Let's take a trip back this amazing building we use for our Sunday morning church services and see where I put my crowd mics. I walk through what I have tried and why I am installing these in this specific location. Also, there is some bonus material of the "Mighty Wurlitzer" organ and how it is linked to some real instruments around the building and it's been this way since the early 1900's.

Wow, what a difference!!! I need to add some mics to our mix. Also, love the tour of the instruments. It would be fascinating to hear it all in it's hay day.

Yeah, it makes a big difference. Also, this organ and venue is still quite amazing, but I do think it would have been life-changing back in the 20’s -40’s for sure.

That really sounds great with the low end eq'd out. I didn't see parts 1 and 2, so forgive the question. Is the goal here to make the recording/stream of the service better, or to add ambience to an in-ear monitor mix, or both? I wonder if you will end up getting a flamming sound with a snare drum in the mix. That gets complicated because your shotgun mics will pick up both the acoustic drum and the amplified sound of it. If you try to add a direct signal (for the stream), now you have 3 paths with potentially different time delays. You can time-delay the speakers to the acoustic drums, but it would take some effort to get a single time delay that also works for the shotgun mics. Have fun on the journey!

The initial goal is to capture audience sound for the livestream, but they could be added into the IEMs if desired. Our IEMs are all mono so it wouldn’t add too much in that regard and there are the challenges of the reflections being picked up at multiple times from multiple mics. At this point, I am still experimenting with the full kit to see if the mics distort and fall apart with a full band. Time will tell.

@@AllamHouse Cool. I experimented with this some time ago. The other delay issue for me was the pastor's voice, but our ambience mics were on the stage and some distance from the speakers. I like your mic positions - much closer to equal distances speaker-to-mic and center-stage-to-mic. Hopefully your delay times aren't too far apart, or your pastor and/or drummer are acoustically quiet. 😀
