The praying mantis thing is exactly what it is, mutated just like John Hannah predicted in 1968. It's called cordyceps, and it is terrifying. I can't wait for new episodes, I heard that reviewers who have seen other episodes have said that Episode 3 may be the best single episode of TV they've seen. If it's that much better than this awesome episode, it should be mind-blowing.

Episode 1 was originally supposed to be two shorter episodes but the HBO executives hated the ending of the original first episode of Joel throwing the kid's body in the fire, so the producers simply combined the first two episodes and made one long pilot episode. That's why there are 9 episodes this season instead of the originally planned 10 episodes...

Bella is one of the most natural acting actresses i ve seen, she's amazing. Pedro is fantastic as always

I don't play many video games, but I heard good things about the story so back when it came out I watched a play-through. This first episode is so good, it looks so much like the game, and even has some of the score.

Also the daughter wasn’t sick at all, she just noticed a girl in her class twitching and it’s because that girl was infected and that was the first hint of it

I usually watch all the reactions I can find for shows I love, but I've not played the games and most of the reactioners on YT have, and a lot of them don't know how to shut up when it comes to spoilers. When every other comment is "this happens in the game" or they're obviously reacting like certain characters are gonna die soon, it gets annoying really fast. You guys are just enjoying it with fresh eyes and it's nice to see.

That classroom scene in the beginning where the light reflection kept going on sarah, and she looks up to the kid next to her. You can see the kids arm twitching sporadically, that kid was definitely infected!

Oh by the way, the Cordyceps fungus is real and all of that actually happens! The host tries to spread the infection and if an infected ant is discovered by another ant in time, the healthy ant will sacrifice itself taking the infected away from the rest of group

There's a really subtle thing they threw in that I didn't notice until I thought about it. They were out of pancake mix, they declined the biscuits from the neighbors, she didn't eat any of the cookies due to the raisins, and Joel forgot the cake. All of them are seemingly disconnected, until you consider Jakarta. They mentioned problems in Jakarta, one of the worlds largest exporters of flour. If there was any avenue for fungus to spread quickly, it would be through tainted flour... which they avoided that day.

the dogs acting was actually insane

The beginning part about fungus that takes over ants is actually a real thing and probably the most plausible way a zombie outbreak could occur in real life.

I love seeing the reaction of people that haven’t played the game! It’s more authentic in that you can’t say “oh that was in the game” with every scene that happens.

Oh man I can’t wait to watch your reactions especially knowing y’all have not played the games at all. From my perspective as a long time and massive fan of the TLOU games, they absolutely nailed this 1st episode perfectly. The way they balanced new scenes that give you more context for what’s happening and what’s to come with straight out of the video game moments and dialogue was extremely well done. Also the performances as these characters I’ve known and loved for awhile now, were incredible. I mean each character felt exactly like they did in the game. I had very high expectations for this show and not only met them, it completely blew past them. I could not have asked for a better 1st episode honestly. I want the whole season right now man.

The acting was PHENOMENAL!! I love how they dragged Sarahs storyline on a bit longer because it made us feel A LOT more connected to her which made her death 100000x harder to watch! But can we just say take a minute and talk about THE DOGS AMAZING ACTING!! Like at this part 6:20 the dog looks genuinely concerned!

The funny part is that this episode is the most calm one. After this it all breaks loose. Such a big world you’ll love it.

I knew what was coming in the beginning sequence with Sarah and it still had me crying even before it happened 😭

And the light that Sarah was seeing was reflected off a classmate's wrist, the person's hand was twitching (early signs of infection) and the light kept bouncing onto her face.

I was so glad to find a reaction from people who knew so little! As someone who played the first game way back when it first came out in 2013, nothing surprised me bit it was cool seeing people who were surprised by things. Also the car scene seeming like a video game is fun because it's almost the exact camera angle that that scene has in the game itself

You're quickly becoming one of my favorite reaction channels. Rock on! Also, yeah, fungi scare me too. Will they taste good, kill me, cure infection, or cause wild hallucinations? Who knows!?

If it creeped you out hearing about the Fungus at the beginning, look up of Cordyceps in Ants - it literally already exists IRL, it just can't affect humans. Shits scary a'f and really is what makes The Last of Us really hit as a horror game/show.

