External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was in Bangkok to attend the 9th India-Thailand Joint Commission meeting as both countries celebrate 75 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations. He defended India's crude oil imports from Russia and termed it the 'best deal' for the nation. Addressing the Indian community in Bangkok, he discussed the rise in energy prices across the world due to the Russia-Ukraine war and said,'We have been open about its interest. I have a nation with a per capita income of USD 2000, there are not people who can afford higher energy prices. It's my moral duty to ensure the best deal.'

He knows exactly what he speaks with no ambiguity, excellent display of political acumen with presence of mind, no beating around the bush - I wish he continues to be for another 2-3 terms. As usual the honourable minister is excellent in communicating the India 's view point to the Indian diaspora. As a participant expressed if the minister speakes the world listens. He is a greatest asset to our country. I have not heard of even opposition parties making damaging comments/ or criticize him. That is his credentials.

Development of today is linked to more consumption of natural resources and this is not a good policy. Our development should be keeping in mind conservation of resources so that future generations have a strong resource base and a clean and prosperous resource base. This means a rethink on the way we think of development per se.

Well , there are 2 side of coin. You save a few bucks on cheap oil but you lose your moral values and trust , friendship and business from some other countries. It is not a win win situation that politicians always claim and it is not just about cheap oil but its about India taking side with Russia on this invasion.

What we have achieved by importing oil from Russia, the fuel prices remain same or escalated. CAD is more than $ 30 billions per month since February 2022,( at the start of conflict between Russia and Ukraine) we have $ 620 billions as external debt of which $ 267 billions short term external debt again we have to pay back $ 79 billions in this September and October 2022.balance of about $ 188 billions by February and March 2023 and our Forex Reserve is declining every month. Overall total debt could eat away our exports and our Reserve by this December 2022 or January 2023 if CAD is not brought under control ,hence we are at tight corner and may face certain recession in the country in near future.

Naturally main indicators for recession being money spending for films by people start with entertainment sector which would show how our reality is.

Honorable Dr S Jaishankar who has Masters in political science and M.Phil. and PhD in international relations was an unknown figure for Indian masses but he has earned respect from all strata of population. Soft power is not by the gov - nope, not true, in fact on the contrary. Look at the leaders in soft power (the west) in detail, especially when they pivot from one ideology to another, and you'll see how the strings are pulled.

Soft power in its true sense can't be coercive or weaponized. It is actually the core strength of a culture that by virtue of its inherent goodness weaves it's magic and influence on others. The example you gave is of fourth fifth gen warfare and not soft power.
