The young man who was portrayed in this episode, Ronald Flowers, was actually sexually assaulted by Jeffrey. When Ron woke up in the hospital, he was beaten up with ligature marks on his neck, and he discovered blonde hair in his underwear, which Jeffrey had put back on him the wrong way. When the police went to his grandma's house, he used the same story he did with Konerak - that they were in a consensual sexual relationship and Ron had just too much to drink. Ron has talked about what happened in the Mind of a Monster documentary.

@@rachgregory3892 Dahmer definitely used the gay card to his advantage because this was like the height of the HIV pandemic and it wasn't understood as well compared to today. People literally thought you could catch the disease by interacting with gays. He really was just left on his own for most of his life with his thoughts unchecked. Had he perhaps gone to therapy or seen a psychologist early in his life; have someone he can talk to about these "tendencies" or "feelings", he might've never gone down the path he did. He was just holding it all in his entire life and if you do that; either with stress, depression, etc, it can explode and make you spiral out of control. I agree with Dahmer (really don't like saying that) when he says that killers are born, HOWEVER, I do think that raising a kid badly or a kid having a shitty home life will aid in raising a serial killer. While bad parenting/home life isn't the root cause, it's definitely a catalyst. Unfortunately back then (and even still now), seeking mental help, especially as a man was put down and seen as being "gay" or "girly", etc; you'd always be told to "be a man" or "man up". It was the mentality of the times. It also didn't help that Dahmer was gay as well. Just another thing he couldn't really tell anyone about without having fear he would be ostracized further for that.

I admit it, Evan Peters is so damn scary on this. The way he mimics his voice, mannerisms / body movements, everything !! idk how they have done all the research that good but all the actors who played their roles, their voice, body languages, the cops, oh damn it ! it's all the same irL people they were portraying especially the court scenes. I've seen the actual court / trial room videos, and they all have the accurate portrayal as the Netflix's tv series Monster Dahmer. I'm so convinced of how Evan Peters made us believed that he was Jeffy D, his voice, mannerisms / body movements , seeing the actual Jeffy D's interviews available on every apps was so unbelievably accurate as how Evan Peters does on-screen, so eerily accurate. Emmy's gotta be blind if he don't win that award. This series is so fascinating.

In the psych ward after the first night they left me alone to wander around. The first night a therapist sits down and lets me cry while rubbing my back til I fall asleep. Every week a stern in personal Psychiatrist asks me if I'm still in danger psychologically as if just wandering around the ward was supposed to be medicinal. They had 'group counseling' which is not individualized at all and did nothing to fix my mental illness. Three weeks later im discharged out into the terrifying world with no follow up or therapy. I don't mind submitting to the medical system if they actually heal but I felt warehoused and nothing more. So I'm not surprised Dahmer never got necessary care in custody 😞

There’s definitely racism and homophobia on the part of law enforcement throughout this series but I’m still not sure if Jeff himself was a racist or discriminated against people by race or skin color etc. his victims really only had one thing in common and that was all were males. He targeted a wide range of males in various age groups and races. As for living in that area of Milwaukee I believe it just happened to be what he could afford which was not much. And living in that area is likely what contributed to most of his victims being black gay men because that was the predominant population among the clubs he would visit where he’d find victims

The levels of incompetency that law enforcement displayed are beyond my comprehension, And the fact one of them got promoted to Captain after is just astounding. 🤮 So I’d agree that those 2 cops were racist but they also didn’t care about the white people he killed, It’s like they were just so stupid and lazy they didn’t wanna do their jobs regardless. Trigger warning? So now I’m starting to think about that fact we only get so many details from Dahmer. The portrayal always seems him being ignorant of the fact that the racism from cops and such let him get away with it for so long, so in my head he was always just “lucky” for where he ended up and everyone around him being racist… but now I’m thinking of it more how a lot of criminals do deny certain aspects of their crimes. Like when someone murders someone but they deny r*ping them because they see that as below them or worse than their other crime. So maybe Dahmer did just play it all off as ignorant to that fact, but in reality did utilized it to get away with it. I didn’t know about the painting part either!

i think the human mind is more complexe than just "he was crazy". It is "nature vs nurture", are serial killers born that way or do they become that way, or is it a bit of both, is there a way to heal killers mind so they dont feel the urge, the compulsion to kill, can they be fix ?

