3°F is -16°C. That's cold, and I admire both your pictures and dedication.

Btw my favourite temperature is 25°C. Was staying in Mallorca and sitting in the warmth wearing a T Shirt shooting a 1 hour full arc Pano. Such a nice experience!

Man, you easily get a thumbs up from me! I'm good with about 40-45 F. However, I'll easily take colder if I can get a calm, clear night. And believe me, where I live they are pretty darn rare.

The clear nights are worth it

My favorite temperature for shooting at night is between 60 and 70 degrees, assuming low humidity. Living in Michigan, I have to assume high humidity at all times, so I have three lens warmers that are always with my gear - 1 for my full frame, unmodified camera, and 2 for my tracker kit - modified crop sensor and guide scope. I used to live in Colorado, but my brother, who also does astrophotography, still lives there. I'm not sure if he's seen your channel, but I'm going to share it with him. The Collegiate and Spanish Peaks are right in his back yard. I'm wanting to go back someday and photograph the Milky Way over Blanca Peak, from within the glacier bowl to the north that's formed from all the shoulder mountains around it. If you beat me to it, I look forward to seeing your images.

We are very spoiled with the no humidity here... and the mountains of course

Yeah, it's super annoying that Canon's cameras now include such useful features as built-in bulb timer *and* interval timer, ...but they couldn't spend the few extra dollars on their software designers' time to implement another menu page for doing both at once LOL. Oh well!
@chasingluminance
@chasingluminance Год назад
It's so annoying. Can other brands do bulb intervals? I was doing it with my 6d by using magic lantern firmware. It was sloppy but worked

BTW, my guess about the tracked exposures was that your warm tripod legs were melting the snow lol. It happened to me before, at least I think! Oh, and the resulting image? Stunning. That foreground is gorgeous, the sky is flawless... Thanks for doing all this hard work, and thanks for explaining the BTS so that other photographers can know what goes into creating *real* images.

I had the same issue with a tamron lens in Belize... about 30 minutes of junky photos before I figured it out. My brain is about half as functional at night.

Wow thanks for taking as long! it is such an awesome experience being there with you! Already watched your third Episode and I'm happy that you got out of it safe and sound. Have you ever considered using planit pro instead of photopills? It is able to use the ground height information to draw a view of the scene from your viewpoint? I now scouting in the daytime is way better, but time is always of the essence. Where I live I don't have any mountains so planit pro is of no use to me but there are many famous astro photographers like Benjamin Barakat or Uros Fink who use it for planing!
@chasingluminance
@chasingluminance Год назад
Yeah, I have used planet pro in the past... that's a good reminder

Loved this! Stunning pictures. Just found your channel and subscribed :). Going for my first astrophotography shoot this in February (it will probably be around 4 degrees celsius here in the uk, that's about 30 F , don't think I could handle any less haha. Bought a 24mm and will be on my canon 6D. So excited! Ok, will go watch some more of your videos now and hopefully get some more tips!

Such a cool project, happy to see your progress! Being from the Midwest I'm used to freezing temps, but now living in the Southeast, I'm happy we're getting unusually cold nights right now for astro, but that is still "only" 35-50 F. Are you using anything special like StarStax for the star trail time-lapse? They look great.
