I liked when the ending credits were rolling and I was like "whew, finally done crying" then Neil hit me with the Joel and Ellie duet on 'Wayfaring Stranger' and I don't think I can ever cry like that again

For me the hardest part was Ellie saying “I’ll see you around” and the next time they saw each other was on the floor when Joel dies. Makes me so sad

I can’t help but imagine what it would’ve been for Abby, internally, if Ellie ever shouted or call Joel, “Dad,” when she’s begging Abby to stop.

Its especially heartbreaking when you know they were so close to start healing their relationship, and then abby and friends rip it away, making Ellie crying and pleading for Joel to get up that much more heartbreaking.

This scene hurts so much more when you realize Ellie was planning on watching a movie with him the next day-the day he was killed. Dina was going to sneak out with their friends but Ellie wanted to stay at home and watch a movie with him. Just. Ouch.

this was probably one of the hardest scenes to watch. Hearing joel say “she’d be lucky to have you” fucking broke my heart....

"I don't know if I can forgive you for that, but I would like to try" is probably what went through Ellie's head at the moment she let Abby out of the water.

Joel, when his voice cracked simply saying "yep" and then clearing his throat to try and cover it... Such nuanced acting by Troy. Brilliant.

Seeing Joel holding back on crying after hearing that Ellie would finally try to forgive him.... That hurts to watch.

Joel spoke like a true father, any parent would do anything and everything to keep their kid safe it doesn’t matter if the child’s theirs or not. He didn’t regret saving Ellie because to him her life matters and she obviously doesn’t get that.

I think where this scene hit me the hardest was when he said: “If somehow the lord gave me a second chance at that moment I would do it all over again” It hits hard because at first you think he says he would change everything but then you realize he’s saying he wouldn’t. And I think naughty dog definitely wrote that line to be interpreted that way which is so much more meaningful.

To know that the actress who played Ellie also lost her own dad at a young age made this even worse 😔

The thing about Joel’s death even so many years later is he was like a father figure to many people whether you have a real dad in your life or not. Joel was willing to do anything for Ellie as if she were his own. Watching him die was painful, it was literally like losing a father

I’m honestly just so thankful that Ellie talked to him one more time before he was killed, and that their relationship was headed in the direction of hopefully improving. I know that makes a HUGE difference. I’m also extremely proud of Ellie for getting past her desire for revenge and letting Abby go.

Joel's coffee line is a perfect parallel to Ellie's whole ending. "I'm a lil embarrassed as to what I had to trade to get it, it's not bad"

Bruh this game made me cry multiple times on separate occasions. I know it got a lot of backlash, but I absolutely loved the writing in it and the darker theme Neil chased after. Even though it was incredibly depressing.

What breaks my heart is when you first wake up as Ellie, she asks Jesse if Joel’s awake and Jesse tells her no he and Tommy left early because there were infected spotted.

When Joel died, I’m pretty sure a piece of the gaming community’s heart broke off and withered.

The thing that made me so emotional during this game is if you’ve ever had someone do something terrible to you and you were trying to forgive them but they passed away before you could forgive them, it is some of the frustrating and demoralizing shit that can happen and to have someone take that away from you sucks. That’s why this game resonated with me so well.

Abby quite literally became what Joel was to her. One thing that upset me the entire time was it seemed Abby never grasped that the absolute whole reason why Ellie killed her friends and wanted to kill her was because Abby 'killed her father'. Exactly mirrored Abbys situation in the beginning.

The look in Joel's eyes when he says, "I'd do it all over again." It just reaffirmed what Ellie said to him in the original when they're in the bedroom and she's telling him not to abandon her to Tommy. Joel needed her just as much she needed him.

I like to think of this game as the ultimate test of empathy

This was never a story about revenge, it was a story about forgiveness. Forgiving other and learning to forgive yourself.

One of the unsaid things this game gets so right is you'll never know what your last interaction with someone you love will be. We'd all like to think we'll always end every meaningful relationship with gratitude for each other but it's just not reality unfortunately. And that's such a hard part of death

to think that he went from " I sure as hell ain't your dad" in the first game, to being the father many of us need in our lives.

I did not cry but deep down throughout this whole game this had a special place in my heart and a part of me wasn't the same after joel died

Every single time that guitar plays, I bawl so hard I can't even see the reactions. What makes this scene hit so hard is that we see, in the end, that Ellie was actually finally ready to move on. They were going to watch a movie together. They had plans. They had hope

Ellie is so focused on having her life matter, but it didn't even matter to the doctors and Marline. They could have waited til she was conscious to inform her that the cure will come at the expense of her life and let her decide, but what the doctor did was so unethical and unprofessional. Im sure Joel would have understood if she made that decision herself rather than someone else making it for her.

When I realized this was the last time they talked it hit me even harder 😭😭

This game ultimates shows you how grudges are never a good thing and people deserve second chances. Revenge may be something you get, but the cost of that can sometimes be heart breaking and life changing. Ellie not only lost her girlfriend, her child but she also lost her only connection with Joel, the guitar. That is the message the game is trying to put forth.

The only scene in this game that made me cry. I started bawling after he said "I'd do it all again". It felt like Ellie wasn't cutting him any slack. The Fireflies didn't give her a chance either, and they were fine with that. I don't even wanna fully get into my opinions on this game in a comment, but Joel was a great fuckin dad, man. As soon as Ellie became a mom, she should've completely understood why Joel did what he did, because we all know she'd do the same thing for her son.

