Cole you might want to cut a channel up to your dock after the bottom of the lake is dry. Also build some structure for future use after the lake is filled again. Get a good range finder and measure everything in the lake and chart it for future reference points. Chart where every piece of structure in the pond will be where a fish can hide. Good luck guys! Love seeing your family together even if it is a sad time. As a father of eight I am always happy to see a family that is normal and healthy. Love seeing Cyprus learning to cast and baby summer sitting up for the first time. My wife and I watch your channel all the time along with our two youngest daughters, we are always happy and excited to see you guys fishing and having fun together. Back in the 1950's Southern Illinois was experiencing extreme drouth. Our lake dried up and many people in the area hauled some of the dirt from the bottom of the lake. They spread the soil on the gardens in the area. We raised our garden area about two feet and was very surprised with the quality of the garden production for many years. You guys may want to take advantage of the opportunity to build the quality of your garden and flower beds. All it is going to cost you is time and energy.....

4:21 as a little kid I remember going out with my dad to feed the cows I slipped off and climbed a little tree and ate some persimmons that weren't quite 'ready'.... I got sick as a BIG dog... we came home and the house was full of the aroma of mom cooking homemade chicken and dumplings... fast-forward....60yrs later, I still can't stand the thought of persimmons...or chicken and dumplings.😜😜

I caught a lot of fish from that lake in 1967, 1968 and 1969 until my job at Little Rock AFB. I was transferred to Kelly AFB San Antonio, Texas. I also enjoyed fishing for trout on Little Red River. Bobby Allen

I'm saddened to see the lake disappearing. Those were healthy fish. That lake is just gorgeous! I just can't see how they can make it better. I live in Jacksonville, FL. I have a lot of small lakes to fish from my kayak. Your lake reminds me of Lake Anacoco, LA. I used to drive from New Orleans (my hometown) to fish. I hope it comes back with a vengeance! Yeah that's so sad I remember fishing lake Conway 60 years ago with my uncle and I've fished it several times since then and there's a lot of good memories for many people on that lake and that lake was the first time I ever fished and I've been hooked ever since😂😢

We drive by there a couple times a year and when we recently saw it we were thinking that it was just caused from drought conditions!! Wow! Didn't know they were draining to revamp it.

Jay and Cole I do understand your pain and concern about your home lake. Yes to see so much wildlife and the environment being destroyed because of some man-made vision or provision hurts. Like you, I enjoy nature, fishing, and the beauty of God's creation. Hey be encouraged and it's people like you and your loving wife that will always remind us of what we have.

Before the lake gets too low, you should catch a good bit of shad and live bait fish for bass with them. Could even use a few gizzard shad to use as cutbait and freeze a few bags for your next river adventure.

Okay! Let's make some lemonade out of this lemon of a situation. I've seen some lake draw downs in my past. When the fish get trapped, the egrets and herons will serve to make some fabulous video footage. Also, when dry enough, you can walk to the remaining pools and scoop fish with a net. I know you have lived on the lake all your life and know it well but there is an opportunity to look at the structure, drop offs or other unique features around the lake. Make note of them on a map for when the water returns. When dry, you may be able to take a 4 wheeler out there. I really liked the footage of the egrets landing in the cypress trees. As fast as the water is dropping and as dry as it has been, I would think and hope it will not take 5 years to accomplish what AGFC has in mind. As much as you guys like fish, it might be worth investing in another freezer to get a nice supply of bass filets while the getting is good. God bless you and your family!

It’s so sad to see the lake so low. All the plants, fish, etc that will be lost it’s truly sad to see. So much time, adventures that will not be happening at your backyard lake. Just hope that they will be refilling the lake sooner than predicted and the home lake adventures will return.

It's so hot. I'm ready for fall. I'm just a bit north of you, about an hour. I'm sorry about the lake. I drove down I40 last week and was so saddened by the look of it.

What is happening on upper end end. The inflow. I love you guys. Nice fishing in a fish bowl. Also this like a once in a lifetime thing you are getting to see. I am in Alabama. You can track out spots for future fishing In Alabama our lakes come to full level in the spring and lower pool in fall. Lake Harris and lake Martin. New adventures.

It's crazy what is going on there with them draining out that lake and I can't believe nobody is coming forward to fight to keep the land to its original condition.. I feel so bad for your family having to go through this..

Hey Cole, perhaps you should take the opportunity when the water is gone to try and clear out as much of the debris that snags, and maybe look for lost lures and tackle that the lake has claimed over the years.

When they have finished dropping the lake you'll have the opportunity to choose what you want growing out there ;)

Mmm persimmons are soo good! My dog was obsessed with them too! Every time i went outside my dog would run to the orchard to get me to get her one! Her face would be so orange afterwards.

Persimmons are like a mix of a guava and pair with the texture of a over ripe banana also if you knew someone with a pond or new pond you could catch some good size fish and stock a pond

I would have to try to save some of those fish and take them to another lake or pond.

Have to do a lure hunt after it's low and dry enough. If it's going to be 5 years before they refill it gives plenty of time for dock building and other water structure repairs.

One of my favorite memories of my niece when she was a baby ( (10 months old) happened on Christmas Eve at this point she was a furniture walker and could stand for quite a while if she had someone to hold onto, in my family it's tradition for the youngest person present to hand out the gifts, if they are able. In this instance that was my sister, ( my nieces mother) my niece had been standing next to me clutching my pants leg for dear life, when my sister grabbed a large package wrapped in silver foil wrapping with a large red bow, my nieces eyes caught it, and fascinated, let go of me, and made about 6 percent steps, before losing her balance, and landing in my sister's lap, my sister completely missed seeing her daughter's first steps, while I was happily shouting did you see that? My sister's comment was, " what did you just do? " while all present were laughing their heads off. From that point on the was the fastest toddler I ever saw.

In The South Lakes Are Drained All The Time! The Cold Winter Will Kill The Vegetation Way Back! Once The Lake Is Refilled And Restocked It Will Be A Paradise Again!

Are they letting yall dredge the lake out in the back of your property? Digging it out making a deep hole and cleaning it up could help your area in the end and the hole may gather water so you'll have a pond before the lake is filled again.

I remember back in 2006 the lake was drained. I loved the crappie fishing at Lawrence landing where the old boat docks you to be.

Catch all the shad you can and press theoil from them.

As another wildlife biologist, I am sure you two thought of this already, but your lake being drained will provide you a great opportunity to share with your kids and subscribers how the ecology changes over the next 5 years and then again as it refills. I am sure the birding will be interesting to say the least. Best wishes !

Dam repair that's Could take a long time . Ours took about 4 years . for the last few years fishing has been bad. But the level has been up for a year or so.
