Fun fact: Morbius wasn't even supposed to be a super hero movie. It originally started out as a documentary and what we largely saw was just an average week for Jared Leto.
i love to imagine that the jared leto cult is just like the one in farcry5 and they just kill or brainwash everyone in the jared leto island that dont want to convert to the morbin cult
Believe it or not, vampire bats share their nightly hauls with members of the colony that either could not go out or were not as lucky as others. So along with the farm Milo and the Morb could have shared their nightly blood hauls every day and continue to be friends.
Just imagining them both, hanging upside down in a cattle barn, sheltering from the rain, vomiting blood into each other's mouths, as they use their free hands to morb each other gently. So romantic.
The part where Morbius said “It’s Morbin time” then morbed all over those guys was such a powerful and earned moment, so emotional and such a payoff, truly Morbius is one of the movies of all time
Milo's dancing was the best part of movie , for a guy who just got his legs in the right condition after so long must have been pretty jazzed. And dance was pretty rad 🤣
Vampire bats are just incredible animals and these movies usually just make a disservice to them. The little guys have heat sensing organs even through they're warm blooded themselves, have teeth that can cut you through a protection glove if you're not careful and are one of the few bats that can actually run and jump around. But Hollywood hears the name and goes "yeah let's make it like a tiny piranha monster that flies or shit. I fucking love piranha monsters"
“He tells the detectives he needs the synthetic blood because they wouldn’t like it when he’s hungry” Snickers commercial: ITS MORBBBBBBINNNNN TIMMMMME!!
I can explain why for the vampire bats besides rule of cool. Animals do have preferred blood types. If these bats primarily drink animal blood and are suitably satiated, they were probably more drawn by curiosity.
They’re have been small cases of Vampire bats actually drinking some human blood, but obviously those cases don’t have a quote on file saying “it’s morbin’ time”
Indeed, weirdly I don't get bitten by bloodsuckers here in Europe at all, they completely ignore me. But when I visited North America, apart from the fact the insects are twice the size, they were also very happy to morb me. Now I have the incredible strength of a middle-aged human, *and* two mosquitoes. Don't mess with me.
@@Naptosis you probably do get bitten in Europe and just don't notice. The conditions we associate with a Mozzie bite, itching, swelling, redness are just an allergic reaction to the saliva the female mozzie injects into your skin when she feeds. There are several things that can determine whether you will get that reaction but one of them is how much saliva get's into your skin. Larger Mozzies naturally inject more saliva due to their size but also as a mozzie feeds its constantly spitting saliva into your skin and larger mozzies feed for longer. Fun fact some people are deathly allergic to Mozzies and experience anaphylaxis as a result of being bitten. Okay that wasn't a fun fact, but here's one that actually is. The chemical composition of Mozzie saliva varies from population to population so if you get bit a lot by local mozzies your body will stop having the allergen effect as it gets used to the saliva being in your body. If out of the blue you notice all of a sudden you're getting bit by mozzies chances are that a new population of Mozzies have sprung up in your area and it's saliva differs enough from the others to trigger the immune response.
Morbius is easily one of the most important,world-changing movie ever made because it shows us that we have the power to kill companies by meming it to death making them think it's a good idea to further waste money on something that won't earn them any money at all. We may not be able to defeat corporates ourselves, but our memes can defeat them
For the Coma being applied to the patient during the stroke. This is actually an acceptable treatment if the patient is known to have numerous other clots. The coma also helps reduce brain damage, and gives a slightly longer period of time before brain injury hits more severe levels. You get a two for one deal, by slowing the heart, and decreasing BP, while also preserving as much brain tissue as possible. I would also like to add, as someone who was bribed into taking a Virology Degree program, that the use of viruses in Crispr, is the most suitable arrangement, given the intended purpose. There are viruses that target specific genes, and if we harness, that, we can end cancer, AIDS, and other deadly diseases.
@@grilledleeks6514 You know, your cynicism is hilarious, considering that private medicine has provided the majority of breakthroughs, while government funded medical research is the stuff they usually keep quiet, and away from the public.
Morbius could, 100%, have survived off of a pint of real blood per day. That is absolutely doable, he has all of the skills and contacts needed to get access to that, there is no need for any of this nonsense. The only issue would be proving that he hadn't killed the nurse, so catching and bringing Lucian in to the cops should have been a priority OR EVEN CONSIDERED!
