I think pops needs his own side channel. Not everyone was blessed with people like him or in my case, my grandfather. Makes me think about learning to run a drill press or weld when I was like 8 or 9.
His POPS is the source for all that JR-Brainage. I'd just like to work for the man a couple wks. Pickup his train-of-thought. OldHeadz attack projects from odd angles. Interesting stuff
It was great seeing your dad and listening to his teaching. Very glad he pulled through. Your warehouse is surely coming together well. Keep up the great work. Happy to see you are getting heat next week.
Dude, that large diesel torpedo heater shouldn't be making dangerous levels of CO2 or other noxious fumes if it's working properly... but it will suck the O2 out of the room surprisingly quickly if you don't have ample fresh air supply. low O2 will make you feel tired, euphoric, restless and confused and is not good for your health - make sure you got outside air coming in somewhere near the heater, crack that door behind it a bit and move it closer.
@John Doe This. Where I live, good paying jobs are related to computers. Developers or DevOps engineers are in high demand. Anyone I know my age don't know how to wire a plug, I'm lucky that my dad taught me how to work on cars, encouraged me to mess around with electronics ( within reason ) and had me help out with plumbing and all other type of DIY related things. The only thing I would pay for is high risk things such as running a gas line.
Seeing you with your Dad makes me miss my Dad... of course, I'm older than your Dad now, so it's all relative! I really enjoy your videos, and can tell that you've learned a lot from your Dad... I'm glad his health is getting better!
Glad your dad has recovered and love watching and hearing what he has to say. You picked up a lot of knowledge working with him. It'll be nice to have plenty of cheaper heat👍
I find it completely amazing where I was looking at a whole bunch of RU-vid channels featuring automotive stuff...but, then seeing so many ancillary things, like this video, where you have done a retrofitting of the building's heating system and commercial spaces. I'm learning so much new stuff that is related to the automotive trade.
Hearing you talk about the steel buildings brings back some memories. My Dad's Horse Barn and Former Steel Dairy Barn turned storage building were dissabled and reassembled the same way as your fathers. I was also the little kid in the bucket. Backhoe and some chain, thats all you need at the farm. Never wore and harness in my life...and probably never will. Some day's were were a miracle I did not crack my skull open or break an arm falling out of the bucket. Love the content. Stay safe and best wishes from Freezing Ass Cold New Hampshire. Gotta love New England Winters
Freezing everywhere. Even Texas . We’re use to some Polar Vortex at times but it’s Gotta be hard if your not use to it . Great to see JR senior back to health. Thank god He doesn’t have any long term issues. God bless those doctors and nurses during this Pandemic. Great video JR . I learned a lot . Stay warm everyone.
Your dad is super cool. He's obviously a seriously smart dude. I don't know him, but I know I like and respect him. It's no wonder why you are also such a great person.
So sorry to hear about your Dad I am so glad that he is doing much better We hope that he is back to his best as soon as possible because you guys are the best please stay safe and well
First of all, praise the Lord that your father is up and well. So glad to see that. Second of all, I just changed the orifices from NG to LPG on a stove I bought so I can hook up a cylinder to it and use it off-grid. I have been working on a school bus conversion and I don't have a heater in it yet, so I know what it means to loose feeling in your feet from walking on ice cold floors while you are working. Keep the great content coming. I subscribed about a year ago for your automotive videos, but I don't mind the building updates at all. Your content has always been about making things function, whether it's engines, EVs, body work, trailers, tools, or workshops. I'm glad you are keeping everything on the same channel. Also, I think you should call your shop the Derby Drome.
Great to see JR is continuing the family tradition. Your building has great bones, its going to be so great when you're done, and its an investment for your future.
So cool to see the old hangar again. 14:38. I actually went there and got my A&P license years ago. In Georgia now. Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work.
Glad that WatchSeniorGo has recovered. He does such a geat job of explaining things. You are very blessed to have such a close family and a dad that seems very supportive. Love your channel, even the warehouse content. 😀
Happy to see your dad is better and doing what he love, I have 4 of that heaters at the shop I work with 8 bay doors, run on natural gas but my shop heater has sensors when the temperature drop or the door open it turns on the heaters and when it warm enough it shut down
My job too in another jurisdiction and that admission of a complete dismissal of duties in a commercial workplace would get him fired by an employer! I cannot watch any longer this build or I'd have to share this with authorities. Thankfully I have not witnessed more than unsafe ladder climbing that all RU-vidrs working on buildings show off to all watching! Most are on their own residential property but not JR, he's fully commercial!
He probably wouldn't fall under OSHA. My understanding is it doesn't kick in until you have 10 employees. A bigger risk is his insurance provider, or providers, flagging him as high risk and jacking up his premiums.
@@SIXPACFISH if you ever worked in construction and seen a horrific accident then you would understand why they are like that people get dismembered and killed all the time
I remember being in a nightclub and the heating failed, after about half an hour, they turned up with smaller versions of those heaters, running on bottled gas, they were so loud, and the moisture on almost every surface was unreal.
