Michael is upset the rest of the office aren't as excited about his birthday as he is!
From Season 2, Episode 19 "Michael's Birthday" - It's a difficult time for Kevin as he awaits his test results. All the staff rally round in support, although this does put a damper on Michael's self-thrown birthday party. So he takes the gang ice skating instead, but Jim and Pam slip away to find a present for Kevin.

Michael's need to be liked and revered by his staff, colleagues and seniors alike is childish & fundamentally pure at the same time. He could've easily announced the donuts treat as his own but instead waits for someone to walk in and casually says that someone bought donuts for his birthday to Stanley. I think this episode was really important to Michaels growth as a character because at first he is super pissed at kevin having skin cancer and at the end he is embracing kevin and pam even says it ended up being pretty good although that was because she was with him. So funny story. I worked at this camp for a few years. There was this one day where a bunch of us staff were invited to the CEO of the camps parent company for dinner. The CEO is a nice guy, but he’s former military, so he’s known as a very serious person who could sometimes be short with people. Anyway, the day we were invited happened to be my birthday. Before we went, I lost a bet and the punishment was to do the “Happy birthday/I thought we had the same birthday” thing to the CEO. Well when I did it his response was “No today is not my birthday.....Oh..... Well that’s stupid.” And he never wished me a happy birthday! I still cringe thinking about it.

I always thought that the "rash" that Michael from the pony was really that he got kicked by the pony, and it left welts on him. Even as a kid, Michael never understood what "crossing a line" meant.