Aye, it never made sense because him being a big name doctor. He could have kept him and his friend alive easily until they found a way to make better fake blood for them to drink.
I saw it in theaters two days ago and honestly it was as you say, dumb fun. They even managed to have a semi-likeable villain and my brother has been referencing Matt Smith moments since.
I mean it's not a good movie but it actually does do a few things well. I certainly wasn't bored when I saw it. I was slightly tipsy though, which helped
I watched this movie with my cousin a while ago and we were the only ones in the theater. Also she predicted literally everything. I’m convinced she was a ghost writer for the movie.
The cop was probably shaking the cat litter to see if there was any poop in there, which there wasn't. So with his great detective skills he deduced that she had took off and taken her cat with her, hence no cat poop.
Still pretty dumb The gal might have just changed the litter and went out and they would completely miss her thinking she was already gone while the cat was just hiding away from the intruders
Fun little fact... the moment i just even grab my cat's litterbox, both of them are there as they wanna sit in the new litter the moment it goes into the litterbox.... so yes, sum cats actually do come at the shaking of the litter :P (they also wanna sit in the old litter so i can't change it.... dumb beasts... :P )
@@edwardburns1986 There's no indication that this is the case though. With the absence of this knowledge, we have to assume that the humans of this world have no knowledge of anything supernatural.
@@osirisatot19 How so? Where in this movie does it show that Morbius exists in the same world as Venom? We simply can't assume that it's like the MCU and that they're all connected without some kind of clear connection.
@@eirmundgundnand9442 Iirc one of the detectives said "like in San Francisco" (or something along those lines), which is a refference to the events from Venom and V:LtbC And we already know for a fact that Police is aware of some kind of monster in San Framcisco, that was like 1 of the biggest plot points in V:LtbC. Eddie knew they were tracking him, and Mulligan constantly asked him about it. Also Carnage went around killing people without hiding, and wrecked a whole prison. Mutants were also something they knew about. It's pretty obvious that something like a "Vampire" wouldn't sound so crazy after those events Edit: Plus this is something that already happens in real life lmao xD If someone goes around killing people and have their blood drained, everyone is gonna call it a Vampire. It doesn't need to just be a real supernatural undead human , just the blood sucking will get you called a vampire
@@jvbon646 But the line about San Francisco is too obscure. For all we know, it was comment about the character's view on San Francisco and the people living there. Though it could also be a Venom reference, I just don't think that alone is proof enough. I wasn't talking about the attacks being vampire-like, but how quickly he accepted that a real life vampire, in the flesh, was the cause of the attacks. Which, no, isn't something that anyone in real life would be quick to accept no matter how vampire-like the crimes were
When he was shaking the litter box, he was looking for fresh, uh, excrement. It’s actually sorta a smart way to tell when someone left (provided they took their pet with them)
Marvel loves its synonyms, because Spider-Man: he may be Amazing to you, but to me, he’s Spectacular. Others may find him Sensational, but only Cephalopods find him to be Superior.
Its kinda hilarious that his solution is to rewrite genetic code when his issue is clotting. He honestly could have found a human with hemophilia to find the code that causes their coagulation factor to be decreased, or he could have tried injections or even synthesizing a pill for an anti-coagulant, which we already have. Like literally all animals who need their prey to bleed have natural anti-coagulant in their venom or saliva somehow. Leeches, bats, snakes and many bugs have it, why would he need to go to the extreme of genetic modification? The premise of Morbius makes no sense at all.
Leto insisted he stay in character between takes and would use crutches to walk around set. He ended up being so slow the director hired someone to push him around in a wheelchair to speed up Leto getting around so they could get more filming done
So rewatching this, I noticed young morbs is replacing a fuse with the spring. Now there is likely a good reason for the fuse to have blown, and shorting the contacts back together could possibly damage the blood machine beyond working order.
Anxiety attack? Turn on your videos and basically feel like I’m sitting next to a doctor which makes me calm down. Thanks for all the content you make.
I remember Jared Ledo (to continue method acting) ended up morbing all over the floor. This caused several others to morb. Which led to the mind blowing scene where Morbius says “it’s morbin time” truly a moment of genius
Unironic Morbius review. I actually really enjoyed the movie! If they want to do better, then they should have strayed from Marvel formula in one particular way. How? No antagonists. This did not need Milo playing 'villain' or anyone doing similar. If the whole film were experiments, perhaps even if time itself was metaphorically the villain due to being so fleeting in the scenario presented, it would be an astounding upgrade.
