This short video introduces the Gift Prints produced by Tokyo woodblock printmaker Dave Bull, and his Mokuhankan workshop.
It's actually a remake of a similar video produced a number of years ago, updated for the current generation of fans ... [Update: the price mentioned in this years-old video is no longer applicable ... sorry!]
The Gift Prints are available from this page:
mokuhankan.com...
Many similar prints can also be obtained through Dave's Mokuhankan publishing venture - look in the catalogue there for the items described as 'HangaClub':
mokuhankan.com/...
And, for reference, the company making the software that "Doesn't Suck" is BareBones; their website is here:

200 years... it`s difficult to grasp the idea for people today, you walk the streets of some cities and there is this building from 1780, the other from 1653, and so on. soon the idea of time takes another meaning, it`s mind boggling at first (at least for me a "new" world man). then i met my wife and she shows me her house, the family house in which they had lived for generations more than 200 years! now i understand deeply the concept and i strive to put it in my work (blacksmithing) but it`s getting harder and harder for me to explain as there`s so much money into the "garbage" industry. it`s so refreshing, so inspirational (sorry the cheesy moment) to see your work as place where all these concepts come alive. thank you very much for sharing, work and thoughts. regards. pete

Thanks for the comment … I have to be careful not to leave the impression that I’m trying to say “New = Bad; Old = Good”. I’m pretty happy living in the ‘present’ here, and am enjoying very much some of the objects that I use in my daily life. But it’s also a strong pleasure to be involved in work that suits so closely the ‘new ethics’ of low-energy profile, sustainability, re-cyclability, etc. etc. that are now so much needed in our society ...

I thank many of our items can be maintained forever, and are their own art. Surely not all appliance are, but many are worth repairing and maintaining forever. Please don't imply its acceptable to throw in the garbage, what breaks. Your prints can rip, and be masterfully reglued. Still inspiring all it did. Preserve your posessions, as you do yourself. Otherwise they are not worthy of your money. You buy not just art, appliance, beauty, but an obligation.

It's funny, I heard before that David was born in the UK, but I assumed that was just where his mother found herself at the time of his birth, I assumed his parents were Canadian, but twice in this video, and its the only time I've heard it from him, twice do I notice an English twang to his accent. For example, when he says 'the computer I'll use...'.
@seseragistudio
@seseragistudio 3 года назад
For the record, I was born in Yorkshire in 1951, but spent the next six years in London (where I was sent to a 'prep' school). We emigrated to Canada in 1957 (by steamship ...), and it would seem to me that my 'proper' British accent must have soon been eradicated by my subsequent 12 years spent in Canadian classrooms ...
@seantoner7392
@seantoner7392 3 года назад
@@seseragistudio Well I find your accent and voice quite mesmerising actually 😂, so no ill was done from it in my view. Is there any particular reason your family made the move to Canada? Also, I feel quite honoured that you responded to my comment, considering its just shy of 5 years late, I discovered this channel and your company at around Christmas time and I hugely appreciate your work and uploads.
@seseragistudio
@seseragistudio 3 года назад
RU-vid (erratically) sends me notifications when it feels some kind of interesting comment has been made on a past video, and this came in just as I was doing email this morning. As for the move, it's a very long story but the simple answer is that as US pop music began to take over the world in that post-war period, the old 'dance orchestras' were falling out of favour, so my Dad's employment situation was looking shaky (he was a sax player in one of the top groups of the time). He saw a chance to join a Canadian military band (they must have been advertising in London for musicians), and grabbed it.
@seantoner7392
@seantoner7392 3 года назад
@@seseragistudio I was expecting there to be a mundane answer to the question, but that's actually really interesting, your father must have been an extraordinary player if he earned a position in the military band of the 2nd biggest nation on Earth, especially as a foreigner. Anyway your comment revealed that its morning time in Japan, which in turn reminded me that its 2.00 at night here in Ireland, so I suppose i should be heading off to bed. Once again, T'is an honour to converse with you!!
@seseragistudio
@seseragistudio 3 года назад
Actually, it was the other way around. The new job in Canada was something that basically any musician could do (like a school band); it was his previous work that was 'top class'. Back in the day, that orchestra (the Oscar Rabin Orchestra) was famous, travelling all over the country, doing live radio shows every week, and drawing big crowds to their events. Girls lined up at the front of the dance floor to get a good view of the 'stars'. My mother tells a story of holding me in the hospital (he was off touring with them) and listening to a BBC broadcast of the band together with some of the nurses. And there was a 'shoutout' ... something like, "One of the members of the band is passing out cigars this evening. Baritone sax player Roy Bull became a father earlier today! Congratulations to him, wife Betty, and young David ..." etc. etc. So it seems that I got my first 'brush with fame' when not even a day old ... :-)

Your voice is deeply suiting and considering my self as an ASMR connoisseur I can tell that no matter how hard and far (or should I say low) other people may attempt to simulate a ASMR experience nothing and I mean nothing can come even remotely close to the real thing. What I think can be traced in your voice and words is those deep emotions of love and appreciation towards your work, your craft and the fruits of your effort. That deep care of the things you made, the way you look and handle them. That is love in one of it's purest form and it can be traced in your voice. Thank you sincerely for the content you produce.