The biggest issue with this show is the racial push. Dahmer himself, if I’m correct, was not racist. He went after people he deemed “beautiful” it’s why all the victims are very good looking. The homophobia was understandable especially with the AIDS epidemic occurring during this time but these cops and such especially in the 90s were not this racist. Maybe he got lucky and the one racist judge and multiple racist cops somehow allowed him to be free due to him being white but all the time? Idk. Peters does a great job and should be commended however.

Yes. Jeffrey himself wasn't racist, most of the victims are black because he lived in a black community. The cops were racist, had they not failed to act, the killings would've been stopped sooner.

just bc u don't know what racism is or have not experienced it does NOT mean that the situation was not racist it def was.....more of his victims were mINORITY which is why on the cops end YES THAT WAS RACIST bc they did NOT CARE....if his victims were mostly WHITE he def would have been caught.....also he did move in a neighborhood that was MAINLY BLK bc he knew NO ONE WOULD EVER THINK TWICE there....stop being so oblivious to clear social issues. There is no racial push but the facts that are facts and you're the same type of person who would swear racism is not a thing today. We need ppl like you OUT all shade- it was both racism and HOMOPHOBIA....u just dont like t see YOUR RACE in a BAD LIGHT they PUT THEMSELVES in jus say that

Racism did, and still does, play a huge role in the effectiveness of policing within various communities. Dont forget, he started in the 70's, and was caught not long before the Rodney King beating in LA. A refusal to acknowledge the role of racism in policing does not mean it isn't happening, and stats show that black and brown communities get less policing for victims and are far more likely to be arrested/convicted than white people doing the exact same crimes.

Well according to some one else Netflix left out a lot that they read in an article that Jeffrey was aware and using racism to his advantage as he uses the crazy black woman tactic on the woman trying to help the 14 yr old. they just left those parts of the conversation out
@hotgoomba

I think he definitely knew that people were checking less in under patrolled areas. The action itself was inherently racist whether Dahmer put much thought into it. Similar to the way he went into a gay neighborhood and weaponized the homophobia to get away with more / how serial killers target people like black and brown full service sex workers. More opportunity because of the racist institution. He knowingly and *intentionally* benefitted from institutionalized racism, so I don't think the question "was he racist" is that simple, nor do I think it's important lol That being said, he fetishized black men, so ya he was racist lmaooo

That shot of the bracelet on the severed arm. It's very brief and there's nothing like it in the rest of the series. Very unnerving. ALSO...that chocolate company, correctly identified BY NAME in the series, is still in business. Odd. There was a RUMOR that Wendy's contained worms and they almost went outta business. But Dahmer mixes the chocolate at a chocolatier where he ACTUALLY kept a severed head on premises, and nothin'.

The implication of there being no news stories of missing people is that everything is super-duper racist in early 90's. Yet there was lots of news stories of all the missing black kids in 1970's Georgia when Wayne William's was active. This is why the racism angle is pure bunk, because it doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

I don't think racism was the issue here. There was no evidence at this point that he had done anything malicious to this guy, other than his say so. The drug would've been out of his system by the time he talked to the detective, and hospitals didn't routinely check for drugs. On top of that, his grandmother corroborated what he said, whether she knew or not. You can't arrest someone just because someone else tells you they did something. And on that subject, I just wanna point out that, today, people get mad when officers arrest someone and search their car without cause or a warrant, or when they get a ticket or arrested for dangerous driving, but when the officer did give Dahmer a break, and let him go while he had the body in his car, y'all get mad that the officer was being kind. Bunch of fuckin hypocrites.

No, Dahmer was racist. At least subtly racist. It's too convenient that he mainly targeted people of colour, which he knew the police didn't give as much attention to, while also moving into a black neighbourhood, knowing the police wouldn't bother him there. Plus, they did episode 2 completely wrong. If you check out one the real stories from one of the women who was helping the 14-year-old boy. She said Dahmer called her "an angry black lady" as an excuse to get the police away quicker. Which worked because of the things I just listed. I think it's easier to think it wasn't targeted when you aren't the kind of person that would be. For example, we all think wild animals are scary because they can hurt us, but in the perspective of a wild animal, that's bs. To a wild animal, they're just living their life and hunting other mammals is necessary. To us, we're a potential meal. So, you can see how it would be weird. If a hyena moved into a neighbourhood filled with gazelles, mainly murdered gazelles, ate gazelles and knew nothing would be done about it because the police are also hyenas and then when the gazelle finally speaks up the hyena says that gazelles are too vulnerable and paranoid and overreact. And then you hear hyenas talk about how all these things come down to pure luck.