I honestly did like the movie too, it could have been better but most movies could in my opinion. I have been a comic book fan for a long long time now and i loved too see a character I have liked for a long time on a big screen.
Having Milo argue with the doctor about World of Warcraft factions is something that I can absolutely see happening given how.... just movie this movie is. Another great video, awesome work always love the uploads! 😁👍
considering how he seems to turn into mist, that he was almost blown off the roof when the cop was not, and riding the air current in front of the train... im going to make a guess that he becomes weightless becoming partially mist to seemingly fly.
Which makes no sense. In the comics, Morbius has hollow bones, but he gains the mist ability for a short time due to supernatural means. The hollowed out bones thing is already pushing it
The science is what brings me back every time! How else would I learn about rabies and the differences between HSV-1 and 2? Roanoke is the best morbfessor on youtube!
Love this channel and how he's actually using science to showcase how the madness of human animal gene splicing could be good in the future XD absolutely amazing
They only called it “plasma” in that old Spider Man cartoon. In the comics it’s pretty explicit that it’s blood he drinks, I mean there are plenty of panels of him just ripping dudes’ throats out and gulping down the yummy innards.
I like how Sony thought they had the talent needed to make a movie based off a C List Supervillain/hero.p (either that or they’re so desperate they’re scrambling for anything they can).
@@mindisfrozen. Yeah, that makes no sense. Do you know why even Fox went all in on Deadpool being rated R back a few years ago? It's because even they knew that a character like Deadpool only works if the film he is in is rated R because of his whole character. Apparently Sony never learned that lesson.
@@dragonbornexpress5650 Well the logic is, just like current MCU, they want to keep it PG-13 for crossovers. However Disney only plans on that because they want the majority of MCU movies on Disney+, which can't go over PG-13. So they do it to leave their options open for future crossovers, while destroying their product because the directors and writers can't release their original product. Just as bad as when the studio or producers try to shoehorn a character into a movie to help rush a big plot along. *Cough* Spiderman 3 with venom! *cough* (Would love to see the director's R-Rated cut of Venom)
I haven't heard a single person pronounce 'cadou' correctly. Am Romanian. Can tell. But I appreciate that you pronounce Dimitrescu as closely to our language as you can - I know it's weird to pronounce for foreigners!
Oh my flipping god, Some random player in a game I met kept on saying IT'S MORBIN' TIME and saying other random stuff and he was dancing and stuff. Coincedence? I THINK NOT. He also dressed up as dracula
I am honestly in the camp that Morbius isn't as bad as so many people claim, but's not a particularly good movie either. It's just sort of milktoast lame and kinda forgetable, but it amuses me that the studio honestly thought it would make a significant amount of money to rerelease it. I think they lost more money rereleasing it than if they just did nothing. This is an objectively good thing as it disincentivizes studios from embracing memes and pandering to support their movie than having genuine quality. And can we stop pretending that Jared Leto's method acting makes hima better actor? Mat Smith out acted him at every turn in this movie.
come along pond! I adore Matt Smith, he had the mantle after David Tennant and arguably succeeded. He's a brilliant actor, and quite underrated. I just wish he'd stop tarnishing himself by taking questionable and poorly written movies. He's a lot better than that. Also he's a really humble bloke, met him irl and he's more than happy to converse with you, not a complete egomaniac like most actors.
I got some entertainment out of this because I just imagined this was a universe where Matt Smith's Doctor Who finally snapped and became an evil Vampire man for some reason.
For me personally I tend to always enjoy the movie breakdowns but only ever stay for the science when it's something I'm interested in (usually the parasite movies). Might be why the breakdowns are watched so much more
My blood clots slightly faster than normal, and this video made me do more research about why that is. I know I inherited it from my mom, so it's either a result of my blood type or some other genetic reason. My sister and I need to drink a lot of water, but I don't always remember to do so and get mild headaches sometimes because of it. We're both otherwise pretty healthy. So, yeah. Thanks for the video!
Honestly, I’m here for the summary everytime and sometimes for the science. When we get into viruses, I’m not that interested but I watch every creature breakdown. Love these
There are a lot of sites out there covering recaps of movies. Yours is the first one I found that tries to cover the science. Please keep doing this. It is fascinating and the main reason I subscribed to your channel.