I have a feeling that when a lot of players saw Joel out playing his guitar, they thought it was like a credits thing where he's in the afterlife lol could you imagine. Would actually be kinda beautiful

I bawled so hard in this scene. When I saw Joel holding the same mug you see in his house after he dies and realized that this was the night before, I absolutely lost it.

Some people started crying when Ellie left and we saw Joel crying, other people were crying while they were talking, I literally started crying when Joel appeared and with a broken voice I said "Joel...", every time I see this scene it breaks my heart.

Joels death hurt so bad, it felt like losing a parent

To that last guy, the reason Ellie is fixated upon that one action of Joel's in the hospital is not because she has a hero complex, but rather because she has a massive case of survivor's guilt. Look at it from her perspective: 1) She was supposed to die with Riley, but she didn't. She found no reason why it was her and not Riley. And even worse, she blames herself for Riley's death because Riley made it out, but came back for her. 2) She thinks that if Tess hadn't taken that job, she wouldn't have died. 3) She also feels that travelling with her got Henry and Sam killed. (By this point, she has already resigned it to herself that being with her means death for everyone, except Joel) 4) Ultimately, she reasoned to herself that she was kept alive for one reason only - the cure. And mentally she had already made the decision that that's how she's going to make sense of her life, even if she were to die.

...then Ellie wakes up late while Joel and Tommy are already on patrol.

The Last of Us Part 2 is the only game that's ever made me cry. I cried at the space museum scene where Ellie closes her eyes

Joel made peace with his demons at the beginning of the game that's why he accepted his death the way that he did i cried like a baby at the end of the game so Ellie had too accept her demons 😭😭😭

I watched the whole game from Jacksepticeye and damn... He's a professional. He admired every single detail that's been put into this game. He followed the story really well. I didn't want to watch PewDiePie play even though I love him because: He is more on the comedy side rather than the gameplay itself. Séan managed to be still hilarious and interesting to watch.

After beating the first one I understood that Joel saved Ellie because she became like a daughter to him, and after losing his real daughter in the first Last of Us, it made sense that Joel could not bare the thought of a somewhat similar situation happening again and I believe that took the place of rational thinking and he acted. Hands down the best game series I’ve ever played.

I have issues with the story and the decisions made, but this scene is great. It reminded me why I love the first game so much. It would be poetic that Ellie would one day meet someone who she loves like her own child and making a similar decision, making her come to the realization of what it feels like and finally being able to forgive him.

This game left me feeling so emotionally drained. When it ended I cried, then felt just numb the rest of the day. Seeing the beginning of a ray of hope that Joel and Ellie might repair their relationship, and knowing that the next time they see each other is while Ellie watches Joel beaten to death… just rough.

this explains why she spared abby... remembering the night she started to forgive joel... she might have thought abby needed saving at that moment more than herself needing revenge.

i don't really remember if that comes up later on but i love and hate the little moment where joel says "i'm a little embarrassed about what i had to trade to get the coffee" and ellie doesn't ask what he gave them. i'm sure she wondered what it was but she was too mad at joel to have playful small talk with him. she could always ask at a later time, or joel could mention it to her. except now she'll never know. she'll never get to ask, never learn these small, inconsequential things that mattered or didn't matter to joel. cause he's gone.

Waterworks got going for me when Joel says "I'd do it all over again." Parental love is on one hand selfish but on the other hand incredibly selfless. His bravery and authenticity at speaking his truth resonates to my core. It's something special to see these reactions.

When Ellie said that "her life would have mattered" and Joel replied that if he would get a 2nd chance he would do it all over again I halfway expected him to reply with "because your life matteres to me."

I remember this game all too well, during the flashback at the museum we found out my great grandma had a stroke and passed a week later so this game HIT HARD and seeing this scene about forgiveness and family. It just broke me, haven’t cried like that in a long time

I think Iberleezy kinda missed Ellie’s point in “my life would’ve fucking mattered”...her best friend and first love was bitten WITH her and Ellie had to watch her slowly turn into an infected and then, it doesn’t show it of course, but we can assume Ellie had to be the one to kill Riley too. Ellie has spent every day since that moment “waiting for her turn” to die as she likes to put it. So to be able to die for a cause that could save other people from that fate would’ve been important to her. She was already supposed to die when she was bitten anyway. I think she probably feels it’s the least she could do with her life, and THAT is why she’s pissed at Joel for taking that option away.

At that part I dind't cry, I just lay down while the credits and the music keep playing on the TV, and felt the emptness.

People give shit about Ellie going in revenge despite being a bitch to Joel for like 2 years but this scene makes you realise that she literally rebuilt the relationship with Joel the night right before it is ended permanently in front of her by Abbey.

Anybody else want them to do a prequel game set between the events of the prologue and the start of the first game? To see what Joel went through for the first twenty years?

Replaying part 1 it still just amazes me to see Joel sitting on his porch playin his guitar in peace. The man did so much evil and lost so much but still somehow found a way to have some kind of peace. That’s what makes me even more sad of how he goes out but just knowing he and Ellie were able to come into some kind of understanding and begin to forgive each other makes me feel some semblance of happiness.