Down there, you are not much used to the cold. Last night, in Ottawa it was -29° C here with the wind chill, that's -20° F. Now, admittedly, that is one of the coldest nights of the year, up here in Canada's capital. It's nowhere near as bad as our northern cities, where it is regularly -40° in both C and F! Glad to see your dad up and healthy! I nearly died last year about this time from COVID-19 myself. I still have what is known as "Long Haul Syndrome", which causes a wide variety of ongoing problems, some of which are life-threatening. I hope he doesn't have that problem!!!
Your Dad looked good glad to see him up and out. When I was young my friend had a Modine heater in his garage on propane and it would backfire a few times randomly so you never wanted to sand under it or the flame might get you. Those were fun time but your right it's cold in a garage with a cement floor and near no heat. thanks
I am always amazed at your total skill set. While you were acquiring all of that wisdom, what did you have to skip in your youth? Or are you really 85 years old? I am so sorry I never learned to weld.
Good to see your Dad is doing better! Hopefully no bad effects. I'm sure he's happy that you actually listened sometimes when you were younger...lol I wonder how much wisdom I just let hit the ground by not listening to my Dad growing up (he was a Master Plumber). Anyways...on to warmer days ahead!! Right? Cause it's freezing the same way here in Dallas. Not cool!! Not warm either.
good to see you r dad doing well he amazing to listen to. top tips for staying warm in your heated hoody. firstly put a light long sleeve jumper or thicker long sleeve t shirt under the hoody to spread heat across the contact points to other part and secondly and most important put a jacket over it doesn't need to be a heavy jacket normal water proof jacket work well enough to keep the heaters heat in will have you turning the heat setting down after a while. hope this helps you as it has me in my -4 Celsius workshop here in scotland
Living on the west coast of Canada I have never experienced anything as cold as your weather in Kansas. In fact we rarely see temps below freezing. Hopefully things warm up for you guys very soon!
@@nachobroryan8824 Interesting. Makes sense though. In the area that I am from a Lake will cool an area at night in the summer time. Opposite for winter I suppose.
The Gulf Stream keeps the worst of the cold from the UK. London had -6C at night this week and the part of the UK with -18C made the front page of a newspaper. The severe weather system giving us snow and cold winds gets the name "the beast from the east."
You're telling me the guy that looks like Jerry Mathers (Beaver) is your brother?...Mind blown! I always thought it was only you and Gabe. Makes sense now. On another note, I'm so happy to see your dad has pulled through and it's great to see him grace us in a new video. Watching your family work is inspiring.
which its funny he could turn on one or more of the gigantic exhaust fans that the building has to help pull CO and other harmful gasses out but like with the no harness thing until he ends up in the ER and out of work he probably wont change his ways
There's none to very little CO when using diesel and proper venting. Don't believe me google it or just search RU-vid for actual test results. Also, if he cleans the tank, adjust the air flow, use diesel and a fuel additive he would not have the black smoke. There's a problem when they are smoking and leaving crap on the floor. You can run those things off vegetable oil to get a cleaner burn.
Back in college, I bought my own harness for going up in lifts just so I wouldn't have to adjust the other ones every time. As a kid, I was in the bucket of a front end loader of a Case SC trimming trees a time or too. Never the heights, just the fall that you're careful to never let happen.
Glad to see your father doing so well. You mentioned hot water heater(s), I suspect you only have a bathroom and a kitchenette. Have you considered individual on demand hot water units?
the cold sucks, but at least its out of the wind. It has been -30's and -40's up here in northern MN. I will be doing my rear axle bearings and seals at my work warehouse today.
You're a smart guy JR,put some ceiling fans up,have somebody come in and shoot you're building with a thermal cam,and have the building foamed you will cut your energy bill in half .Also I don't know how tall your building is but it might be advantageous to frame a second floor in there. You could use it for storage or you could use it for offices but either way you'd be cutting the area you're trying to heat and cool significantly.Honestly you could probably get the government to pay for part of it.Great video as always.
Good luck with the rest of the heater setup! Brings back memories of working in a friend's garage in Buffalo. Beer would freeze in the garage, we had to bring it inside to warm up to drink. 8)
That ginormous torpedo heater might need a tune up. They make replacement nozzles for the correct fuel you are using and spray pattern. There is also a Beckett burner tool to make sure electrodes arethe correct spacing and height from the nozzle. Also you can put a vacuum gauge into the plugged hole that houses the filter to check if its pulling the correct vacuum and or fuel pressure. There is a set screw to adjust pressure. There is also replacement vanes inside of that housing that might be worn out.
I have that same heater, with just one installed in my insulated 60x80 shop on Natural gas it heats it to 68 just fine. can't wait for your walls to be done. It's Looking good.
As we used to say when I was in commercial real estate, “If you’re saving up to buy a horse don’t forget to save up to FEED a horse”. The operational costs go on in perpetuity.