So he literally got this normal person he wanted to keep safe involved when he's a crazy superhuman who could get any of the things he needed himself? Wow
Also I think the litterbox was cus it didn't have dookie in it, but, like, I haven't seen the movie, so, ig I could be wrong, but cats def come to shaking litterboxes sumtime
While it is Marvel, I think it's... a stretch to say this is in any way related to the MCU. I can guarantee the people doing the MCU want nothing to do with this Sony movie.
Anyone thinking this movie is related to the MCU is simply and understandably confused. It’s not related to it, but Sony really wanted people to think it was
They purposefully lied in the trailers that Morbius would be part of the MCU because they specifically included Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes/Vulture in the marketing. I watch the movie, find out at the end Vulture was merely pulled from the MCU reality...so there's that.
@@bigdadybojangls9219 it's related to it, vulture from spiderman appeared, who cares if it's Sony, Disney, marvel, McDonald's, the story is now connected :) if you refuse to accept it it's on you, you mcu fans tend to accept only what you like
Hey roanoke, can you do some videos on the Typhon from Prey? I feel like it would be cool to theorycraft if something like them could actually exist out in the galaxy.
22:45, Funnily enough, Sony's Amazing Spiderman's version of the Lizard had a similar story and motive to Morbius, only for him it was relatively more justifiable that he'd consider implanting lizard genes into himself due to wanting to regrow his missing arm, with such advanced regeneration being completely foreign to the human genome.
when he goes from frail to killer, all I could think of was the meme asking people to stop praying for their granpa, as he's gotten too powerful and tasers don't work
If you want another virus related movie, Mayhem, I think from 2017, good movie imho. Watch it even if you don't wanna do a vid on it, whenever you wanna relax. :) Also tysm for the vids. love them and rewatch them all the time.
I am living with a rare blood disorder now! I am the only case at the moment. Sadness causes me to develops blood clots all over my body. They then caused a widowmaker heart attack . I now have 5 heart stents, I pacemaker/ defibrillator and I take 3 different blood thinners.....I didn't get any powers 😑. Thanks for the great video!
@@RoanokeGaming It is more than a little nice to be both entertained and learned something at the same time. And I don't know that there's one of your videos that I've listened to where I haven't learned something. And as a machinist who has a wife who makes vaccines for the poultry industry and has her master's in microbiology of some sort, (again I'm a machinist with an associate's. 😂) It's nice to occasionally surprise her at dinner with some fun fact that I learned from your video or a new vocabulary word. Although I will say that when I first learned about eukaryotes, that was a difficult thing to try to work into the conversation.
I have been able to catch flies out of the air... Then again, "training kittens" (aka, survival play) has a side effect of training my own reaction speeds, as kittens claws are like needles crossed with razor blades! Lol
funny thing is that i have actually seen both a bat and a venomous snake up close and personal in a non controlled environment. bat was in my basement, grabbed thick welding glove and took it outside. the snake was at 6th grade camp, kind of scary concerning when i mentioned the possibility of snakes at all near us the teachers all said there aren't any close to us. yet this snake was between 2 and 3 feet away from me. lol great security
Ngl I’m sorry for even suggesting this but I wonder if and how Roanoke would handle the mishmash Stephenie Meyer called “science” in the Twilight vampires, werewolves, and the half-human hybrids. Books or movies. Talk about a challenge 🙃
Thank you so much RG! I absolutely love watching these videos. Not only do you get to watch possibly the funniest movie reviews ever but you also get an amazing detailed science lesson at the end! Thanks again!
I am in the select few who actually enjoyed the movie, it was just fun to watch imo. I will say…I really wish there was a line, When Lucian was fighting Morbius, that said “My name is NOT Milo!” I was expecting him to be far more annoyed by his supposed best friend and adopted father not even knowing his actual name. I also wish they didn’t kill Lucian off, if there ever is a sequel he would have been a great villain.
I enjoy your videos because of both parts, summary and science, and I’m sure many others do too. I treat your videos like podcasts. I can turn off my brain and understand everything you explain
why did I half expect you to talk about this movie? Anyways, I really wanna see you talk about the Indominus Rex and Indoraptor from Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom respectively. Maybe even talk about the first Jurassic Park as well.