I’m pretty jealous that you guys are going into this series completely clean. So far it is staying true to the amazing game but making it it’s own at the same time. I’m glad they’re doing it like that. I wouldn’t want it to be an exact copy. They’re choosing great parts to subtly change and the right parts to be the same. I love it so far.

My husband played the game and I watched parts here and there. So when the show was announced, he was very excited. I was a little eh about it and wasn't expecting too much. We watched it and he was watching me the entire time because I was in awe of it. I reacted emotionally which is odd for me. I cried. Needless to say, we both enjoyed the show and I'm hooked now. Can't wait to see each and every episode.

This is a very interesting take on zombies, taking something that actually happens in nature, adding in climate change to make the fungus have to evolve to higher temperature resistance, having their goal be only to spread the fungus (themselves). I mean, we've all seen the nature show where that thing takes over the ants. Fireflies does keep making me think of _Firefly,_ though.

If there’s ever a game y’all need to play, it’s The Last Of Us, I personally think it’s one of the greatest games ever made. I literally just started playing it again for the 100th time after watching episode 1, btw most of what has happened so far is 1 to 1 with the game

You guys are one of my comfort channels. I always watch all your content, which I don’t do on most channels. I’ve been having some shitty days, but coming to watch you guys is like hanging out, eating snacks with friends. Thanks so much for being consistent. That’s an issue with a lot of RU-vidrs, not enough consistency, but you channel is fantastic.

So a couple of days ago I finished watching the series. So back in like 2015 or 2016 I remember i watching some youtuber play the opening scene of the game and when Sarah died i got bored because then the time skip happened ( i was 9 or 10 then ) and I remember thing this is just a walking dead copy or something ( i had only seen the game and didn’t know there was a show even). So years go on and i keep seeing the game pop up and hearing good things about it. So I wanted to play the game myself but that would mean buying a playstation to just play 1 game and i don’t have a good computer either to play it now. So like 2 months ago my sister told my mom to watch the show and she watched 2 episodes and stopped because it was too scary, my sister told her to keep watching and that the next episode has gay people in it and not scary. So now like a week ago my mom asked me do i wanna watch a zombie series called the Last of us and i was like why not i knew because of watching your Got reactions that Oberyn is in this and someone else ( btw i watched Got for first time 2 months ago and watched the entirety of season 6 and half of season 7 in like 4 days because i was kinda depressed cause we were moving so i woke up at 10 watched to like 1 am and went sleep and repeat but i had to go to my dads place and he didn’t have hbo on his tv so i couldn’t watch for like an entire month). When i watched the first 2 episodes alone and then watched it with my mom. It wasn’t even that sad for me when Sarah died because i knew it was gonna happen so i accepted it at the start.

I've played both games and I think this adaptation is absolutely wonderful the casting was spot on

So not to be Mr "But in the Games" every week but i'll say there isnt a dog in the opening of the first game so I find it very dark that Sarah is abandoned by "Mercy" on the night of the infection considering what happens to her with the soldier. Maybe someone will do a deep dive on this show and find that like silly or heavy handed but i found it to be a kinda subtle thing for first time viewers and a reminder for this series going forward for veterans of the franchise.

In my opinion game or tvshow, at least from this episode, it doesn't matter, its just as good, so far at least, adaptaion is on point and I watch both reactors who played the game and who didn't, I kinda like it more to see reactions from those who don't know things at least when I am watching reactions, so this was good and I am looking forward to watching this with you.

Solid first episode, the introduction to Tess was a bit messy but I'll take it because I love Anna Torv.

That game is the first one that ever punched me in the gut with the Sarah scene. I love the added details they gave. The game starts with the scene on the couch giving the watch so the show made it even more of a punch in the gut as they gave you even more attachment to Sarah. I think the wrench scene with the neighbor where he drops the wrench was a nod to the game as well as him getting his supplies out from under the floor (my take at least). The scene with them driving was perfectly done, that was so much like the game. I also believe that Marlene is played by the same person who played her in the game. Great reaction.

Whatever you do, DON'T play the game until after season 1 wraps, you'll be doing yourselves a disservice. And DON'T play Part 2 until after season 2 wraps. Honestly, you'll thank me for it. This reaction video was so awesome, coming from someone who has played both games through multiple times. The reactions of people who have no experience with the games is so fantastic to see.

I invited my non gaming mother to watch it with me because I knew she loved Pedro from Narcos, and Bella from GoT. And she ended up LOVING the first episode and couldn't wait for more.
