just wanted to let you guys know that I updated the title name with it being four years now since Rick passed away. I feel it's more appropriate to just update the name on this, sorry if there was any confusion.
And its up to us as the community to welcome as many others as we can regardless of who they are so we can all enjoy the game together. With that there will be plenty of people to tell the story. o7
@@xXshadowkillerXx3 The people that used to be there mattered most. The halls became bare and broken. Take away the people, and you see the truth. All you can hope for anymore is memories. I despise TF2 and what it became. And I'll never forget when the death bell of an era and its people tolled. Time is a cruel reminder of what we lost, and a monument to our apathy. Into the inferno with the hopes we had. The truth forever lost to the jungle.
It took 79 years, throat cancer, a stroke, and finally, a global pandemic to take him out. He went down fighting. A soldier to the end. Can't believe it's been three years. Godspeed, Rick, you magnificent bastard. You waged one hell of a campaign.
it's crazy to think that we as gamers can have such extreme feelings for not only the games we play, but also the people surrounding the game as well. R.I.P rick may
There's a reason for that: We gamers also have feelings for people and games cuz the People are behind making the game fun to play so that's why And also R.I.P Rick May The Best Soldier Acter
"At the end of it all, gamers play what we play, not for GAME OVER, but rather for what we take away!" The feelings some games carve into your mind and heart will last forever.
Its so weird hearing his voice knowing that he is long dead. Like echo from a living legend long since gone. His words and talent still ringing in our ears. The most beautiful way to stay immortal and remembered
I think It's poetic that even he is long gone he still echoes through the media he took part in, reminding us of his life and how happy he made us. The same goes for all of the TF2 Voice Actors, when thier time inevitably comes.
Remember Disney's "Robin Hood"? All but one of the credited cast on the Wikipedia page have been dead for years. To say nothing of all the VAs for games who have died over the years. For example, the actor for Douglas in Silent Hill 3, Richard Grosse, tragically died a few months after the game's release.
@@patnewbie2177I do remember it, even if it wasn't in the language it widely spread. As you get older you get to apprecieate things you did not after experiencing it as a kid. If you put much thought to it, Plato's Cave is a great example even if its only written. As it was always said "Artists are always more remembered after thier death".
It's also why it feels... weird... to hear Ai soldier voices. It might be that I feel kinda iffy towards Ai being used for that stuff in general, but it feels like disturbing the dead.
Can't believe it has been 3 years already... I'm just glad that the other voice actors are trying their best to keep this game alive and relevant while enjoying themselves in the mean time. I'm sure Rick would be very happy!
I hope this becomes a tradition. Every people who passed away will be remembered. We WILL remember them forever no matter how much time has passed. Then they can be alive in our mind and our game.
Soldier, you were good son. Real good. Maybe even the best. And I’m sorry that he died. But seriously, I miss that man so much. He was the best voice actor for soldier.
@@fuckass6766 Maybe, and I admit it's true for me, but we never knew what we had until it was gone. I can say at least we're recognizing the rest of the VA's because of those Search-for-Sandvich videos. If only he made it just a few more years…
The saddest thing is that he said we are gona live for ever... he still does in TF2 No man can replace a legend only a legend can barely fill a hole in our hearts
The fact that, on the day of his death, all anyone did in every server was rocket jump and 16-rocket solute is a testament to how influential he was and is. He got an entire fan base to stop fighting for a whole day, in a game that's literally just fighting.
I like how soldier was silent in the beginning. To me, it feels like he's showing respect to the one who gave him a voice, the voice that made him so loveable, the voice that the community loves, and the voice that I love. May you rest in peace, Rick May.
"Your lucky you survived this far" Seems like for Rick, his luck was run out... Rest in Peace, Rick. Even after these 3 years, no one has forgot you... No one...
It's been three years, but it still feels like we lost him Yesterday and it still brings me to tears, he may be gone but he isn't forgotten. Thank you for everything, Rick. Rest in Peace.
It feels like it was yesterday. as someone who’s wants to do voice acting (and also wishes to do character design art) this game has made me even more inspired and motivated to live up to my dreams. he might’ve not been the only or the direct inspiration but he’s definitely a part of this. he was never immortal but he is our hearts. fly high Rick may
Basically just got into the tf2 community, but even before I started I knew how iconic his voice was, and how much the community loved him. R.I.P Rick May
Hey, thanks for posting videos like this and especially still sharing around my birthday clip, honestly means a lot. I miss Rick so much but videos like this honestly help out a ton so thank you, you are a legend. :)
Today is my birthday and i'm sad rick left us but that last message always cheers me up. Edit: thank you all for your kind words, i really apreciate it
I remember the day it happened when fans were sobbing over the loss and it was sad but it shows how much of a big impact he had on us. You were good son real good and definitely the best...
it truly sucks that he never lived to the day where every voice actor began coming together.. he will truly be missed for all of time. we will never forget him, thank you for everything rick may
msn, I still get chills after listening to that song... Keep flying high Rick, the highest rocket jump in history. Keep my dad company while you're up there man
@@cookiekid0014 He truly was. Worked in Electrical engineering for a pretty big company, used to hand make wooden cross clocks ad a hobby, worked on my project cars with me, did a GOOD CHUNK of the auto work in our fleet of cars, and the closest man to god I ever knew. My mom said he looked at peace when she saw his body left behind in the hospital. People can have their own views on religion and the afterlife, but he knew, with confidence, where he was going in the end.
Godspeed Mays, may I never forget that dulcet grindstone of a voice and the impeccable character he gave to Soldier. His performance as Soldier has solidified him as one of my favourite characters in gaming forever more.
Cant believe its been three years... and were still mourning this magnificent man that brought us so much joy through this wonderful game. Its sad, hearing him say theyre gonna live forever, because all the actors are getting older, and one day this game will die one way or another. But so long as we live none of them will ever be forgotten
During the anniversary of his passing I take a vow of silence not to say a word as soldier, doing whatever I can to not use a voice line the man earned his rest. We'll forever miss you ray, Godspeed
Another year, another day to celebrate his legacy. Once again, a beautiful tribute. Godspeed, Rick May! Thank you for the artistry you brought into this world!
Although I’ve never truly played the game in its golden years, I do shed a tear when I think about how he loved the game he was in, he played the part perfectly and no one can replace him, even though death comes to us all one way or another, it still hurts every time, for him, it wasn’t supposed to happen, goodbye you power house of a soldier,he was great, most might say the best
